THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Public Works (PW) is committed to providing the highest standards of service delivery to the community as it works to build, maintain, and update the City’s civic infrastructure. Public Works is comprised of approximately 50 employees with a general budget of $33 million and a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) budget that ranges between $15–$30 million depending on the City’s annual infrastructure needs. 

 

Its mission is to ensure San Rafael’s infrastructure meets the needs of a vibrant and growing city through careful management of major improvements and the maintenance of the City’s assets. THE POSITION

The mission of the Senior Management Analyst in the City of San Rafael’s Public Works Department is to provide strategic analysis, fiscal oversight, public communications,  and management projects that enhance the City’s infrastructure, services, and quality of life. This role works to build relationships through internal and external stakeholder collaboration and issue resolution. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public administration, business administration or a related field. A master’s degree in public administration, public policy, or business administration is highly desirable.

The City of Sebastopol is seeking a professional, collaborative problem-solver to serve as the next Planning Director. The Planning Director will direct, oversee, and materially participate in the work of the City’s Planning Department, including current and long-range planning, maintenance of the General Plan, Housing Element, and zoning codes, and review of proposals for construction and development within the City of Sebastopol. The selected candidate will coordinate activities, permits, and projects with other City departments. In addition to reviewing and preparing recommendations to the Planning Commission on development proposals, and serve as the official secretary and officer of the Planning Commission.

The Planning Director performs professional planning duties in the fields of long-range planning, current planning, and building permitting, including a variety of diverse professional planning assignments. The incumbent will oversee technical reviews and evaluations of land use and permit applications, handle the most complex customer service issues, environmental impact documents, and construction projects, and provide supervision or lead direction to professional and support staff. The director will ensure compliance with all aspects of the City’s General Plan and related ordinances and laws, and perform related work as assigned.

Reporting to the Division Manager, the Senior Library Page is responsible for a variety of routine but essential library tasks. 

Key duties include:

• Checking in and shelving library materials,

• Mending and processing new or damaged items,

• Sorting and shifting collections,

• Shelf-reading, and maintaining organized and inviting displays,

• Locating materials for patron holds,

• Duplicating and weeding lists, and 

• Accurately updating item records in the Library’s Integrated Library System (ILS).

In addition to core responsibilities, this position helps train new Library Pages and serves as a mentor to part-time Page staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative work environment. The Senior Library Page also assists library staff with special projects and events, and provides customer service support at the public desk as needed.

This role requires demanding physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements. • Community Outreach: Participate in community events, educational programs, and public demonstrations to promote fire safety awareness and engage with the local community. Serve as an ambassador for the fire department and provide information about fire prevention and preparedness. 

• Administrative Support: Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, data entry, and inventory management. Gain exposure to the behind-the-scenes operations of a fire department.  

• Physical Fitness: Work towards maintaining a level of physical fitness necessary for performing firefighting duties. Engage in physical training and conditioning activities as directed by the department.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 

• Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.  

• Must possess a valid EMT (EMT-1/EMT-B) Certificate either through the National Registry EMT or State of California. Must maintain local certification requirements.  

• Must possess a valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card issued by the American Heart Association or equivalent.  

• Must possess, or within one month of appointment must obtain, an Ambulance Driver Certificate through the CA DMV.  

• Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory record.

• Physical fitness and ability to perform basic physical tasks, continuously move +/-25lbs, and lift up to 50lbs.

This is the journey level in the single level technical Instrumentation Technician class. The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. 

GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 36 full time employees and approximately 160 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2025-2026 fiscal year budget of approximately $13 million.

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising staff in landscape activities, defining and adhering to fertilization requirements, conducting inspections of grounds, and responding to resident concerns.

A valid (within 1-year) and passing PELLETB T-Score of 42 or higher, as well as a passing score of 320 for the Physical Agility Exam and a maximum run completion time of 14 minutes for the 1.5 mile run is required to move forward in the hiring process. If selected for the position, the employee will undergo a full background check, psychological testing, and medical testing. After passing required tests, the employee must commit to attending a 20-week program with the Santa Rosa Junior College Public Safety Training Center. The police academy will be held Monday – Friday and include some nights and weekends. The next academy is January 5 - May 22, 2026. 

Upon graduation, the successful trainee will be transitioned to a Field Training Officer program with the Mill Valley Police Department and promoted to Step 1 Police Officer (probationary) with full benefits. If the employee does not complete and graduate the police academy with a POST academy certificate, they will be released from employment. The applicant may be released at any point they do not pass required testing during the course of the police academy. 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Police Officer Trainee position enables an incumbent to attend a local law enforcement academy and earn their POST (California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training) certificate of academy completion while enjoying the support and mentorship of our agency, and receiving compensation. Through the academy and certification process, the successful incumbent will become eligible for promotion to Police Officer and immediate transition into MVPD's Field Training Program.

•  Answer calls for the protection of life & property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael, Child Care Division is accepting applications for Child Care Aide to work in our School-Age Program.  We are looking for people who are available Monday thru Friday from 2:00 – 6:00 pm.  This is a great part-time position for someone who attends school in the morning.  No weekend work required!

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Assist Director and Instructors in planning and implementing activities.
• Assist in the supervision of children at the child care center or on outings/trips.
• Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and materials.
• Assist in the preparation and cleanup of snacks.
