THE POSITION

To coordinate and perform advanced paraprofessional and highly technical field and office engineering work in one or more of the functional areas of the City’s Departments.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Community Development Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

This is the advanced journey-level class of the Engineering Technician series.  It is distinguished from the Engineering Technician II classification in that employees are expected to function as a project leader within one of the functional areas of the engineering division, including the coordination of public works/engineering projects from design through construction.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland Development Services Engineering Branch is seeking a positive and motivated individual with a general interest in public works and construction inspection to support the Development Services Engineering/Encroachment Permitting program.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

• Provide inspection of encroachment permit projects (any work occurring within the public right-of-way).
• Draft and enforce conditions of approval for encroachment permits.
• Assist in issuing encroachment permits.
• Provide general assistance within the development engineering program and coordinate with other engineering work groups. 
• Review plans for public improvements specifically related to encroachment permit projects.
• Review traffic control plans and field verify that they are implemented correctly.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Coordinate the department’s projects from planning stage through project acceptance by conducting preliminary engineering studies.  Prepare plans, specifications, reports and cost estimates for public improvements such as streets, storm drains, sewers, water works, traffic signals/controls, and other public projects.  Make calculations for engineering/surveying and other related work.  Obtain and provide field data and recommendations for preparation of modifications involving technical or monetary changes.  Assist project engineers in performing survey work and obtaining field data for preparation and planning of proposed project.  Provide design, construction or consultation contract administration and management or inspection of capital improvement, repair and maintenance projects.  Establish schedules and methods of providing construction inspection services.  Resolve conflicts between inspectors, contractors and facility owners.  Prepare, review and maintain various data, reports, documents and project files, such as, but not limited to, inspection logs, daily construction logs, change order requests, quantities and material estimates, progress reports, site plans, subdivision improvement plans, development agreements, real property documents, submittals and as-built drawings.  Review improvement plans, maps, specifications, cost estimates, and other work for accuracy, presentation and conformance with established engineering practices, City Standards, General Plans and Specific Plans.  Provide general information to other City departments, the public, development community and other government agencies.  Prepare for review by senior staff policies and procedures for processing requests of the City for City services to facilitate development projects.  Determine and oversee field material testing of samples of materials routinely used in construction projects.  (For example, concrete, asphalts, soils, etc.)  Monitor operational tests on civil, mechanical and electrical systems.  Perform pneumatic and hydrostatic test of piping systems as appropriate.  Coordinate right-of-way planning and acquisition for public improvement projects such as streets, storm drains, sewers, water works, traffic and other public work projects.  Prepare and assist with presentations to City Council, various Commissions and local interest groups.  Share in the responsibility for a sound safety program; promptly report unsafe conditions to the immediate supervisor.  Prepare data for as-built utilizing GPS equipment, recording changes, dimensions, etc.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that the Employee must be present to completed assigned tasks.  Work cooperatively with others including other City departments/divisions and the public.  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Training

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

Two (2) years of experience performing duties comparable to those of a City of Woodland Engineering Technician II or seven (7) years of increasingly complex paraprofessional engineering experience within the Department or approved comparable experience.

Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented with at least six (6) months of college level coursework in drafting, algebra, geometry, chemistry, trigonometry, or related field. 

Additional coursework in civil engineering, construction technology, land development, project management or a closely related field from an accredited college is highly desirable.

License or Certificate

Specialty certification such as Construction Management, Project Management, Transportation Management, Land Use and Environmental Planning, or the equivalent is desired. 

Requires possession of a valid California driver’s license upon hire.

About the Position:   The Property Management Specialist I/II position is responsible for managing rental and communication leases, as well as leased land programs, including coordinating work of contractors, tenants and staff, on maintenance and construction of infrastructure on District lands. This position also supports agricultural rentals and historical leases.  Key responsibilities include preparing Requests for Proposals, selecting tenants, negotiating and drafting leases, and coordinating and managing the installation of infrastructure including but not limited to fencing and water systems.  The role also involves ensuring compliance with lease terms, collecting rent, and handling day-to -day general tenant communication.  The Property Management Specialist is expected to have the skills to trouble shoot and repair minor maintenance issues, as well as addressing larger infrastructure projects by overseeing contractors, lessees, or staff to ensure timely and effective completion of repairs. 

Responsibilities

The Property Management Specialist I performs most of the duties required of the position at an entry-level, providing support to more experienced Property Management Specialists and the District’s property management programs. Work is typically assigned on smaller scale projects or as support for larger projects managed by more experienced property management staff.

