About the Department
The Department of Public Works plans, designs, constructs, operates, and maintains facilities and equipment that are safe and accessible to the clients of County agencies, the general public, and County employees. The Department advises the Board of Supervisors on all public works issues, including rates and charges for services that are fair to both the users and service providers.
 
Public Works has a budget of approximately $200 million and is comprised of over 300 employees in four divisions: Administrative Services and Airports, Engineering and Resource Protection, Facility and Capital Projects, and Road Services.
 
Facilities Maintenance & Operations
FM&O, short for Facilities Maintenance & Operations, ensures County facilities are safe, comfortable, and clean. From historic landmarks to modern offices, we keep things running smoothly.

The FM&O Stationary Engineers perform maintenance and repairs to the various plumbing, mechanical, and lighting systems throughout County facilities. These include boilers, chillers, pumps, motors, lamps, ballasts, drivers, toilets, sinks, and faucets as well as utilizing the lighting and building control systems to schedule and adjust run times of the various pieces of equipment. There are multiple Stationary Engineer I/II vacancies in FM&O.

Our team turns the screws, tightens the bolts, hammers the nails, paints the walls, and types in the codes to keep all the buildings and their systems working. If it's loose, stuck, hot, cold, light, or dark FM&O gets the call. Whatever it takes, our team does it with professionalism, care, and heart!
 
The Position
Under the direction of a Supervising Stationary Engineer, Stationary Engineers are responsible for a wide variety of repair and maintenance work in the areas of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, emergency power systems, water treatment systems, boiler equipment, and piping repair, building automation systems, and miscellaneous equipment repair. Stationary Engineer II is a journey-level classification, and incumbents are expected to have proficiency, perform independently, and solve complex problems in all of the areas listed above.

There are multiple vacancies to be filled throughout the Department. Work locations will include Redwood City Government Center, San Mateo Medical Center, Youth Services Center, and Maple Street Correctional Facility.
Candidates hired as Stationary Engineers must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and alternate shifts. They must also successfully obtain and maintain a Sheriff's Office security clearance as a condition of employment. 
 
The ideal candidates for these positions will have:

• At least three years of journey-level experience as a Stationary Engineer.
• A minimum of three years of journey-level experience in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Extensive knowledge and experience working with boiler and HVAC systems.
• Proficiency in a wide variety of installations and repairs on plumbing, gas system piping, chiller/boiler piping, and wastewater systems, including the ability to operate a large sewer snake.
• Certification as a Backflow Prevention Tester.
• Experience in energy management and computer-controlled systems.
• The ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a variety of equipment, including air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, light commercial furnaces, burners, fresh air and exhaust fans, economizers, and humidifiers.
• Experience with Fire Alarm testing, troubleshooting, and NFPA codes.
• Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.

Examples Of Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operate, maintain, install, and repair electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems.
• Operate, maintain, and repair boiler equipment.
• Repair and replace pipes, fittings, and other equipment used in plumbing, gas, and steam systems.
• Repair electrical equipment, including lamps, fixtures, and switches; adjust electrical controls, motors, and auxiliary equipment up to 480 volts.
• Test, operate, maintain, and repair emergency power systems, including UPS, emergency generators, and associated equipment.
• Use hand and power tools, including cutting and threading tools, grinders, reamers, wrenches, welders, saws, and other special tools.
• Make minor carpentry repairs to doors, windows, floors, and other parts of buildings.
• Do touch-up painting on repaired equipment.
• Remove or arrange for the removal of trash, pests, and other hazardous materials or debris in the course of performing work. 
• Properly place, set, and inspect traps, and collect and remove insects and pests.
• Reclaim or recycle refrigerant using Freon recovery systems.
• Operate water treatment facility, including wastewater and potable water.
• Adjust and calibrate boiler burners and controls.
• Adjust and calibrate chiller controls.
• Test, calibrate, and repair backflow devices.
• Calibrate HVAC controls and associated equipment.
• Monitor building management systems.
• Replace pumps and pump seals, and repair and replace motor valves.
• Repair and replace air conditioning units.
• Troubleshoot HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and energy power systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance.
• Understand fire alarm systems.
• Repair and install chemical monitoring stations.
• Repair, test, and record data on generators.

If designated as the certified water treatment operator:

• Operate water treatment facility, including wastewater and potable water, consistent with performance standards, federal and state regulations, and variable operating conditions and emergencies.
• Make periodic inspections and reports of facility conditions to ensure adherence to maintenance procedures.
• Perform water sampling in coordination with the health laboratory.
• Maintain logs of facility operations, test results, scheduled maintenance, and other operating conditions.
• Control filter operations.
• Coordinate special projects related to water treatment and distribution, in close coordination with supervisor/manager.
• Troubleshoot complex technical problems related to water treatment and develop recommendations to improve water quality standards, facility effectiveness, and efficiency.
• Perform quality analysis of raw and treated water.
• Compile data concerning flows, chemical dosages, levels, pressure, volume, water quality, and other operational information.
• Prepare reports.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  
 

• Completion of courses related to maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and power equipment.
• Two years of journey-level experience as a stationary engineer or equivalent, AND demonstrated experience in maintaining, installing, and repairing electrical, HVAC, plumbing, refrigeration, and power equipment in a large building, plant, or vessel.
• Two years of experience can be substituted with the completion of an apprenticeship program.

