The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! 

Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures. 

**No certifications or previous experience is required! Candidates must be comfortable in the water. Swim Instructor training will be provided once hired.**

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Summer Swim Lessons run on Monday-Thurday mornings (7:45 am – 12:00 pm), Monday-Thurday evenings (3:45 pm - 8:00 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 
• Off-Season Swim Lessons run on Monday/Wednesday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), Tuesday/Thursday evenings (3:45 pm - 7:45 pm), and Saturday mornings (7:45 am- 12:00 pm). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under the supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, this position provides swim instruction to adults and children and conducts related work as required
• Swim Instructors teach, supervise, and assess students of all ages and abilities
• Teach group and private swim lessons to adults and children of all abilities
• Use proper teaching tools, equipment, and techniques while teaching swim lessons
• Maintain order and prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.

The City of Auburn is hiring for the seasonal, part-time Bus Driver I position in the Auburn Transit Department.

Auburn Transit is looking for qualified individuals to join our transit team. These positions are seasonal, part-time and each has a maximum of 999 hours of work per fiscal year. The incumbent's schedule will be flexible, based on the needs of the department, community transit needs and employee availability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Bus Driver I is an entry-level classification responsible for routine tasks and operation of specific transit vehicles. It is essential incumbents learn all transit laws, operating procedures and policies. The role is performed under direct supervision from the Transportation Supervisor or designee and does not involve supervision over other staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Operates a bus or other General Public Paratransit (GPPV) vehicles on City streets and highways in all weather conditions to transport passengers on established routes with designated stops, on-demand rideshare services, field trips and special events.
• Ensures passenger safety by observing passenger behavior, verifying safety belts are secured and rendering aid to passengers in an emergency.
• Assists passengers boarding and deboarding as needed or requested, including senior citizens, individuals with disabilities and care-dependent persons.
• Operates a smart device and two-radio to respond to transit dispatch and on-demand rideshare requests requiring adjustments to existing schedules and routes.
• Operates automatic wheelchair lifts, collects fares, issues passes, secures wheelchairs and other assistive devices.
• Promptly notifies management and completes reports regarding accidents and incidents involving vehicles and passengers.
• Conducts mandatory daily pre-trip vehicle inspections adhering to state and city regulations before each route, including reporting inspection results, daily trip logs, and required vehicle repairs and maintenance.
• Performs minor maintenance, repair and cleaning of transit vehicles and fleet storage facility.
• Adheres to all public transit federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
• Maintains a valid California driver’s license and passenger certifications required by the state vehicle code, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation and other applicable standards.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

A temporary equipment mechanic performs diagnostic, maintenance and repair services on light and heavy city vehicles and equipment, such as automobiles, storm/sewer trucks, aerial bucket trucks, dump trucks shuttle buses, construction equipment, lawn mowers, small equipment and stationary generators; and performs other duties as assigned.

The temporary equipment mechanic performs a range of skilled tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. THE POSITION:  This is a trainee level classification which provides transition into the position of Police Officer.  A Police Officer Trainee is hired into this civilian position for the period prior to and during the time they are assigned to a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified police academy.  The police academy has an expected duration of approximately 6 months.  Upon successful completion of training at an academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees are sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer.  The Police Officer Trainee is represented by SEIU Local 1021 and benefits are limited to those of a civilian employee.

Essential Duties
