The Organization 

Incorporated in 1927, Menlo Park is a general Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is the City’s five-member governing body whose members are elected by district for four-year overlapping terms in general municipal elections. The Mayor and Vice Mayor each serve one-year terms and are selected annually by the City Council. The City Council appoints the City Manager and City Attorney as well as members of the Planning Commission and numerous advisory boards. The City Manager appoints all executive and management level positions. City staff report to one of six departments: Administrative Services, City Manager’s Office, Community Development, Library and Community Services, Police, and Public Works, which includes Menlo Park Municipal Water. Fire protection and sanitary services are provided by separate special districts. The City is supported by 296 FTE and has over 55 funds with a total expenditure budget over $216 million. As evidence of the City’s sound financial stewardship and solid financial standing, Menlo Park consistently maintains an AAA bond rating, in large part due to its healthy reserves and strong revenue base. In addition to its many attributes, Menlo Park has one of the most beautiful civic center campuses in the Bay Area. Heritage trees, a running fountain and a duck pond surround City Hall. The campus also includes a nine-acre park, recreation facilities and the Menlo Park Library. These civic amenities make the campus a noted destination for residents, local employees and visitors. Conveniently located, the campus is a short walk to the Menlo Park Caltrain Station and the downtown retail district.

The Department

This position falls within the City Manager’s Office, which, under the direction of the City Manager, has responsibility for staff organizational management, personnel appointment, preparation and execution of the City budget, as well as administration of city ordinances and policies adopted by the City Council. The City Manager's Office provides administrative support to the City Council and advisory commissions, in addition to working closely with the City Attorney's Office. As an integral part of the City Manager’s Office, the Economic Development division ensures that the City addresses the needs of local businesses and provides opportunities for their success. The Position

The City of Menlo Park is seeking a dynamic and experienced Economic Development Manager to join the City Manager’s Office. The Fire Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City which are staffed 24-hours per day, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower. Two fire stations have paramedic ambulances. The City of South San Francisco is the only Fire Department in San Mateo County providing its own paramedic transport services. The Paramedic ambulances respond to medical emergencies, as well as structure fires and other hazardous incidents. The department cross-staffs a Type I/Heavy Urban Search and Rescue, an OES Type VI Engine, and two Fire/Rescue Boats.

The Fire Department is an active participant in the San Mateo County automatic aid system and responds regularly in support of neighboring jurisdictions throughout the county, including the San Francisco International Airport.  Department members are eligible to participate on FEMA USAR California Task Force 3, sponsored by the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.  The department is also an active participant in the Bay Area Maritime Search and Rescue Council and regularly trains with other fire agencies and the United States Coast Guard.  

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.

In support of the San Mateo County automatic aid agreement, all entry level candidates will attend a regional, county-wide, fire academy where they will be introduced to all agencies in the county and rotate through a variety of training sites.  The roughly 12-week academy also includes specialized training depending on candidate certifications.  

MISSION STATEMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department exists to protect the members of our residential and business communities, our neighbors and visitors, their property, and environment.  We will work to prevent injury and damage through education, fire prevention and to respond to the impact of fire, medical emergencies, natural and human-caused disasters, and release of hazardous materials. 

THE POSITION

An eligible employment list will be created for the position of Paramedic/Firefighter and will be used to fill current and future vacancies.  This classification encompasses the full range of firefighter duties and Paramedic Ambulance Transport Services.  Incumbents currently work a 2/4 work schedule with a 24-hour work cycle (2/24 hour shifts with 4 days off). Join San Bruno Community Services, Parks Department as a Lead Maintenance Worker! 

The Community Services Department is committed to providing quality programs, services, and spaces to benefit the health and well-being of the community. Within Community Services, the Parks Maintenance Division is responsible for the maintenance of all City’s outdoor recreation sites, including 20 parks covering 68 acres, 6 baseball fields, 128 acres of open space, all City owned facilities, over 7 miles of medians, and one dog park. 
 

Under the supervision of the Parks Field Supervisor, the Parks Lead Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled tasks and complex assignments in maintenance, repair, and construction work. The Lead Maintenance Worker is a working supervisor position. The position exercises direct supervision over crews engaged in service, maintenance, and repair. Work assignments may also involve considerable skill in various construction and mechanical crafts and the operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment. 

CORE DUTIES

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assigns and reviews work of Maintenance Workers I/II and seasonal staff; trains, supervises, and reviews work of assigned staff; provides input into performance evaluations and performance issues.

• Inspects and repairs equipment at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are safe and functioning properly; maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, materials supply, athletic field layouts and surfaces, base positioning and installation, and layouts of field markings.

• Determines and marks the locations of irrigation system wiring and water lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.

• Responds to complaints and resolves problems regarding functional areas such as tree conditions, ball field conditions irrigation system problems, park, building and ball field lighting, water leaks, parks facility issues.

