MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Training:

Experience:

• Possession of , or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California Class B driver's license with Tanker endorsement within the probationary period.

The City of Pacifica currently has an opening for a Assistant Collections System Manager.  Under direction of the Collections System Manager, this position plans, organizes and directs the activities of the Wastewater Treatment Collections System Divisions and works effectively in a team-based environment, carrying out technical, coaching, supervisory, project management, and administrative responsibilities.  

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:   

• Plan, organize, administer, review and evaluate the work of technical and operational and maintenance staff directly and through subordinate levels of supervision.
• Administer the maintenance program at the treatment plant
• Monitor operations to ensure that operating procedures are followed.
• Carry out division goals, objectives, work plans, reports, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate with City departments and State agencies to assure compliance with various regulations, industry standards, City policies, procedures and goals.
• Act as the Designated Operator-In-Charge as assigned in the absence of the Plant Manager
• May act as the Chief Plant Operator for the Calera Creek Water Recycling Plant with current Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
• Assist with regulatory agency reporting.
• Research and prepare technical and administrative reports; prepare written correspondence.
• Conduct operational studies and special projects; gather information, evaluate alternatives, prepare and present reports and recommendations.

 Qualifications:

Experience:
Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance/operation of a wastewater treatment plant, preferably including supervisory experience.

Training:
Equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Electronics, Instrumentation, Biology, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Certification:
Possession and maintenance of a Grade IV Wastewater Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association.

Licenses:  Possession and maintenance of a California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. A Class B license issued by the State of California with endorsements is desired.

Knowledge of:
Applicable State, Federal and local laws, regulations, and policies as they relate to assigned area of responsibility.  Methods, practices, standards and specifications for compliance to industry regulations.  Safety regulations and practices pertaining to work performed.

Skill in:  Supervise plant operations.  Interpret and apply technical standards, procedures, regulations, and City policies and procedures.  Analyze problems, evaluate alternatives, and recommend methods, procedures and techniques for resolution of issues.  Recognize inefficient wastewater facility operations and develop effective programs to assure an efficient operation that is in

Position Duties:

Salary Range

The Assistant Director salary range is currently $178, 713.34 - $288, 700.62. Placement within this range will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. This salary includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. The salary is supplemented by an attractive benefits package. 

The Position

Reporting to the Director, the Assistant Director serves as the Chief Operating Officer of the Environmental Services Department (ESD), overseeing a budget of approximately $550 million and seven direct reports. This executive leader provides strategic and operational direction across a broad and complex portfolio, including Integrated Waste Management, Watershed Protection, Water Resources, Wastewater Management,  Regulatory Affairs and Purified Water, Utility Financial and Business Operations, and Communications. In partnership with Deputy Directors, department leaders, and citywide stakeholders, the Assistant Director drives alignment with City priorities while ensuring regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and organizational effectiveness. Minimum Qualifications:

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I

($24.79– 31.74 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I is a journey-level class in the Wastewater Treatment Plant series, which normally works under general supervision, performing a group of related duties according to established procedures.  This position reports to the Utility Systems or Wastewater System Supervisor and does not supervise.

Wastewater Operator II - A journey level classification in the Wastewater Operator series. The ideal candidate must be skilled in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems. Must be able to recognize and report unusual, inefficient, or dangerous operating situations. Must have working knowledge of the functions and purpose of wastewater disposal systems; routine cleaning and basic operation of wastewater treatment equipment. Must have knowledge of algebra and geometry as required to perform the responsibilities of the position; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics. Wastewater Operator III-An advanced level classification in the Wastewater Operator series. The ideal candidate  must be skilled in inspecting, operating, and maintaining a wastewater treatment plant and related lift stations including primary, secondary, tertiary and solids treatment processes. Must be able to recognize inefficient, unusual, or dangerous operating conditions. Solid experience in basic principles of mechanical, maintenance, and electrical systems; algebra and geometry; basic knowledge of electronics and hydraulics.  Must have good trouble shooting skills, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, training and leadership abilities, and have a dedication to safe working practices. Must be able to independently perform plant operations work; work on-call as assigned.

Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience equivalent to a Wastewater Operator II in a  wastewater treatment facility.  Possession of a Grade III California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State of California Water Resources Control Board.

WR MECHANIC I - $6,958.91 - $8,430.05 MONTHLY

Water Resources Mechanics perform a wide range of tasks involving mechanical maintenance and repairs of pumps, plumbing systems, electric motors, compressors, piping, boilers, underground infrastructure, facilities and buildings, carpentry, HVAC systems, mechanical drives, gear boxes, blowers, collectors, belt filter presses, and chemical feed systems. The work is done at the Water Reclamation Plant, located at 101 West Jack London Boulevard in Livermore.

A Water Resources Mechanic I performs a range of tasks requiring journey level mechanical ability and aptitude. Work assignments are performed according to established rules and procedures. Independent judgment is required and is supported at regular intervals by supervisory review and direction. A Water Resources Mechanic II is distinguished from the WR Mechanic I by the possession of advanced journey level mechanical ability and aptitude and is responsible for solving more difficult technical problems.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator III

($29.43- $37.66 per hour)

PURPOSE: Under general supervision, assists in the operation and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant on an assigned shift.  Performs related responsibilities as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

In addition to being a full, advanced journey-level position, incumbents are expected to provide lead supervision over wastewater treatment plant maintenance staff.  Employees assigned to this class coordinate and perform the full range of skilled duties to operate, maintain, repair and modify the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the wastewater collection system.  

This position reports to the Utility Systems Supervisor and assists in determining equipment, personnel and material needs.  This position may act as the WWTP Supervisor (or as the Utility Systems Supervisor, if qualified) during periods when the appointed Utility Systems Supervisor is on vacation or absent from work for other reasons.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the operation of valves and other related controls to distribute flow through unit process and application of chlorine and chemicals to the wastewater.

2. Monitors control equipment such as pumps, motors, valves, blowers, sludge collectors, heat exchangers, sludge thickeners and other related process equipment.

3. Reads meters, gauges and other instrumentation.

4. Maintains a daily record of facility operation, samples collected and corrections to unit processes.

5. Adjusts or alters chemical treatment of the plant as necessary.

6. Collects samples for observation and analysis from unit processes.

7. Performs daily and weekly laboratory analysis as needed for process adjustments and performance indicators.

8. Performs preventative maintenance to equipment, such as routine service, lubrication and cleaning of process equipment and machinery.

9. Operated a wide variety of tools and equipment used in minor mechanical repair and operation of process equipment.

10. Assists in minor repairs to all process equipment as needed.

11. Performs building and ground maintenance, which may involve weed control, gardening and janitorial services.

12. Performs related duties as required.

Carmel Area Wastewater District is looking for an exceptionally talented and motivated Laboratory Manager who is technically experienced in a water quality laboratory operation, having in-depth knowledge of the principles, practices, and functions of laboratory operations in public utility water and wastewater quality control. They will have obtained and maintained laboratory accreditation under State Water Board Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) requirements meeting the 2024 TNI Standards.

The City of Colfax is currently accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I. This is an entry level position in the Public Works department requiring a minimum of 1 year of experience in a semi-skilled maintenance occupation. Typical duties include: landscape maintenance, electrical and plumbing repairs, minor construction and light carpentry projects, cleaning public restrooms, keeping public streets and parks clean and in good repair. The employee will check storm drains, culverts and ditches; operate tools and equipment to patch and repair pavement, construct and maintain gutters, sidewalks and other incidental improvements. The ability to operate power tools and work safely, wearing appropriate PPE. Occasional maintenance will be required for the wastewater treatment plant and collection systems.
