The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

Wastewater Operator II

$ 47.36 – $56.56 Hourly

$3,789 – $4,525 Biweekly 

Wastewater Operator II - A journey level classification in the Wastewater Operator series. The ideal candidate must be skilled in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems. Must be able to recognize and report unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating situations. Must have working knowledge of the functions and purpose of wastewater disposal systems; routine cleaning and basic operation of wastewater treatment equipment. Must have knowledge of algebra and geometry as required to perform the responsibilities of the position; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics. Must have excellent communication skills, work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work, and have a dedication to safe working practices. Must be able to work on-call as assigned. Work independently, as needed. 

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and two years of full-time experience in a wastewater treatment facility in a position equivalent to a Wastewater Operator I. Possession of a Grade II California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board.

Wastewater Operator III

Wastewater Operator III-An advanced level classification in the Wastewater Operator series. The ideal candidate  must be skilled in inspecting, operating, and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant and related lift stations including primary, secondary, tertiary and solids treatment processes. Must be able to recognize inefficient, unusual, or dangerous operating conditions. Solid experience in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems; algebra and geometry; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics.  Must have good trouble shooting skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, training and leadership abilities, and have a dedication to safe working practices. Must be able to independently perform plant operations work; work on-call as assigned.

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience equivalent to a Wastewater Operator II in a  wastewater treatment facility.  Possession of a Grade III California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board.

DEFINITION

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES NOTE: The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level.

1. Patrol a designated area of the City to maintain law and order; respond to calls for service or prevent crime; response areas include accidents, burglaries, domestic disputes, vandalism and related emergency/non-emergency calls, apprehend and arrest individuals accused of crimes.
2. Gather, preserve, process and maintain chain of custody for evidence according to established policies and procedures.
3. Conduct investigations, secure crime scenes, collect evidence, interview witnesses, and take statements; prepare and submit official incident and investigative report s; provide testimony on criminal cases in court hearings.
4. Provide traffic control at traffic accident scenes, congested areas, schools, and special events; respond to traffic related accidents.
5. Enforce parking restrictions and regulations, issue citations.
6. Provide information to the general public on law enforcement policies and procedures, traffic rules and regulations and related enforcement standards.
7. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

We are seeking two outgoing and community-oriented individuals to join our Public Works department as temporary, part-time and/or substitute Crossing Guards. This rewarding and impactful position safely assists school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintains order among children waiting to cross the street at street crossing points; permits street crossing only when safe to do so; reports the license numbers of vehicles violating school crosswalk-related traffic laws to Community Services management personnel or the Simi Valley Police Department; and, instills an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Pay rate for this position is $16.50 hourly

Any combination of education and experience, which would provide the necessary knowledge and abilities, along with the following special requirements:

• Must be 18 years of age or older, have open availability, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Must be able to remain calm and use good judgment in emergency situations.
• Basic first aid knowledge is desirable.
• Must possess good hearing ability across a frequency range from 500 Hz to 3,000 Hz. Hearing levels meeting these requirements in the better ear either with or without a hearing aid will be acceptable. If an individual meets the criteria by using a hearing aid, then he/she must wear that hearing aid and be in possession of a spare power source for the hearing aid.
• Must possess corrected vision of 20/40 minimum, with no color blindness.
• A medical examination may be required prior to appointment and as a condition of continuing employment with the City.

The City of Campbell's Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for Public Safety Dispatcher!

Under general supervision, to receive and transmit routine and emergency telephone, radio and computer messages; to keep a variety of police records; and to do related work as required.

Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Answers all telephone calls promptly and courteously;
• Makes rapid and accurate determination of the nature of each call and the degree, severity, and location of any emergency;
• Refers non-emergency callers to the appropriate agency or other resource;
• Questions emergency callers to elicit complete and accurate information necessary for emergency response and enters information in the computer-aided dispatch system;
• Gather information using multiple audio and visual resources;
• Selects emergency response units in exact accordance with established user agency policies and procedures;
• Promptly and properly alerts response units in exact accordance with user agency policies and procedures;
• Maintains current status on all field units;
• Closely monitors any situation presenting a potential danger to the life or safety of field personnel and takes immediate action to dispatch assistance as required;
• Maintains radio contact with field units and enforces proper channel control, discipline, and courtesy;
• Maintains records and logs reflecting the outcome and details of emergency incidents;
• Participates in training and evaluation activities to establish and maintain a high level of proficiency;
• Accesses automated law enforcement systems, inputs data and information, and makes accurate entries into automated record files in accordance with applicable laws, statutes and Department of Justice requirements; and 
• Builds and maintains positive working relationships with coworkers, other City employees, and the public using principles of good customer service.

Knowledge of:

• Standard communications principles and methods for public service dispatch activities;
• Standard office procedures and methods, including filing and the operation of common office equipment;
• Correct English usage, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

Ability to:

• Communicate clearly and concisely with persons under extreme emotional stress;
• Operate a computer aided-dispatch system;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in their course of work including the general public;
• Type into a computer terminal at a net rate of 40 words per minute;

Hours of Work: Public Safety Dispatchers typically work 12 hours shifts, with 4 work days one week and 3 work days the following week.  Shifts available area a day and night shift, or variation, that can rotate every six months.  Dispatchers may have to work weekends, holidays and overtime. 

Special Conditions: Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours; and a willingness to work overtime as required.

Other Requirements: Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:

• Graduation from an accredited high school (GED may be substituted for a high school diploma); plus
• One year of successful full-time responsible experience performing work where the essential functions of the job involved public contact, computer usage or heavy telephone traffic.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR APPLICATION:
Applicants must submit proof of successful completion of the following: 

• Typing Certificate certifying a minimum of 40 wpm dated within one year of the application date; AND
• Criticall Dispatcher test with a passing score dated within one year of the application date; OR
• P.O.S.T. Entry-level Dispatcher Test with a T-score of 50 or above.

Lateral applicants that are currently employed as a Public Safety Dispatcher (non-probationary) do not need to submit proof of test scores, however a California POST Dispatcher Academy Certificate is required.
