Qualifications

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced individuals for the position of Cook I/II.

There are multiple vacancies in the Sheriff's Office-Food Service Unit, located inside Maple Street Correctional Facility in Redwood City, CA.

 

Responsibilities of a Cook include, but are not limited to, preparing and serving a variety of dishes in large quantities; checking portioning and garnishing of food, and ensuring that it is served correctly and according to instructions; operating and cleaning a variety of industrial food service equipment; calculating ingredients needed; receiving and storing food; training new cooks; mentoring students and/or interns; supervising the work of and working alongside incarcerated persons (IP), assisting with menu planning and recipe development; and keeping all areas clean within the food services operations. 

 

An ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following: ServSafe Food Manager certification, School Nutrition Specialist certification, or Culinary Certification. The candidate will also have the ability to read and follow standardized recipes, have two or more years of experience as a Cook in the institutional or restaurant industry, and be able to work as part of a team in a large scale fast paced kitchen environment. 

 

Additional requirements:

• Possession of ServSafe Food Manager certification or Food Protection Manager Certification is required. If the selected candidates do not possess this certification upon hire, they must obtain it within six (6) months of employment.
• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license. Experience driving a delivery truck is preferred but not required.

 

Candidates chosen for these positions must successfully pass a background investigation in order to work in a locked facility around incarcerated persons. Felony and misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

Experience and Education:

Skill/Ability to: 

• Prepare and serve large quantities of food; read and accurately follow recipes and menus; work rapidly under pressure; work cooperatively with others; and direct the work of assistants.
   

Physical Requirements: 

• Must be physically able to lift, carry or push materials, supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and walk or stand for long periods of time.
   

Security Clearance: 

• Positions working in a correctional facility require that the applicant obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
   

Other requirements: 

• Majority of positions require employees to work weekends, holidays, evenings or other shifts and be on-call.

The County of San Mateo's Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory, which is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board in both Testing and Calibration, is seeking to fill a Criminalist I/II position within its Controlled Substances and Toxicology Sections, which includes participation in crime scene examination.

The Forensic Laboratory was constructed in March 2003 and is located in San Mateo, California. It is managed by a civilian Laboratory Director who is currently supported by three Supervising Criminalists, one Legal Office Services Supervisor, 28 Criminalists and technicians, two Legal Office Specialists, and two Property Officers.

The Criminalist will report to a Supervising Criminalist and will analyze evidence seized in the course of criminal investigations, providing laboratory analysis and expert witness testimony in the areas of seized drug analysis, toxicology (blood alcohol and breath alcohol) and driving under the influence (DUI) interpretation. They may participate in validation studies of new technology and methods for use in casework, cold case investigations, internal audits, and guiding our intern program. The Office of the City Clerk is a service department within the municipal government upon which the five-member City Council, all City departments, and the general public relies on information regarding the operations and legislative history of the City. The City Clerk serves as the liaison between the public and the City Council and provides related municipal services such as serving as the Elections Official, providing key staff for Council meetings and recording all Council action, and serving as records manager for the protection and preservation of the public record.

The Assistant to the City Clerk position serves as the welcoming and friendly face of government for both the City Council and the City Clerk’s office as this position is the first contact for the front counter and the primary receptionist. The Summer Learning Challenge is a summer library program that encourages kids, teens and adults to read or listen to books in the summer. The Challenge is a fun, interactive program for the whole family that includes free book giveaways, activities, raffles, and prizes for kids ages 0-18. The program starts on June 1 and runs through the end of August.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school interns to support Library staff with activities both at the libraries and at summer outreach sites throughout the City of Redwood City to promote and support the Summer Learning Challenge. The interns will be responsible for planning and delivering library programs, providing them with opportunities where their voices are elevated and valued.

Example of Duties: Under the supervision of a Librarian perform various duties as assigned for the operation of the Summer Learning Challenge. Duties may include, assist with planning and delivering programs for kids and teen, serve lunch an lead activities during the lunch at the Library service, register children and families up in the Summer Learning Challenge and record statistical data, staff outreach events at local school and community sites.

DEFINITION

• Assist with developing discipline techniques and maintaining acceptable classroom behavior from participants.
• Drive/Transport children using City of Pacifica City vans.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment.
• Inspect the site and equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective action to prevent injuries.
• Assist in monitoring site supplies.
• Assist in recording numbers for attendance and nutrition reports. Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist Site Supervisors with the evaluation process for Childcare Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers (I/II) that are assigned to their programs.
• Attend and participate in required in-service training activities.
• Assist Site Coordinator in preparing yearly State of California Desired Results reports, including managing children’s portfolios, and monitoring student progress by using Desired Results Developmental Profile and designated online educational platforms.
