Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks Manager vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks Manager classification is $143,860.08 - $175,309.68 annually. 

This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

The Parks Manager serves as the General Manager for Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ), providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for all facets of the park and zoo. PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour, DOE

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

DEFINITION
The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for the Junior Warriors youth basketball program. Responsibilities focus on monitoring basketball practices and games for kindergarten-aged through middle school participants. Basketball knowledge is preferred but not required. All staff will be cross-trained to assist with multiple aspects of the program, including refereeing younger age groups (K–3rd grade) and scorekeeping/timekeeping for older age groups. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.
 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program Assistant.
 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Essential duties may include, but are not limited to:
•Gym monitoring for practices and games, including opening the gym, setting up and lowering hoops, and cleaning up.
•Refereeing for younger age groups (K–3rd grade).
•Scorekeeping and timekeeping for older age groups.
•Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
•Attending monthly staff meetings.
•Various tasks related to the implementation of youth basketball programs.

Water Supply Planning and Conservation Unit (Position Code 1086) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

Overview: 

Valley Water seeks a collaborative, detailed-oriented and customer-service focused individual to join the Water Revenue team as a Management Analyst I. The incumbent will be public facing, engaging with water customers and well owners throughout Santa Clara County. As a member of the Water Revenue team, key responsibilities include generating and processing water bills; providing excellent customer service in person, by phone and via email; ensuring all data is processed and captured in an accurate and timely manner; and collaborating with colleagues. About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. HHPZ is open year-round catering to families with children. In the alternative, a Trainee may hold a bachelor's degree, but does not have the experience for a journey-level role just yet. Under general and/or close supervision of an executive or department manager, the incumbent will train on and perform a variety of analytical tasks, including budget preparation, program management, and policy evaluation. As experience and education progress, the incumbent may begin to take on more complex assignments. 

While in the Trainee capacity, the incumbent is an at-will, probationary employee. Upon successfully gaining the required experience or bachelor’s degree, the incumbent will be evaluated for potential placement in the Journey-Level Management Analyst classification.

MANAGEMENT ANALYST – JOURNEY LEVEL
This is a journey-level, exempt position in which the incumbent operates with greater independence and responsibility. The position requires both breadth and depth of knowledge in theories, concepts, and techniques used in budget, project, and policy analysis, along with a thorough understanding of policies and procedures. Under general supervision, the incumbent will perform complex analytical work, evaluate management projects, and may develop policy recommendations.

Unlike the Trainee, the Journey-Level Analyst is expected to work with greater autonomy, requiring less oversight in conducting research, preparing reports, and making recommendations on administrative and operational matters. • Confer with the water treatment plant operators, other internal staff, and personnel from other utilities regarding system operation.
• Explain the system's SOPs to visitors.
• Observe and inspect pumps, motors, generators, and related equipment for safe and proper operation; coordinate high-voltage and general switching orders in dealing with Western Area Power Authority (WAPA) and Pacific Gas and Electricity (PG&E).
• Issue internal and external switching and clearance orders; bypass portions of the system during emergencies or planned maintenance shutdowns; and ensure lockout/tagout procedures are completed before maintenance activities commence.
• Perform confined space entry functions in the completion of assigned tasks; ensure adherence to established safety procedures and precautions.
• Maintain detailed logs and records of work performed; issue source change notifications; and prepare clear and concise reports, as requested.
• Interact with Valley Water's Emergency Operations Center (EOC), field operations personnel, and County communications personnel to resolve emergency flood control situations during periods of heavy rain.
• Work 12-hour, day or night shifts on weekdays or weekends on a rotating basis every six months.
• Work on-call during the weekends and nights on a rotating basis.
• Communicate with external customers such as the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and San Benito County Water District and internal customers (water treatment plants operators, water resources technicians, and hydrographers) about operations such as shutdowns; coordinate with customers to ensure they receive deliveries; and communicate, plan, and orchestrate system.
• Use pressure monitoring devices to find leaks in pipelines.
• Follow safety regulations and applicable safety policies and procedures.
• Serve as a disaster service worker and perform disaster service activities as may be assigned by supervisor or law, pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100.
• Perform all related duties and responsibilities as required.

Ideal Training and Education:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade

This position requires the individual to be on-site and is typically not a teleworking position. 

We are now accepting applications for seasonal, part-time Recreation Aide I positions to work in our Fall Sports Program.

DEFINITION

The Recreation Aide I is the entry level class and is responsible for performing less complex assignments within an established procedural framework where there are minimal consequences of error. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Recreation Aide II by the performance of more routine, repetitive and less complex assignments.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives supervision from administrative and/or management staff. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision but those at the higher levels may be asked to supervise from time to time but not on a consistent basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Include but are not limited to the following)

• Assist with the following: set-up and tear down of program equipment, preparation of playing fields and routine facility maintenance.
• Keep statistics and accurate score for basketball, softball, flag football, soccer, and volleyball.
• Collect and record the team's lineups and assist officials during the game with specific rules and policies.
• Officiate adult and youth volleyball, youth basketball, and youth football games.
• Uphold the rules of play and code of conduct.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The incumbent needs to have the ability to hear and speak for purposes of communication. The position also requires both near and far vision when administering programs and operating equipment. The need to lift, carry and push equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot, and cold.

Knowledge of: Principles, practices and methods used in various recreational activities and programs. Basic principles of reading and mathematics, applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recreational manuals and specifications; standard office procedures, practices and equipment; modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling and grammar; and occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to: Be able to receive direction and follow oral and written instructions; have qualities such as reliability, dependability, creativity and enthusiasm; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow city employees, children, and parents.

Ability to: Work with children, a strong knowledge of sports programs and the rules or running recreational programs. Operate an office computer and variety of word processing and software applications. Ability to: Lift up to 50 lbs.; deal successfully with the public, in person and over the telephone; courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; make suggestions to adjust standard operating procedures as is appropriate; read, interpret and record data accurately; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
