The Position: 

This is a lead role for the City’s Key Customers and the key customer engagement team. This role is pivotal in maintaining and enhancing our business relationships with key customers, ensuring their needs are met with exceptional service and support.

 In this role, you will build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders of major customer accounts while providing administrative and technical support. This position will require strong problem-solving and customer service skills to find and implement solutions. You will work with other departments to improve customer experiences and support, and you will create and share reports and presentations with senior management, highlighting important customer insights. This position will lead direction for assigned professional, technical, and clerical staff and perform work on the more difficult customer accounts as assigned.

Effective December 21, 2025, the salary range for this position will be 135,246.00 – 172,696.44. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range. 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business administration, marketing or a closely related field.

 

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a utility or business organization where work responsibilities have involved project management, public affairs, and/or marketing. 

 

Acceptable Substitution: 

• Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience may be accepted in-lieu of a bachelor’s degree.  

 

• A Master's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or other related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience. 

 

License/Certifications: 

Possession of an appropriate, valid California driver's license is required.

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

Experience supervising assigned professional and other staff is desirable.

 

Other Requirements:

The Solid Waste Programs Division is leading the charge towards making Sunnyvale a Zero Waste City with the goal of 90% waste diversion by 2030 through innovative programs like FoodCycle and waste energy recovery. Another exciting challenge that the Division Manager will be leading is the rebuilding of the SMaRT Station.
 
The Solid Waste Programs Division Manager is a management classification responsible for a wide range of functions including preparing and administering the divisional budget, supervising technical and professional staff, outside agencies and consultants, leading major projects and representing the Division with other departments.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science, engineering, public administration, or related field; AND

The Legal Division provides a wide array of legal services to support the entire Air District, including handling enforcement cases; advising on the California Environmental Quality Act, AB617 Community Emission Reduction Plans, contracts, grants, and finance matters; developing regulatory language; supporting the permitting program; reviewing records under the Public Records Act; and staying abreast of current legal developments in air quality throughout California and nationwide. Eligibility Specialist I:
The Eligibility Specialist I is the entry-level classification in the Eligibility Specialist series.  Incumbents may have prior experience determining eligibility for loans, financial assistance, unemployment or veterans benefits, or publicly or privately funded health, counseling or social services programs; have completed initial classroom training provided as part of the Eligibility Specialist Trainee training program; or may have the required level of education. Incumbents will be placed in a work team and initially may receive classroom instruction prior to being assigned casework and/or tasks. Incumbents will work under close supervision while learning to independently determine public assistance eligibility, and apply knowledge and skills learned from their training in completing eligibility tasks and applying complex regulations. The Air District is currently accepting applications for the position of Air Quality Specialist I/II in the Source Test Section. This is an open recruitment for one (1) full-time, represented position.

The Source Test Section performs source emission tests at regulated facilities for compliance determination, emission factor development, and information gathering. Facilities that are commonly tested include petroleum refineries, power plants, manufacturing facilities, wastewater treatment plants, landfills, and gasoline dispensing facilities. The section also provides regulatory oversight for facility continuous emission monitoring system (CEMS) operation, facility contracted source testing, and special testing or measurement projects. 

This role will be tasked with field, shop, and office source test program duties, including, but not limited to, equipment preparation/maintenance/repair, instrument and device calibration, inventory management, special project management, field testing, assembly/fabrication, records management, warehouse equipment operation, data reduction, and report preparation.

 The Accounting and General Services Specialist III position is in the Public Works Department. This position performs a variety of highly complex technical para-professional administrative duties in support of fiscal and accounting procedures, including budget preparation and auditing a variety of financial records under limited supervision. This position will require thorough knowledge of accounting terminology and procedures. The position is full-time, and scheduled for forty (40) hours per week. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Coordinates services and repairs with maintenance staff and/or vendors; conducts inspections, investigations, or interviews as needed to identify problems.
• Enters data into computer systems and maintains information systems database; enter data, processes transactions, assess and validates data, compiles documentation, examines, reconciles and adjusts financial records and reports.

The Climate Protection team works to:

The Senior Sustainability Specialist – Climate Action will:

• Lead the RICAPS Climate Collaborative to support San Mateo County cities in developing climate action plans and implementing coordinated initiatives to reduce emissions. This includes hosting and facilitating monthly Collaborative and working group meetings, providing direction to technical assistance partners, and guiding strategic planning for the Collaborative to strengthen collective action on climate solutions. 
• Foster peer learning, idea sharing, and problem solving among Collaborative participants, and lead pilots and collaborative implementation strategies, including joint grant applications.
• Serve on the leadership committee of the Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) quarterly regional forum. 
• Provide guidance and coordination with staff leading the San Mateo County Energy Watch, BayREN, and Peninsula Clean Energy programs to encourage municipalities to promote them to their community members. 
• Mentor junior team members to optimize implementation and coordination between programs to meet emissions targets, better serve community needs, and make strategic improvements to program delivery, meetings, reports, budgets, and presentations.

The ideal candidate will:

• Be an experienced project manager able to juggle multiple complex projects simultaneously, prioritizing efforts in alignment with established goals. 
• Build relationships and strategic partnerships with County-level staff, departments, agencies, and non-government organizations to help achieve local and regional climate action goals. Have a solid familiarity with a breadth of sustainability related topics, especially energy efficiency, decarbonization, and sustainable transportation, preferably in the local government context.

About the County  

The City of Berkeley is currently accepting applications for Hazardous Materials Specialist I or Hazardous Materials Specialist II in the Planning and Development Department’s Toxics Management Division (TMD). TMD serves as a California-Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) and is responsible for implementing, inspecting, and enforcing hazardous materials and environmental regulations on behalf of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), and the State Fire Marshal within the City of Berkeley. In addition to CUPA program implementation, TMD also leads stormwater pollution prevention programs and responds to environmental complaints to help protect public health and the environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities is:

Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in biology, physical or environmental science, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or a closely related field, or registration as an Environmental Health Specialist.

Hazardous Materials Specialist I

• In addition to the education requirement, some experience in hazardous materials management, environmental health inspections, industrial hygiene practices, or a similar hazardous materials program is desirable.

Hazardous Materials Specialist II

• In addition to the education requirement, two (2) years of experience in hazardous materials management, environmental health inspections, industrial hygiene practices, or a similar hazardous materials program.
• Possession of a Master’s degree in a qualifying field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.
• Must obtain and maintain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a California Underground Storage Tank (UST) Inspector.

Other requirements: Incumbents in both classifications must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, maintenance of a valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.

This position is based at the Columbia Neighborhood Center; remote work is not available.