• Ensures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools assigned to their area of responsibility by checking equipment and tools and maintaining maintenance records, and refers defects to supervisory staff.

• Safely operates vehicles/equipment of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, soil and sand, concrete, performance of tree work; and other job functions; operates pneumatic tools and power tools.

• Oversees and participates in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including laying pipe, trenching and backfilling, determines safety and playability of sports fields and reports information to their supervisor, prunes trees and shrubs in conformance with established professional practices and safe working methods.

• Applies pesticides and utilizes best Integrated Pest Management practices for assigned areas of responsibility.

• Performs set up of traffic safety work zones utilizing traffic safety control devices as needed for work performed in areas such as medians, right-of ways, streets, and parks.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education, experience, and training that would provide the best qualified candidates. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be a high school diploma or GED, and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience performing field maintenance work similar to that of a Maintenance Worker II with the City of San Bruno. 

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license. 

• Possession of a Qualified Pesticide Applicators Certificate. 

In addition, the ideal candidate possesses the following competencies:

• Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical or professional knowledge in parks
  maintenance; keeping up with current developments and trends in Community Services; leveraging expert knowledge to accomplish results.

Come lead the Homework Center at the San Bruno Library!

The City of San Bruno Public Library is currently recruiting for a part-time, temporary Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor. Candidates must be able to commit from September 2025 to June 2026, for 17 hours per week and availability Monday 2-6PM, Tuesday 2-6PM, Wednesday 1-6PM and Thursday 2-6PM (with the exception of Library and San Bruno Park School District holidays). Although this is a ten-month position, the program is ongoing. Continued employment in subsequent school years may be considered based on performance and program needs.

Under the direction of the Library Services Manager, the Library Assistant—Homework Center Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations of the Library's after-school Homework Center, including classroom management, homework help, supervising and training volunteers, collaborating with library staff, and maintaining
accurate records of homework center attendance. The incumbent will be responsible for
maintaining a welcoming place for students to do their homework effectively within the larger context of the library, and for planning STEAM weekly activities and training/supervising students in the use of the 3-D printer. The homework center is a free, drop-in, after-school program for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 

• Some college coursework
   
• Clear and concise oral and written communication skills
   
• Ability to assist students with homework and computer skills
   
• Ability to relate to the public in a tactful and effective manner

IDEAL CANDIDATE

* This is a part-time/temporary/seasonal position with the City of San Bruno.  As such, employees agree to serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be terminated at any time.  This position works a maximum of 17 hours per week and does not provide any benefits, except for paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment.  Employees may use up to 40 hours (or 5 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The Opportunity

Example of Duties:

• Confers with and represents the department and the City in meetings with members of the City Council, members of boards and commissions, various governmental agencies, developers, contractors, business and industrial groups and the public.
• Oversees the development or update of the City’s Comprehensive Sewer and Water Plans, the Capital Improvement Plan and other plans related to municipal infrastructure.

Foster City is seeking a well-qualified individual with strong leadership skills to fill the position of Financial Services Manager. They are responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing the day-to-day operations of accounts receivable, business license, cash receipts, and utilities. The Financial Services Manager compiles annual City budget and all non-departmental budgets, manages the effective use of division resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service, provides complex and responsible support to the Finance Director in areas of expertise, and performs related work as required.

The position will be an overfill position due to the current incumbent's retirement, pending City Council approval. This position will be filled for training purposes to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of operations allowing the new hire to gain hands-on experience and knowledge before the incumbent's departure. The anticipated start date will be October 2025. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or a related.

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible government finance experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Financial Services Department will make the hiring decision. 

Expected Dates for Examinations (subject to change): 
Oral Panel Interview: In person with an option for virtual if needed on September 3, 2025, and September 4, 2025.
Department Interview: In person only on September 8, 2025, and September 9, 2025.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to make an impact through thoughtful budgeting, financial analysis, and cross-department support.

As a Management (Budget) Analyst, you'll work under the direction of a Finance Manager to help develop the City’s annual budget, support financial planning efforts, and keep key systems running smoothly. You’ll be hands-on with both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects that support Belmont’s financial health.

This position is classified as Management Analyst I or II, with the working title of Budget Analyst.
Placement will be made at either level depending on experience and department needs.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and 5-year capital improvement plan

• Maintain the City’s budget system and provide end-user support and training

• Analyze trends in revenues and expenditures, and prepare financial reports and presentations

• Coordinate budget transfers and amendments

• Manage chart of accounts alignment and process documentation

• Support payroll processes, audits, and financial system upgrades

• Research local, state, and federal regulations for financial impacts

• Collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to gather and share financial data

• Contribute to cost allocation models, internal service fund rates, and related analysis

• Take on special projects and assist in the general administration of the Finance Department
