The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for the position of On-Call Library Aide I/II

This application is for non-benefited, part-time employment only. The candidate will fill staffing vacancies as needed and will be required to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Schedule may vary and incumbent must be available to work flexible hours.

Ideal Candidate

The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for a part-time, 18 hours per week Library Aide.  Must be available to work a schedule that includes combination of day, evening and weekend shifts.  Must be able to work one evening and one weekend day per week. 

The Library Aide performs various routine and repetitive tasks relating to the maintenance of the library collection. Duties include shelving, sorting, filing and shifting of books, periodicals and other library materials. Maintains library reading rooms, stacks and other areas in clean order. Library Aides may process materials returned from circulation, including checking in the daily delivery on the computer system and moving boxes of books and other materials. May be asked to back up Circulation staff and assist in a variety of special projects and services as needed. Library Aides work in all divisions of the Library, including Circulation, Children's, Technical Services, Reference and the Easton Branch.

ABILITY TO:

Communicate and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees and library users of all ages; work under pressure of heavy service demands; be flexible in work scheduling; work as part of a team; remain calm when dealing with difficult situations and difficult people, handling situations with tact and firmness. Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift books or other materials weighing up to 40 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; push a fully loaded book truck; climb stairs. Hear and see well enough to perform the above duties.

SALARY & BENEFITS:

The salary range for this position is $18.60-$25.14 per hour. This position is a temporary, part-time position and part of   Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked and is available after 90 days of employment. The maximum use of paid sick leave is 40 hours in a one-year period.  There is no cash value associated with benefit. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System.

THE POSITIONS

The following positions are flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II or Lead Librarian level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

• Youth Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team-oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to coordinate the library’s outreach and deliver innovative programs and services for children and families at the Downtown Library and throughout the community.
• Teen Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to deliver innovative programs and services for teens with diverse backgrounds and abilities and to coordinate the library’s outreach to middle/high schools and throughout the community. 
• Adult Services - Librarian I, II, Lead: Seeking full-time Librarians (38-hours per week) with expertise in cataloging, collection development, programming for adults, outreach and exceptional customer service.

This position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II level, depending on the candidate’s experience.

• Neighborhood Services  - Librarian I/II:  This position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II level, depending on the candidate’s experience.  A dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian I/II to deliver innovative services and programs for children, families and teens, at the family friendly Redwood  Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library.

The Air District is recruiting for the position of Assistant Counsel I/II in the Legal Division. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, exempt, management position.

About the Position
The Bay Area Air District is seeking an experienced enforcement attorney to join our legal team as Assistant Counsel in the Office of General Counsel. The Air District has recently expanded its enforcement focus, assessing over $110 million in penalties last year aimed at holding violators accountable and deterring future non-compliance. We invest the penalty funds collected back into the communities impacted by the violations under a groundbreaking equity-focused community benefit policy adopted by our Board of Directors in 2024. We are looking to expand our team with a creative and dynamic civil prosecutor with a passion for achieving justice for the Bay Area communities most impacted by air pollution. 

This position will focus primarily on enforcement of air quality violations, including cases seeking civil penalties and/or injunctive relief before the Air District's administrative Hearing Board and in Superior Court. Experience prosecuting or defending such cases under air quality or other environmental laws is highly desirable, although an experienced civil prosecutor with a background in other similar enforcement contexts would also be ideal for this position. 

In addition to enforcement work, the position will also provide legal advice, counseling and representation on related legal issues arising under local, state and federal air pollution laws and regulations, including air quality permitting, development of new regulations, California Environmental Quality Act issues, administrative law issues, and civil rights compliance, among others. 

Many of the most pressing air quality issues the Bay Area faces relate to disproportionate air pollution burdens in historically disadvantaged communities, so experience and familiarity with environmental justice issues is highly desirable.

