THE POSITION:

The Library and Recreation Department (Child Care Division) is recruiting for a full-time Child Care Instructor II position in their Preschool Programming at Parkside Preschool.  Under the supervision of the Child Care Center Director, this position will provide developmental care and supervision to children enrolled in the childcare program; implement age appropriate curriculum for children; establish and maintain supportive relationships with children and parents; and other related duties as assigned.

This position performs the following essential job duties:      

• Plan, implement and supervise developmental preschool programs.
• Develop age-appropriate curriculum and activities to stimulate children’s cognitive skills, abilities and development.
• Evaluate needs of children, staff and site in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children and staff.
• Supervise the activities of children and records observations of children’s behavior and activities; monitor behavioral patterns and develops assessment and profiles.
• Schedule parent conferences to discuss children’s development and concerns; work with family to devise learning and development strategies as necessary.
• Maintain accurate attendance and enrollment records; maintain appropriate confidential records.
• Supervise and coordinate the work of subordinate childcare staff.
• Monitor and order classroom supplies and materials as needed.

• Classroom management techniques
• Appropriate disciplinary techniques
• Oral and written communication skills
• Group leadership and teaching skills

To be eligible for this position you must possess the ability to:

• Plan and implement curriculum based on principles of Child Development.
• Supervise and coordinate staff and children.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships.  Work cooperatively to achieve program goals.
• Interact and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with children, parents, staff, host school and community members.
• Manage time, activities and resources effectively.
• Work as scheduled.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• Completion of twelve (12) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses.     
• One year working with children in a Preschool setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance
• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver’s License

LIFEGUARDS AND SWIM INSTRUCTORS

The City of San Rafael is now accepting applications for lifeguards and swim instructors to work at the Terra Linda Community Center and Pool and the Hamilton Pool.  Come experience a summer full of sun, teamwork and community!  These positions are seasonal and part-time (hours will vary).  Pool season is from the end of February through the end of September.  

Qualificiations:

• Excellent customer service skills - in person and over the phone
• Professional demeanor - punctuality, shift consistency, clean uniform
• Honesty, integrity, and a desire to be an active member of the team
• Friendly with a positive attitude
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule (including weekends and weekdays and some holidays)
• Must be able to work outside in ALL weather conditions (rain, sun, hot weather, cold weather, early morning)

Experience Required:

Lifeguard:

• Must have current certification in American Red Cross CPR and AED for the Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and Lifeguard Training.
• If you are not yet certified but are enrolled, or planning to enroll in a Lifeguard Training Class, you may apply and be hired upon the contingency that you pass your class.

Senior Lifeguard :

• Must have current certification in American Red Cross CPR and AED for the Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and Lifeguard Training.  Lifeguard Instructor and Water Safety Instructor are highly preferred.
• Senior Lifeguards are responsible for directly assisting the Pool Manager and Recreation Supervisor and helping with training, customer service, staff management, swim lesson coordination and other general duties.

Swim Instructors:

• Must have current certification in American Red Cross CPR and AED for the Lifeguard, Standard First Aid and Lifeguard Training.
• American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and experience is highly desired but not required.  Must be able to teach group and private swimming lessons.  Training can be provided.

CHILD CARE DIRECTOR

Pickleweed Preschool

$3,960 - $4,814 per month

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Child Care Director.  Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position will perform responsible work in administering and managing a state-funded preschool program.  The incumbent in this position will independently oversee the program and staff at Pickleweed Preschool located in East San Rafael. 

This position performs the following essential job duties: 

• Assist with the establishment of the program budget
• Hire, train, and supervise staff
• Supervise timely completion of annual ECERS
• Supervise completion of DRDP assessments twice annually
• Supervise timely completion of parent surveys
• Supervise timely completion of two parent conferences annually
• Supervise timely ongoing child portfolios
• Supervise and implement systems for creating and maintaining regular written child observations
• Complete annual June 1st report to Department of Education
• Schedule staff and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained
• Facilitate parent nights for families four times per year
• Liaison with parents and school districts
• Function as classroom instructor
• Approve Child Care Instructor II curriculum and plans
• Organize regular staff meetings
• Oversees referrals of children for assessment and special services
• Complete annual written evaluations of all staff
• Perform other duties as required.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge/skill of:

• Ability to work independently in carrying out a comprehensive program.
• Willingness to support and carry out the goals and objectives of the Child Care program.

Education and/or Experience:

• AA Degree or 60 units, with 24 ECE  units plus 6 administrative units and 2 adult supervision units and one year working in a preschool program, AND/OR
• Site Supervisor Permit.    

Special Requirements:

• Must be willing to work the hours required for the assigned Center.
• Possession of California Driver’s License preferred.

• Developmentally-appropriate practices and curriculum.

• Utilization of developmental assessment tools.

Education/Experience:

• Completion of six (6) units of Early Childhood Education, or Recreation related
• Six (6) months of experience working with school age children
