  JOB DESCRIPTION:

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in. 

Job Related and Essential Qualifications:

Education: 

• High school graduate or its equivalent. 
• Completion of 30 semester (or equivalent quarter) units from an accredited college or university preferred. 

Physical Capabilities/Vision:

• Must be capable of performing the full range of work assigned to a Police Officer free from physical, mental or emotional restrictions, which would adversely impact job performance. 
• All vision must be corrected to 20/20.
• Must be free from color blindness and have a normal field of vision.

Hearing:

• Normal hearing acuity.

Height/Weight: 

• Weight in proportion to height, age and frame.

Age: 

• Applicant must be 21 years of age minimum by completion of Police Academy.

Citizenship:

License:

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Police Officer. This position performs a wide variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression.  Police officers prepare cases and provide courtroom testimony, provide information and assistance to the public and perform special assignments in areas such as patrol, traffic, investigations and gang enforcement.  General supervision is provided by the Police Sergeant.  Responsibilities may include the direct supervision of officers in training and/or the indirect supervision of other officers and/or support staff.   

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Patrols an assigned area in a radio car, on motorcycle or on foot to observe and report suspicious activities or hazardous conditions for the prevention and detection of crime; arrests law violators in accordance with applicable statutory and case laws.
• Answers routine and emergency calls for protection of life and property and the enforcement of City, County, State and Federal laws, codes and ordinances.
• Investigates crimes, accidents, deaths and disturbances; collects, preserves and presents evidence using scientific identification techniques; interviews, questions and/or takes statements from victims, witnesses and suspects and completes investigative reports.
• Directs traffic, including regulation of vehicle flow at emergency or congested places, stops drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws and issues citations or warnings as appropriate.
• Appears in court to present evidence and testimony in connection with criminal prosecution and/or civil cases; serves writs, warrants, subpoenas and other legal documents.
• Provides information and direction to the public; assists in developing community policing strategies; maintains effective public relations and makes public service appearances.
• Provides emergency first aid and/or assistance to injured or incapacitated persons and requests additional emergency medical services as necessary.
• Searches, guards, transports and assists in the booking and custodial care of prisoners.
• Handles missing person cases; takes custody of runaway or delinquent juveniles; investigates child welfare cases involving potential mental, physical or sexual abuse.
• Assists with emergency or planned events, including natural disasters, fires, parades, and crowd control; participates in special details and assignments.
• Directs, instructs, and supervises officers in training; conducts in-service and/or briefing training.  

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• Modern police methods and procedures.

DESCRIPTION 

We are seeking a collaborative, service-oriented individual to conduct a variety of code compliance duties with competence and professionalism. The Code Compliance Officer I/II will be responsible for conducting inspections and investigations pertaining to violations of the municipal code provisions in zoning ordinances, sanitary regulations, business license regulations, building standards and nuisance abatement ordinances.  The Code Compliance Officer I/II must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be self-directed, exercise discretion, and excellent judgment.

The City of Simi Valley is seeking a team‑oriented self‑starter to join our Public Works Sanitation Division as Plant Operator I, II, or III (depending on experience).

Plant Operators perform a variety of skilled technical and semi‑skilled duties in the operation and maintenance of the City’s wastewater treatment plant, including:

• Operating and maintaining plant equipment

• Performing adjustments and repairs

• Collecting and documenting samples for laboratory testing

• Supporting related duties as assigned

                                     POSITION DETAILS:

• Full-Time Regular position
• 9/80 work schedule with alternating Monday or Friday off
• Optional overtime may be available
• Pay ranges for advanced-level positions are as follows:
  • Plant Operator I - $31.73 - $40.55 per hour
  • Plant Operator II - $34.66 - $44.24 per hour
  • Plant Operator III - $38.15 - $48.66 per hour

 

                               MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water or wastewater treatment plant operations

Experience: 

• Experience commensurate with each grade level of certification as required by the State of California, which includes some coursework in the area of assignment.

License/Certificates: 

• Wastewater: Possession of a Grade I, II, or III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
• All Positions: Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license. Positions in Wastewater require a Class B driver's license within 12 months of employment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid C.P.R. Certificate.

                                  IDEAL CANDIDATE:

The ideal candidate will bring:

• Practical knowledge of activated sludge wastewater treatment, BNR, and solids handling processes.

• Technical expertise in treatment processes, safety practices, and tools used in wastewater facilities.

• Experience: At least 3 years, including time in a lead role.

• Maintenance skills: Ability to troubleshoot and maintain equipment, use maintenance management software, and work confidently with current technology.

Paid Leave:

• Work/Life balance with 5.2 weeks of AL (Annual Leave) per year to start (AL combines vacation and sick time). 
• Accruals increase at 5 years and 10 years of service.
• Cash out option available after one year of service.
• 11 paid holidays per year and one floating holiday per year.