About the Division
The Legal Division provides a wide array of legal services to support the entire Air District, including handling enforcement cases; advising on the California Environmental Quality Act, AB617 Community Emission Reduction Plans, contracts, grants, and finance matters; developing regulatory language; supporting the permitting program; reviewing records under the Public Records Act; and staying abreast of current legal developments in air quality throughout California and nationwide. The Division utilizes a variety of tools to resolve enforcement actions, such as abatement orders, civil enforcement, and coordinating with other enforcement agencies, like local district attorneys or the state Attorney General. For cases in environmental justice communities, Air District staff can directly engage with community members when determining the appropriate legal remedies, including high enough penalties to reach deterrence-based outcomes and ensure the community benefits from the related funds.

Minimum Qualifications

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and skills is:

Assistant Counsel I: Equivalent to graduation from a college or university plus an appropriate law degree and two years of experience as an attorney engaged in the practice of civil law with a public agency, preferably involving environmental law. Experience in litigation and negotiation is desirable.

Assistant Counsel II: In addition to the above, two additional years of experience as an attorney engaged in the practice of environmental law with a public agency in the State of California.

Other Requirements

Must be a member in good standing of the State Bar of California.

San Mateo County Parks (SMCP) is currently seeking a full-time extra help Bilingual Community Engagement Intern II.

This position would be based out of Flood and Friendship County Parks and primarily working with the communities surrounding these parks. 

Friendship County Park is located in North Fair Oaks, an unincorporated area of Redwood City. Through community collaboration, the small urban park was developed to provide outdoor recreation facilities and space to promote community gardening. The park is situated on San Francisco Public Utility Commission land and is managed by SMCP. Less than an acre in size, the park features 30 community garden planters, a playground, picnic tables and more. Plot use is through an agreement with SMCP and requires regular participation in meetings. 

Flood County Park is a 21-acre park located in Menlo Park. It is primarily used as a location for family and group picnicking, playground use, and walking by the local community. The park has recently opened a new multi-use sports field, tennis/pickleball court, pump track and more! 

An intern at these locations would work on improving the interpretive elements of each park and provide programming and outreach opportunities for the local communities.

The Bilingual Community Engagement intern will report to Flood Park and be able to drive to Friendship Park and other park locations as needed. The intern will be supervised by the Interpretive Division Park Staff. 

Tentative schedule for this position (subject to change):

• Tuesday – Saturday: 8 hours each day
• 1 – 2 In person workdays
• 2 Virtual workdays (work from home)
• 1 Day for Events/Programming

Examples Of Duties:

A Bilingual Community Engagement Intern would be responsible for:

1. Management of Friendship Park Community Garden, including but not limited to:
   1. Managing garden plot availability and agreements
   2. Being the primary point of contact for Community Garden participants; maintaining regular communications by County phone, text, and email
   3. Working alongside gardeners to identify and address any needs or challenges in maintaining garden beds
   4. Facilitating monthly on-site educational opportunities for gardeners with staff from San Mateo County Health, Sustainability Department, and community partners
   5. Managing on-site garden tools and supplies; identify additional supplies that may be required
2. Community Program Coordination and Outreach, including but not limited to: 
   1. Coordinating and leading programs with Community Based Organizations and Partner Organizations within the community near Friendship and Flood Parks (i.e. Libraries, Schools)
   2. Leading interpretive programs at Friendship and Flood Parks 
   3. Tabling at local community events, such as Farmer’s Markets
   4. Providing translation when needed at programs and events throughout SMCP
   5. Assisting Interpretive Division with educational outreach throughout SMCP
   6. Creating flyers and social media posts to promote SMCP

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will: 

• Have strong interpersonal skills and possess the ability to effectively communicate in English and Spanish with diverse community members and San Mateo County staff to support gardeners. 
• Be an enthusiastic, outgoing, positive, and energetic person who can work collaboratively or independently with little to no supervision. 
• Be open to learning new skills, be flexible with various work projects, and be able to follow directions. 

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old
• Bilingual in Spanish required
• Experience in food growing and garden management desired
• Knowledge of and ability to teach gardening concepts desired
• Ability to engage with individuals of many demographics and histories – youth, seniors, immigrants, economically diverse
• Strong planning and organizational skills with ability to plan programs and events and organize participants and volunteers
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License and transportation available to commute to park sites throughout San Mateo County

This is a full-time position requiring weekend work. 

NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

The Superior Court of California, County of San Mateo seeks highly qualified candidates for the position of Deputy Court Executive Officer.

As a key member of the executive management team, the Deputy Court Executive Officer will provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Court Executive Officer/Clerk/Jury Commissioner.  The Deputy Court Executive (DCEO) will participate in strategic planning and will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the operations, support, and administration divisions of the Court.  This will include directing all criminal, family law, civil, juvenile, small claims, traffic, and probate clerk office functions.

The DCEO will also oversee all staffing and personnel functions including recruitment, retention, training and development, and disciplinary action.  The DCEO will research and review new technology systems that could assist the Court in meeting workload requirements and will oversee the implementation of new systems and, when necessary, the modification of existing systems.  In addition, the DCEO will write, review, monitor, and manage contracts with vendors providing services and materials.

Significant to the role, the DCEO will analyze new legislation and the legislation’s impact on the Court, will communicate with the executive team about new legislative or statutory requirements needed to successfully operate the court, and will establish procedures to conform to new laws.

In addition to internal operations, the DCEO will serve as liaison with the court, County departments, agencies, and the public, and will work with other criminal justice agencies to implement new or mandated programs.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide highly responsible administrative and management assistance to the Court Executive Officer/Clerk and Jury Commissioner in planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the functions and activities of the operations and/or support divisions of the Court.
• Provide strong leadership as part of the Court’s Executive Team, which also consists of the CEO, Information Technology Director, Human Resources Director, Senior Managing Attorney, and Finance Director.
• Direct, supervise, and guide Court managers and supervisors or staff of a major division by establishing goals, policies, and performance standards, conducting periodic evaluations for the staff members' performance, and counseling staff members regarding their performance and career development consistent with the departmental mission and expectations.
• Work with judges, attorneys, internal staff, and external departments to define and coordinate a variety of activities such as forecasting trial court needs, arranging for jurors, and assigning visiting judges.
• Consult with and advise other County staff and the public regarding Court policy issues and participate in the development of standards and programs relating to these policies.
• Consult and cooperate with other agencies and departments on all aspects of the Court’s operations, discuss problems and develop alternatives and strategies for dealing with those problems, and assist in implementation of solutions.
• Develop effective statistical and recordkeeping systems, analyze new laws and requirements that may impact these systems, and revise systems as needed.
• Direct and counsel managers, supervisors or staff in planning, resource allocation, personnel actions, budgeting, and record systems needed to meet the Court’s responsibilities.
• Assist in the preparation and administration of the Court budget.
• Perform a variety of special assignments and prepare complex analytical and statistical reports in all areas of Court management, as assigned.
• Perform any additional court administration or operations-related duties and tasks as assigned by the Court Executive Officer.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in judicial, public, or business administration or a closely related field, or a graduate degree in these same fields; however, additional qualifying experience as described below and relevant course work outside of degree programs may substitute for the required education on a year-to-year basis.
• Experience: Seven years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of duties related to management in, preferably but not limited to, a court setting including at least one full year of progressively responsible experience in a senior level administrative, executive, or management position.

Knowledge of:

• All aspects of Court Administration including appropriate methods, procedures, and technical expertise.
• Pertinent state and federal laws and regulations regarding Court management.
• Organizational, administrative, and management principles and practices.
• Conflict resolution, training and development, and mentoring for management team direct reports as well as organizational development.
• Supervisory techniques, resource allocation, planning and budgeting.
• Budget principles and procedures.
• Change management and implementation of process refinement, improvement, and documentation.
• Statistical analysis and presentation of data-driven decision making.
• Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.

Skill/Ability to:

• Direct and coordinate all aspects of the Court’s administration.

SSFUSD is seeking one (1) Bond Construction Project Manager to serve in the Bond Office. This is a temporary classified management position for the South San Francisco Unified School District Bond Program. This position is intended to last only for the duration of the Measure T Bond Program.