The Property Management Specialist II performs the full range of duties and is typically assigned to medium and large-scale projects which may be managed independently or in support of larger interdisciplinary, interdepartmental project teams as a property management subject matter expert. Successful performance requires coordinating work with other District departments and public agencies, as well as frequent interaction with tenants, landowners, contractors, consultants, and the general public. At this level. staff receive only occasional guidance for new or unusual situations  and are fully knowledgeable of operating procedures and policies.

City of Sunnyvale Field Technicians work in the field when assigned to the Compliance Inspection group in the Regulatory Programs Division. Field Technicians work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector primarily in the field collecting samples from industries, restaurants and the sanitary sewer collection system in order to determine compliance with local and federal discharge limits. The Field Technicians in Compliance Inspection work closely with the Environmental Compliance Inspectors to regulate dischargers. Field technicians also perform sampling at designated drinking water locations.

Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Conservation Grazing Program Manager who will plan, organize, manage, oversee, and participate in the implementation of objectives outlined in the conservation grazing program and the agricultural land management projects within the District’s Coastside mission.  The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge base of resource management principles focused on rangeland ecology, rangeland vegetation management, rangeland plant physiology, and rangeland animal management and can provide a high level of lease oversight to assist tenants with incorporating resource protection measures as part of their grazing practices.  The start date for this position is April 2026. District housing for rent will be available in April 2026 for the selected individual.

About the Position: The Conservation Grazing Program Manager is responsible for monitoring compliance with lease terms, coordinating with grazing tenants to complete annual work plans, preparing contracts for infrastructure improvements, and soliciting proposals for grazing services, vegetation management, and infrastructure enhancements. This position is housed within the Facilities & Fleet Department and works closely with the Natural Resources department on predation issues, pond management and water supply enhancement projects, and cultural resource protection. The role also collaborates with the Land Stewardship & Trails department on the maintenance and repair of roads and culverts located on grazing properties. As the single point of contact for Midpen’s conservation grazing program, the position is expected to enhance and expand customer service support for grazing tenants and agricultural partners on the coast. Successful performance in this role requires a strong working knowledge of a broad range of resource management and property management principles, contract and project management practices, and effective program management and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to provide guidance to multi-disciplinary teams.  This position works regularly with staff, public agencies, community groups, contractors, scientific study representatives, easement holders and grazing tenants. This position operates in a hybrid work environment with approximately 60% of the time spent working in an administrative or field office, 10% work from home, 30% conducting field work.  Available housing is located on the San Mateo coast just south of Pescadero, CA on the coastal side of Cloverdale Open Space Preserve, which is approx. 1 hour and 15 min driving time from the Midpen’s administrative office in Los Altos. The District currently has 12,000 acres under lease for conservation grazing along the Pacific Coast extending from Half Moon Bay to Pescadero. Field work requires driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and windy to hot and dry, and hiking through steep terrain and wildland areas. District vehicles are available for use for travel to the grazing properties. Poison oak is present on several grazing properties and exposure is possible.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment. Public Safety Media and Engagement Manager

The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Safety is seeking a dedicated Media and Engagement Manager to support the Office of the Chief in meeting the growing demand for transparent, timely, and strategic public safety communications. This management-level position will serve as the department’s primary communications lead for non-critical incidents, overseeing media relations, crisis and emergency communications, social media and website content, internal communications including a regular staff newsletter, and community engagement initiatives.

The salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. Initial placement in the salary range is typically within the first half of the range; however, in certain circumstances (i.e. an experienced lateral candidate) placement at or above the midpoint may be considered. ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy Police Department is seeking a highly skilled, detail oriented, and forward-thinking Police Crime Analyst to join our team of dedicated public safety professionals. This critical position plays a key role in helping the department anticipate, understand and respond strategically to crime trends. Your work will directly support smarter policing, improve resource deployment, and ultimately enhance the safety, trust, and quality of life for everyone in our community. You will transform complex data into actionable insights, helping our team make informed decisions. The Police Crime Analyst serves as an internal expert in crime pattern recognition, predicative analytics, and investigative support. 

This is a journey-level, exempt position in which the incumbent works independently, or as part of a team, on professional level work involving significant analytical ability. This position requires both breadth and depth of use of application of theories, concepts, and techniques used, and a thorough understanding of policies and procedures. Under the general direction of a Police Captain and Police Chief, the Crime Analyst will perform the work of reviewing, monitoring, developing and analyzing methods, with special emphasis on related statistical data and computerized systems. The position requires specialized expertise in statistical analysis, systems analysis, and methods analysis.
