TRANSPORTATION SPECIALIST

(Senior Citizen Van Driver)

$14.64 - $17.80/hr., Part-time, No Benefits

DEFINITION:  Under supervision, drives the City’s 7-15 passenger van(s) and provides responsible, safe transport for senior citizens and the physically disabled.  Schedule may include evenings, holidays and weekends; work schedule will not exceed 28 hours per week.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  All applicants MUST attach proof of Class B Driver’s License with passenger endorsement at the time you submit your employment application.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The employee must have the ability to:

• Transport seniors and disabled community members to and from appointments.
• Have the ability to operate a wheelchair lift including correctly loading the passenger onto the wheelchair lift and effectively securing the individual to the vehicle using the appropriate tie downs; assist passengers entering and exiting the vehicle; keep daily records and logs for attendance, mileage and maintenance concerns.
• Complete a thorough pre-trip and post trip inspection of the transportation vehicle on a daily basis.
• Maintain a punctual schedule of picking up seniors for their appointments to ensure a high quality of service.
• Maintain vans, including weekly wash, motor pool inspection, weekly inventory of emergency supplies, and securing the vehicles in the City yard at the end of the night; Contact immediate supervisor and motor pool supervisors when mechanical failures arise.
• Ensure the safety of the community including passengers and personal care attendants as well as other drivers and pedestrians throughout the City.
• Ensure all passengers are safely seat belted in and that safety precautions are adhered to at all times.
• Answer phones and interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
• Navigate the City of Fontana efficiently including adhering to speed limits and follow all traffic laws.
• Follow appropriate cash handling procedures including writing out a receipt for all customers that pay for a ride at their pick up time; Complete a daily transportation log which includes establishing the pickup times for the route’s passengers.
• Double check the day’s schedule and follow up with the transportation office to ensure that all passengers have returned home safely either through the senior services transportation vehicles or on their own accord.
• Operate a computer and related software.
• Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Perform any other tasks or functions deemed necessary to the daily operations of the employer.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:  A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  The employee must have the knowledge of Bus/Van operation, effective safety precautions, and first aid techniques.

EXPERIENCE: Successful candidate will have a valid Class B California Driver’s License with passenger endorsement, a good driving record, and some bus/van driving experience. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  This position requires prolonged sitting, reaching, twisting, turning, grasping, making repetitive hand movements and occasional walking on level, unleveled, and slippery surfaces, bending/stooping, and crouching in the performance of daily duties.  May be required to lift, carry and/or push object weighing 10 pounds or more.  May work in all weather conditions and be subject to vibrations when holding onto steering wheel, work around moving traffic and often works with constant interruptions.  The employee must have good vision and hearing abilities.

BUILDING INSPECTOR I

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Building Inspector I in the Development Services Department. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

DEFINITION

To perform a wide variety of light commercial and residential building inspection duties at various stages of construction, alteration and repair for compliance with California building code, plumbing code, electrical code, and local ordinances; provide technical assistance to other inspection staff; and to provide information and assistance to the public.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level class in the Building Inspector series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Building Inspector I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of assigned area of responsibility are learned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from the Building Inspection Supervisor and may receive technical and functional supervision from the Senior Building Inspector.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Enforce building related codes, including adopted California Building Code, California Mechanical Code, California Plumbing Code, California Electric Code, California Residential Code, California Green Building Code, California Energy Code, and local ordinances.
• Read and interpret construction plans and documents; perform on-site inspections at various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes; research issues for code compliance; issue correction notices and citations.
• Perform on-site inspections of footings and foundations, framing electrical installations, plumbing and mechanical systems; inspect general framing and structure of building ensuring that sheathing and shear are properly secured, framing materials are of correct size and material and that the wall, roof, and floor systems match the plans and specs for design and layout.
• Inspect foundation prior to placement of concrete, checking size and placement of steel for reinforcement.
• Inspect plumbing for size, locations, and installation of all piping within the building and servicing the building; inspect mechanical systems for equipment, including location, duct sizing, emergency shutoffs, smoke and fire damper installations and locations.
• Inspect electrical systems for proper wire sizing, installation, and location, with the proper ratings of servicing equipment and fixtures.
• Inspect swimming pools and spas for steel placement prior to gunite, electrical, plumbing, and gas lines associated with pool or spa, inspect deck thickness and installation of all equipment.
• Investigate complaints regarding building related issues; assist residents with compliance issues.
• Maintain records of building and inspection activity and complete related reports daily.
• Assist in researching code questions, construction techniques and complaints regarding commercial and residential buildings.
• Respond to complex and sensitive building issues; follow up on daily inspections with contractors, architects, engineers and building owners either personally, by telephone, or in writing.
• Interact with the public to verify and enforce safe building practices.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, and the public, using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Accepted safety standards and methods of building construction for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings.
• Building related codes and ordinances enforceable by the City, including the adopted California Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Residential, Energy, Green Building and Mechanical Codes; research methods and sources of information related to building code enforcement.

Ability to:

• Learn to apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and materials.
• On a continuous basis, know and understand all aspect of the job; analyze technical plans and reports; prepare inspection reports; know and understand, interpret, and explain department and program policies, procedures, rules, codes, laws, and operations procedures; observe, analyze, evaluate, and solve building inspection problems/issues, taking appropriate course of action; remember various building inspection rules and codes.

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by college level coursework or certification in Building Inspection Technology, California Electrical Code (C.E.C.), California Building Code (C.B.C.), California Mechanical Code (C.M.C.),California Plumbing Code (C.P.C) or California Residential Code (C.R.C).

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license by date of appointment.
• Possession of International Code Council (I.C.C.) certification as a building inspector within two years of date of appointment

Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles on a daily basis. BUS/VAN DRIVER (Part-Time)

The Position

The City of San Bruno Community Services Department is seeking a on-call part-time Bus/Van Driver to drive the city's 20-passenger bus/van. As needed, the driver will transport program participants between the San Bruno Senior Center and War Memorial Recreation Center, take participants on day trips, and run errands.

This position will be on-call and will work a variety of shifts to fill-in for regularly scheduled drivers. This position may work up to 30 hours per week, for 2 weeks each month. Schedule will vary depending on the needs of the Department. Prior to appointment, and once appointed into the position, the employee will be included in the random DOT Drug Testing Program and the DMV pull notice program.

Minimum Qualifications

The City of American Canyon is seeking individuals who can perform an array of general clean-up and maintenance tasks in various City departments (Parks Maintenance is the current focus) and to provide assistance to regular employees engaged in skilled and semi-skilled duties. Duties will include but are not limited to field labor tasks as identified: shoveling/digging dirt, concrete, and asphalt; assisting with irrigation repairs, installations or adjustments; trimming and pruning trees and shrubs; and using a weed eater, lawn mower, blower and other light landscape equipment.