DEFINITION

Under supervision, performs electrical, preventive and corrective maintenance, modifications of existing equipment and the installation of new electrical equipment used within the wastewater treatment plant, the wastewater lift stations and the potable water pump stations and equipment; on 24-hour emergency call for electrical repairs; and performs other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Installs, repairs, maintains or replaces electrical equipment including but not limited to, motor control centers, generators, switchgear panels, variable frequency drives, pump controllers, large distribution breakers, motors of various sizes and voltages, ground fault systems, magnetic and solid state starters, building lighting and power, HVAC equipment, reduced voltage transformers, SCADA control systems, fused disconnects, and various size and types of lighting. Shall review plans and specifications, may inspect electrical components to be installed during new construction, equipment replacement or modification. Shall maintain equipment records on the computerized maintenance system and update drawings as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Electrical tools including but not limited to, basic hand and power tools, electric cable puller (mule), conduit benders (both hand and hydraulic), MEGGER, phase rotation meter, VOM meter, hydraulic knock-out tool, hand and power threading equipment, accepted safety practices and standards related to both personnel practices and proper handling and installation of equipment and systems. National Electrical Code; installation, operation and maintenance of motor control centers, power generation equipment, pumping control equipment with all types of motors.

Ability to: Read and interpret electrical diagrams, plans and electrical codes. Instruct others in preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment and of safe work practices.  Work independently and with non-skilled electrical personnel.  Interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Physical Requirements:  Moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion required including crawling, stair climbing, lifting, carrying and/or handling up to 50 pounds for 30 minutes.  Work in confined areas and wear protective garments.  May work in conditions which require exposure to noise, noxious odors, gases and contact with wastewater.

Experience: Four years of journey-level electrical trade experience involving work performed in conformance with standard codes and both single and three phase equipment.  Experience with water or wastewater utility systems desirable.

Education:  Graduation from high school, or equivalent.  Continuing education in related subjects is desirable.

License:  Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, publicizes, coordinates, and administers community and recreation services for various age groups; organizes and conducts special events.

Recreation Coordinator positions will be assigned to one or more of the following areas: administration; aquatics; contract classes, community rentals and facilities; senior services; Meals On Wheels, city-wide special events; youth and teen services, and community outreach.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This classification provides support to the City’s diverse range of recreation and community service programs.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Supervisor in that the latter is a full supervisory classification that has broader responsibility for a wider range of programs.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and oversees assigned staff, contractors, and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS

• Plans, coordinates, evaluates, organizes, and implements diversified recreation services and special events of assigned area(s).
• Ensures compliance of standards and regulations for assigned programs, as required by Agency, Contracts, County, State, etc.
• Recommends alternatives for improving services as needed, considering factors such as cost/benefit and marketing analysis, availability of resources, safety of personnel and effects on operations and level of service; recommends or implements improvements as directed.
• Keeps accurate records, maintains program budgets, completes city paperwork and other administrative tasks.
• Communicates with a variety of agencies, vendors, community groups, clients, governmental and members of the public in a courteous and professional manner.
• Responds and resolves inquiries and concerns from the public and escalates inquiries as needed.
• Schedules and assigns work,
• Trains, and instructs assigned volunteers.
• Recruits, orients, evaluates, and recognizes contractors, and volunteers.
• Initiates and collaborates to develop a range of marketing materials for various purposes, including programs, events, informational content, and educational initiatives.

• Serves as a Disaster Service Worker, as required.
• Coordinate the payroll process with any and all part time staff that are signed to them, including comparing schedules to timecards, entering timecard information into a citywide timecard and invoice system, monitoring staff hours, and auditing timecards for mistakes Senior Services Programs:
• Oversees the organization of all senior programs, encompassing drop-in activities, contracted classes, and social gatherings. Provides support in overseeing the Seniors In Action Council, including the organization of events, programs, and meetings.
• Perform related duties as needed.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:

Experience:

One year of experience in recreation and community services.

Experience coordinating and facilitating programs and special events is desirable.

Training:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, human services or a closely related field.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Must possess American Red Cross First Aid certificate and CPR Adult, Child, and Infant CPR within six months of appointment.

When assigned to Aquatics, must possess American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification including First Aid and CPR at time of appointment. Title 22 Certification required within one year of appointment.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.
