The Department

The City of Brisbane is currently recruiting for an Engineering Technician. Under direction of the Deputy Director Public Works, this position will focus on regulatory and utilities projects. Class Characteristics

Engineering Assistant is a classification of employee that provides technical support and assistance in production, reviewing, and processing of various civil engineering plans, permits, specifications and technical reports; that generates design drawings using CAD and GIS programs; and that performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Example of Duties: (Illustrative Only)

• Learns to and prepares basic designs, specifications, plans, estimates and reports for the development and modification of City infrastructure, including streets, curbs, gutters, underground lines, and various facilities and appurtenances.
• Reviews private development plans submitted by developers, land owners and engineers for adequacy of application and conformance to City standard plans and specifications.
• Participates in the advertising and bid processes for capital projects.
• Provides contract administration support for various public works projects; ensures contractor compliance with contract documents, time and budget estimates.
• Performs precise work and prepares accurate reports of moderate complexity.
• Assists developers, consultants, contractors and the public by providing engineering information and assisting, interpreting and complying with City policy and construction requirements; participates in conferences with engineers, developers and the general public on engineering problems, inquiries or complaints.
• May assist with State and Federal drinking water, sanitary and storm water permit compliance.

The Department

THE POSITION

• This position will work specifically in the Economic Development Division.
• Approximately 15 hours per week, with flexibility depending on outside commitments.
• Availability to support some upcoming events scheduled during occasional weekday late afternoons or evenings.
• The duration of this position is for six months from the date of hire, with the ability to extend based on performance.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Assists the Division with promotions, and marketing programs that support local businesses.
• Assists the Division with City communications, including email campaigns, social media, and flyer distribution.
• Supports the Division with upcoming events hosted by the City and its economic development partners. Upcoming events include, but are not limited to, the Biotech and Beyond Speaker Series, business workshops both in-person and virtual, community events, and night markets. Support may include event planning, outreach, logistics, and day of planning and support, as needed.
• Assists the Division with implementation of some of Skyline College’s Accelerate Fellowship Program past projects that support downtown revitalization, and business support initiatives.
• Assists the Division with planning event logistics including budgets, timelines, and staffing plans. This also includes onsite coordination of events, including set-up, and clean-up.
• The Economic Development Intern may also support occasional follow up reports needed to show performance metrics from events implemented by the Division.
• General administrative support, as needed.
• This position may occasionally work at either City Hall (400 Grand Avenue) or the Economic Advancement Center (366 Grand Avenue) both in South San Francisco. Events and meetings coordinated by the Division take place all within the City of South San Francisco.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• Experience in strength and conditioning, group instruction, and one-on-one training is highly desirable.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Pacifica is recruiting for a Public Works Superintendent within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Field Services Manager, the incumbents will be responsible for the field services of the Public Works Department. They will plan, organize, and direct the work of field personnel and perform related work as required. The incumbents will be assigned to oversee various subdivisions such as Streets, Streams, Storm Drains, Street Lighting, and Motor Pool programs.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining and repairing the City’s infrastructure and wastewater treatment operations in an efficient and cost-effective manner while providing a high level of customer service and a safe work environment for city employees. The Department maintains parks, playing fields and medians and keeps streets and trails clean and well-maintained. The Department also coordinates the tree program, cleans beaches and coordinates the City Beautification program.

The Public Works Department is organized into three divisions including Wastewater Treatment Operations, Field Services and Engineering. The Wastewater Treatment Operations includes the operation of the Calera Creek water treatment plant and management of the collection system. Field Services oversees the maintenance of city streets, parks, trees, vehicles and public facilities. The Engineering Division manages public infrastructure projects, transportation planning and maintenance and repair of the City’s infrastructure. The Public Works Department is supported by 56 full-time staff and an annual operating budget of $4.6 million, along with a FY2023-2028 CIP appropriation of $ 8.6 million.

DEFINITION

Receives direction from the Field Services Manager or designee. Exercises general supervision over supervisory, professional, technical and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.

What You’ll Do 

The Communications Manager will hone and execute the City of San Mateo’s communication strategy, which will include key actions to enhance community engagement and participation, increase community awareness about City activities and initiatives, foster cross-departmental coordination and unity, standardize media response procedures, improve the website user experience, and standardize training and onboarding for new communications staff.  You will work with our internal team to ensure current, high-quality communications products are available. The Department

The City Clerk’s Office administers the democratic process such as elections, access to records, and all legislative actions, ensuring transparency to the public. The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for acting as a compliance officer for federal, state, and local statues including the Political Reform Act, the Brown Act, and the Public Records Act.

The City Clerk serves as a steward of the democratic process and is a liaison between the City Council and members of the public. Under general direction, the Deputy City Clerk is responsible for providing support to the City Clerk and Assistant City Clerk. This includes but is not limited to records management, public records requests, attendance at Council and/or Standing Committee meetings, preparing and editing minutes, and assisting with special projects. With responsibility for legal noticing, advertising, and calendaring public hearings.