Licensure/Certification:

• Must obtain and maintain Sheriff's Office security clearance.
• Universal Certification in Freon recovery upon hire.
• Obtain Backflow Certification within six months of hire and maintain certification.
• If designated as the water treatment operator, possession of or ability to obtain a valid Grade II Water Treatment Operator Certification issued by the State of California within six months of employment is required.

Knowledge of:

TEMPORARY LIBRARY SPECIALIST III, PART TIME

Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). *Seasonal non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than six (6) consecutive months and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). 
 
 The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the positions of Temporary Library Specialist III. An energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills is needed. 
 
 This classification provides clerical support for Library operations and programs by receiving and responding to patron questions, performing circulation duties, and performing duties related to the opening and closing of the Library. This classification differs from the lower-level classification of Library Specialist II in that the Library Specialist II performs the more routine duties.

Essential Job Functions:

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Conducts transactions with the public and employees including the acceptance of payments or fees, registration of new library cards, checking library materials in and out using either manual or automated circulation systems, updating patron records, preparation of requisitions, and receiving reports, distribution of documents, data, or information.
• Provides information about library services, policies, and procedures to the public.
• Performs simple operations for updating or blocking certain fields in a patron's record and performs related work on the online system.
• Assists and trains patrons on the use of the Technology Center; troubleshoots public access computer issues; and responds to patron questions regarding computer usage.
• Uses the online system to search for library materials and patron information.
• Assists in receiving and resolving patron complaints and questions.
• Deletes and discards outdated and damaged library materials from circulation system.
• Processes and shelves holds and other library materials.

In addition to the duties above, employees may be assigned to one or more workgroups.
 
 If assigned to the Circulation work group, additional duties include:

• Provides first point of contact customer service to patrons in person and on the phone.
• Performs daily start-up and closing operations for the computerized circulation system including setting up and taking down self check-out machines, logging on and off computers and restocking the circulation desk.
• Delivers library materials to homebound residents and offsite locations.

If assigned to the Technical Services work group, additional duties include:

• Processes new library materials; applies labels and creates packaging; programs RFID tag, enters information into circulation system and organizes onto carts for processing.
• Corrects call number labels and barcodes; reviews and resolves issues related to media playability.
• Receives and processes receiving slips and invoices for payments.
• Maintains work group's processing manual.
• Develops, maintains, and archives a variety of files, fling systems, and records.
• Collects information from various sources and compiles data for reports.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books, carts and documents weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Senior Civil Engineer in the Public Works Division of the Community Development and Services Agency. Under limited supervision, the Senior Civil Engineer will perform the more difficult professional engineering work including the preparation of civil design plans for various Public Works projects, conducting research studies, performing field inspections and testing, analyzing reports, maps, drawings, or geological data, and procuring permits; act as a resource to staff, contracts, consultants, other agencies and the public regarding areas of assignment; provide lead direction and technical assistance to assigned staff and/or project management; and perform related work as assigned. Senior Transportation Planner (Temporary/Hourly)
Salary: $$65.0163 - $83.5561 per hour

The Town of Los Gatos is accepting applications for a temporary/unbenefited Senior Transportation Planner position in the Parks and Public Works Department. This is a unique opportunity to shape and develop a vital role within our organization.

The Senior Transportation Planner will focus on managing projects and programs that support sustainable transportation opportunities for the Town while addressing and improving mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic conditions around transportation. The selected candidate will support the Town’s ongoing initiatives around transportation planning, including identifying grant programs and managing transportation planning-related projects.

About the Department
The Parks and Public Works Department (PPW) is responsible for the maintenance and improvements of the Town's public parks, facilities, streets, and other infrastructure.  Our goal is to efficiently provide residents, businesses, and visitors with the highest quality service possible, with dedication and professionalism.  The Department has five service areas: Engineering, Capital Improvement, Streets and Signals, Parks, and Environmental Services. The Department also collaborates with all Town departments, and external partners and stakeholders.

• Engineering Services: The Engineering team provides services in the areas of encroachment permits and permitting and inspection of other work in the public right of way, including situations where new developments need to provide improvements in the right of way.

• Streets and Signals: The Streets and Signals team maintains the Town’s roadways, signs, and traffic signals. Traffic plays a big part in this team’s daily work as they seek to meet the needs of the community.  This includes traffic on major streets as well as on neighborhood streets where traffic calming can be a solution.
   
