Position Duties  

The total salary range(s) for this classification is/are:  

Animal Health Assistant (Full-Time & Part-Time): $31.76 - $38.58/hour  

Animal Health Technician (Full-Time & Part-Time): $34.94 - $42.44/hour 

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill one (1) Animal Health Technician (Full-Time) and multiple Animal Health Assistants and Animal Health Technicians (Part-time Unbenefited) positions in the Animal Care and Services (ACS) Division. The Animal Health Assistants/Technicians will be responsible for providing paraprofessional medical care and treatment to shelter animals.  

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  

• Checking and monitoring the health of animals, as well as rendering first aid and emergency treatment. 

• Assisting shelter veterinarians in surgery, spay/neuter and other medical procedures. 

• Maintaining pharmaceutical and other medical supplies; cleaning of kennels/cages. 

• Feeding and caring for animals. 

• Humanely performing euthanasia, as required.  

These positions will be required to work weekends, holidays, nights and rotating shifts, respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours, and wear a uniform.

Primary responsibilities:

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a driven, detail-oriented Accounting/Customer Service Representative to join the Public Services Division within the Finance Department. This role will serve as a key liaison between the community and the City's revenue operations, managing a high volume of payments and customer inquiries, supporting diverse revenue programs, and adapting to evolving priorities. With ample cross-training and collaboration opportunities across the City, this position offers professional growth and the chance to make a tangible impact on the delivery of essential City services.

Primary Responsibilities

• Utility Billing & Collections: Prepare and adjust water and wastewater bills, resolve customer inquiries, and set up payment arrangements to maintain uninterrupted service. When accounts become delinquent, coordinate lien filings and work with customers and field crews to clear balances and restore service.
• Business Tax: Oversee the full life cycle of business license applications and renewals, from initial customer service to intake and fee collection, to compliance verification, and final issuance. Coordinate with Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Thousand Oaks Police Department to resolve discrepancies, update records, and provide guidance on licensing requirements.
• Payment Processing & Cashiering: Process payments for all revenue programs, both at the front counter and within a centralized unit, and reconcile daily cash receipts. Balance cash drawers, prepare bank deposits, and validate transactions against the general ledger.

• Interdepartmental Collaboration: Collaborate with field technicians, IT, Thousand Oaks Police Department, and other departments to resolve billing and payment issues, identify process improvements, and share best practices. Cross-train on multiple revenue streams to enhance team agility and service coverage.
• Administrative Support: Administer specialized billing programs, including parking citations for false alarm, from initiation through resolution, ensuring accuracy, analytics, and compliance.

The City of San Rafael is seeking a motivated and civic-minded Communications Intern to support equitable engagement through the City’s external communications, digital content, and public engagement initiatives.  This temporary, part-time role is ideal for individuals interested in learning more about local government and public communications.  This is a part-time/temporary position, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) that receives no City benefits.  This position will work for up to 29 hours per week (days/hours may vary).

Under the direction of the Civic Engagement Manager, the Intern will assist with day-to-day communications tasks such as social media content creation, newsletter writing, website updates, and public information campaigns.  This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-time public service storytelling and information sharing. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Assist in designing, writing, and editing content for a variety of communications platforms including websites, social media, e-newsletters, flyers, presentations, and press materials.
• Help document City programs and events through photography, videography, and brief interviews.
• Support the development and scheduling of social media content across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor.
• Help maintain and update the City’s website and digital newsletters.
• Contribute to internal content calendars and project trackers.
• Participate in community outreach efforts, including tabling at events, supporting public meetings, and gathering community feedback. 
• Track analytics and metrics from newsletters, social media platforms, and web traffic; monitor media coverage and social media engagement; compile analytics reports to inform communication strategies.
• Support translation coordination and multilingual content production if bilingual (Spanish-English) skills are present.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious about public service, a strong communicator, and excited to learn in a hands-on environment.  They are a self-starter who can write clearly and adapt to a range of topics and formats.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Basic principles and practices of public communications, social media management, and/or media relations.
• Writing and editing for clarity, style, and grammar.
• Social media platforms, email marketing tools, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Mailchimp).
• Basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing platforms (preferred).
• Cultural competency and sensitivity in engaging diverse communities.
• Highly preferred:  fluent, professional-level Spanish and English (both written and spoken).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is highly desired.
• At least 1 year of experience in communications, public-engagement, media, or related work (internships included).
• OR currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree or certificate program in communications, journalism, graphic design, public relations, public administration, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and social media platforms.

WORK SCHEDULE:

• This is a hybrid, temporary position limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30.
• Part-time up to 30 hours per week.  Flexible scheduling is available, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for community events.

The City of Sebastopol is looking for a respectful, compassionate, empathetic Police Officer Trainee. The selected candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolled at a future date as a self-sponsored recruit in a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Police Academy. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program. Attendance and successful completion of a Police Academy is a legal requirement to be hired as a Police Officer within the State of California and is a requirement for a City of Sebastopol Police Officer Trainee to be considered for promotion to probationary Police Officer with the City of Sebastopol.
