The Position
Under general or direct supervision, performs a wide variety of law enforcement duties involving crime prevention and investigation, protection of life and property, and enforcement of laws, codes, and ordinances; performs investigation duties, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court; cooperates with other law enforcement agencies and City departments; may provide lead direction for subordinate departmental employees and volunteers; provides information and assistance to the public; and performs related duties as assigned.

Community Oriented Policing
The Foster City Police Department is centered on the philosophy of Community Oriented Policing. There is an expectation that all employees will provide excellent service to the public, every call, every contact, every day. As with all employees, the Police Corporal is expected to make non-enforcement contacts with the public in an effort to more clearly identify the needs of the community, and to assist the public in solving community problems. 

Class Characteristics
This is a lead-level class in the sworn officer series responsible for performing a wide variety of law enforcement tasks in support of a municipal police department. Incumbents perform the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Police Sergeant in that the latter exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to lower-level staff on an assigned shift.

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade; successful completion of 30 semester units of college course work at an accredited institution.  An Associate's degree or higher is desirable. The minimum education requirements may be met by the possession of an Intermediate Post Certificate.

Experience: Possession of a POST Basic Certificate at the time of application. 

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, and a good driving record, to be maintained
  throughout employment.
• Possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). 
• Possession and maintenance of firearms qualification.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of four Oral Panel Interview (Technical - weighted 30%; Tactical - weighted 30%; Community - weighted 30%; and Presentation - weighted 10%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 80% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Police department will make the hiring decision.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Director of Transportation for the Bus Transit division, contributes to the mission of Golden Gate Transit by ensuring that Golden Gate Transit has the best possible trained Bus Operators. Instruct Bus Operators for safe operations of vehicles, uniform compliance, and enforcement of District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Document Bus Operator Students’ performance. Must be willing to work shift assignments from Santa Rosa, Novato, San Rafael, or San Francisco Division locations. May be assigned to perform other duties.
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Conducts training class for newly hired bus operators, including obstacle course, classroom and “over the road” instruction by delivering standardized curriculum.
• Develops classroom curriculum, including itinerary, lesson plans, training and testing materials and implement training for newly hired and existing bus operators.
• Acts as designated D.M.V. examiner in the testing and certification of bus operators; or coordinates with D.M.V. to get student operators V.T.T. cards and license conversations.
• Maintains complete and accurate documentation on every facet of training and testing for each student as required and mandated by state and federal governments.
• Performs individual evaluations of student operators progress in the training program.
• Conducts ongoing Verification of Transit Training Classes for existing bus operators and other commercially licensed employees who need to maintain a V.T.T.
• Supervises Bus Operators fitness -for -duty as they report to work, including observing for divergencies from normal behavior patterns, uniform appearance, grooming and possessions of driving credentials and medical card.

• Works with the Director of Training and Safety on compliance with D.O.E., D.O.T., and D.M.V. training and documentation requirements
• Develops and implement minimum standards for bus operator trainees.
• Monitors progress of trainees and provide periodic counseling and progress evaluation.
• Conducts refresher training for bus operators returning to work after extended absence.
• Testifies on training or related fields at bus operator hearings, arbitrations, or trials.

• Re-trains bus operators as directed by disciplinary hearings on accidents or rule violations.
• Evaluates new equipment and changes in existing equipment and prepare data to be used as instruction criteria. (This material is distributed to bus operators when training on this equipment) outlines and checklists.

• Compiles and maintain "Training Subjects Manuals."
• Obtains and maintain appropriate certifications.
• Works with appropriate staff in the recruiting and selection process for bus operators.
• Works with passenger relations and planning department to provide ADA training for persons with disabilities.
• Represents GGT as necessary and assist in the structure and the presentation of the annual Regional Bus Roadeo.
• Instructs and monitor operation of G.F.I farebox and radio systems.
• Observes and monitor safe operation of vehicles by riding with operators, contact and correct operators on safety procedures.
• Issues infractions and/or discipline for violations of safety policy and procedures.
• Ensures employees under their supervision follow established safe work practices and obey all safety rules.
• Performs driver safety observations by riding on board buses or observing from a moving vehicle or fixed location and provide written reports on these observations; and issues discipline for safety violations observed.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors, and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
• Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, and exposure to water, heat, fire, smoke and other hazardous substances. Established in 1866, the San Francisco Fire Department is rich in tradition and history. From the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906 to the Loma Prieta Earthquake of 1989, the Department has grown to meet the many challenges along the way. Today, the San Francisco Fire Department serves an estimated 1.5 million people, providing fire suppression, fire prevention and emergency medical services to the residents, visitors and workers within San Francisco's 49 square miles.

Under general supervision, an H002 Firefighter engages in firefighting and related activities for the saving of life and property; administers first responder treatment, including first aid; and responds to a variety of emergency situations involving public safety and medical care. A Firefighter also may be assigned duties in connection with fire prevention activities, including the inspection of businesses, schools, and homes to ensure fire safety; maintaining station quarters; and performing other duties as assigned. Firefighters are required to work 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays. During those shifts, a Firefighter lives and works in close quarters with three or more individuals at a fire station. A Firefighter must cooperate and work effectively with the other members of his or her team.

1) Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Written Test
The FCTC Written Test was developed by the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship

Committee (Cal-JAC).
The FCTC Written Exam is a 100 question, multiple choice test consisting of the following four

sections:

• Section 1 – Recall and Comprehend Verbal and Visual Information. This section requires candidates to watch two short videos and answer questions based on the scenarios presented.
• Section 2 – Apply Mechanical Reasoning
• Section 3 – Solve Mathematical Problems
• Section 4 – Recall and Comprehend Technical Information from Written Materials

The FCTC Written Test is administered, at minimum, quarterly. Additional tests will be added as needed, so check this website frequently. FCTC does not administer online tests.

Possession of a current, valid CA Paramedic license [in good standing] may be provided in lieu of the EMT certification. Confirmation of your EMT-1 application with the SF EMSA will be verified by the SFFD during the Chief’s Interview. Candidates must be able to accredit with the local EMS Authority within the one-year probationary period if accredited in a different California County. 3) Candidates must have a valid CPAT with a testing date within one year during the Chief’s Interview and maintain their CPAT through the date background packets are due.

Candidate names will remain on the eligible list for a maximum period of 24 months. The Fire Department has the authority to hire any candidate named on the eligible list (“Rule of List”). Therefore, one’s placement on this list neither guarantees nor implies an offer of employment. Candidates who receive an offer of employment may waive the offer only two times. A third waiver of appointment renders candidates ineligible.