• Park Services: The Park Services team maintains the Town’s parks, trails, open spaces, facility grounds, median islands, parking lot landscaping, downtown planters, and the urban forest as well as administering park use fees and reservations.
   
• Environment Services: The Environmental Services team ensures that the Town is at the forefront of environmental stewardship. This team also manages the Town’s utilities, including the contract with West Valley Collection and Recycling for garbage service Town wide.

The Town of Los Gatos is a general law city operating under the Council/Manager form of government. The Town Manager and Town Attorney are appointed and directly report to the Town Council. Multi-Modal Transportation Activities

• Manages updates to pedestrian and bicycle masterplans; develops, updates, distributes, and promotes Town programs, policies, educational materials, and projects to improve pedestrian, bicycle, and other forms of mobility and to encourage safe practices of all forms of mobility; serve as staff liaison to the Town’s Complete Streets and Transportation Commission.
• Coordinates planning for bicycle and pedestrian facilities in cooperation with other Town Departments, regional agencies, and community organizations.
• Performs other transportation related duties as assigned.

Parking Programs

• Oversees the Town’s Parking Programs.
• Oversees the work of and administers contracts for transportation and parking consultants.
• Develops policies, procedures, and operational actions related to effective parking management, including periodic review of parking-related policy issues such as rates, time limits, enforcement hours, loading zones, and other issues.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
 
Education: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in transportation planning, city and regional planning, urban studies, civil engineering, or closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in transportation development programs, including two (2) years of project management.  A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university is desirable.

License and Certification: 

• A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment. 
• Possession of a Certificate of Registration as Professional Transportation Planner or Professional Engineer in the State of California, or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is highly desirable.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires daytime availability for four-to-six-hour shifts between the hours of 8am and 5pm. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. The Department of Planning and Development is currently recruiting for one (1) Senior Planner that will serve as the County of Santa Clara’s Agricultural Permitting Ally.

With 890 farms, over 288,000 acres of land, and over $310 million of produce, Santa Clara County’s vibrant community is composed of a diverse, multicultural population with agriculture that is driven by dedicated farmers and farmworkers who call Santa Clara County home. The County is seeking a new and key team player with general planning experience as well as a strong agricultural planning acumen to serve as an agricultural permitting ally (Senior Planner). A Senior Planner in this role would help farmers understand what rules and regulations apply to agricultural worker housing and would help applicants navigate the various permits and departmental approvals that are required. As an ally for agricultural permitting, this Senior Planner would focus on making the process of development more approachable and accessible and will explore options and alternatives with prospective applicants to provide housing on their farm or ranch, or establish new or expanded agricultural producing businesses, while maintaining the asset of agriculturally viable land throughout the rural unincorporated county areas. The agricultural permitting ally is a unique role that will be responsible for assisting farmers with agricultural worker housing and other agricultural-specific permitting, including but not limited to: assisting farmers through the County of Santa Clara’s building permitting process; helping farmers resolve code violations and maintain compliance with land use and building codes and standards; identifying opportunities for streamlining agricultural worker housing; promoting and supporting the production of safe and livable housing inventory for agricultural workers through the County of Santa Clara; and, working with local, state, and federal partners to connect farmers with resources. This Senior Planner will also assist in public counter inquiries and day-to-day activities of the Department as needed. In addition to meeting the employment standards for a Senior Planner, candidates must possess in-depth knowledge and working experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:

• Preparing advanced California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents (e.g., Initial Studies, Mitigated Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports).
• Experience in complex medium- to large-scale development entitlement projects such as campus planning, industrial, commercial, housing, agricultural housing or processing developments, or similar projects requiring advanced CEQA processing, staff report writing, data management and analysis, public outreach and public hearings.
• Experience in the management of CEQA and technical consultants, including meeting coordination, reviewing work products, and contracting/billing. Experience in managing consultants to ensure the project is completed within the approved timeline and budget with the proper deliverable is required.
• General requirements of the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA), preparation of annual surface mining inspection reports, and review and approval of Financial Assurance Cost Estimate (FACE), Reclamation Plans, and Mining Plans.
• Analytical understanding of State laws and regulations impacting land use and local government, with directly related work products that include major ordinance revisions and creation and processing of new programs. This would include preparation of professional staff reports of summarized data, conclusions and recommendations.
• Have conducted as a lead project manager or co-project manager long-range, comprehensive planning projects; e.g., general plan updates, major zoning ordinance amendments, specific plans, vision plans, etc., with working knowledge of the principals and practices of such working documents.
• Agricultural Permitting Ally: General requirements of building permit processing, resolving code violations, and maintaining compliance with land use and building codes and standards as it relates to agricultural worker housing and other agricultural-specific permitting.
