DEFINITION

Under general supervision, provide recreational and educational instruction and activities, social development, guidance and care for preschool and elementary age children by leading and assisting in the selection and coordination of a variety of activities and curriculum at a childcare site.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Child Care Lead Teacher is the lead teacher in the classroom.  Child Care Lead Teachers may also be asked to temporarily oversee a school site when a Site Coordinator is offsite.  If a situation arises where a Site Supervisor is unavailable for an extended period of time a Child Care Lead Teacher with a Site Supervisor Permit will be asked to act as a temporary Site Supervisor.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

General supervision is provided by the Child Care Site Coordinator. Child Care Lead Teacher  supervises the classrooms to which they are assigned, including Child Care Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers that are assigned to their programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Assist in the development of a diversified program of recreational games, sports, arts, crafts, and other activities for elementary school children.
• Assist in the development of a diversified preschool curriculum of music, science, math, dramatic play, social studies, literature, and recreational activities.
• Plan and lead a variety of activities appropriate to children of various age groups.
• Participate in and evaluate the effectiveness of activities and events.
• Instruct children in the safe and proper use of supplies and equipment. Instruct children in proper health and hygiene care.
• Assist in the selection and arrangement of field trips, special events and guest speakers.
• Assist with the preparation of site nutrition program.
• Assist with developing discipline techniques and maintaining acceptable classroom behavior from participants.
• Drive/Transport children using City of Pacifica City vans.
• Participate in cleaning and maintaining the facility and equipment.
• Inspect the site and equipment for potential safety hazards; take corrective action to prevent injuries.
• Assist in monitoring site supplies.
• Assist in recording numbers for attendance and nutrition reports. Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist Site Supervisors with the evaluation process for Childcare Aides, Associate Teachers, Teachers, and Full-time Teachers (I/II) that are assigned to their programs.
• Attend and participate in required in-service training activities.
• Assist Site Coordinator in preparing yearly State of California Desired Results reports, including managing children’s portfolios, and monitoring student progress by using Desired Results Developmental Profile and designated online educational platforms.

Summary
Under general supervision, performs a variety of journey-level skilled maintenance and limited construction of the District’s buildings, park amenities, playgrounds and community pools; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspects assigned facilities for deficiencies and safety-related issues.
• Performs rough and finish carpentry; installs and repairs fascia, siding, roof and wall members, cabinetry and office furniture, doors, jambs and hardware.          
• Performs minor to moderate roofing repairs using underlayment, sheet metal, tile and composite materials.
• Repairs and installs plumbing systems, which may include copper, galvanized steel, plastic or cast iron; installs, repairs, maintains and adjusts commercial plumbing fixtures.
• Performs electrical installation, repairs and maintenance such as indoor and outdoor light fixtures, new circuitry, contactors, ballasts/drivers, lighting control and fixture upgrades, sub-panels, sport lighting controls and facility lighting timers.
• From drawings, sketches or oral instructions, alters, repairs and constructs improvements in materials such as wood, metal, plastics, concrete and masonry.
• Designs and fabricates various parts from a variety of construction materials.
• Operates torch, plasma cutter, grinder and welding equipment to cut or join metal parts such as fences, gates, bollards and benches.
• Installs, maintains and repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment, as needed.
• Painting of interior and exterior surfaces.
• Repairs and installs various flooring materials.
• Inspects, maintains and repairs aquatic equipment including pool circulating and boost pumps, sensors, controllers, filters, boilers, chemical feed pumps and feed lines.
• Installs, maintains and repairs play structures, swings, electronic features and related equipment.
• Operates trucks, tractors and other special equipment, including aerial lift to heights of sixty feet.
• Weekend work and rotating schedules may be required.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• May be required to drive District or personal vehicle.
• Corrects damage from graffiti and vandalism.
• Cleans, maintains and repairs work tools.
• Purchases necessary materials for assigned tasks.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Non-exempt employees may be required to work overtime.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfac­torily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED equivalent and four years of related work experience performing building, facility and pool maintenance and repair, with a specialty in at least two building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and mainten­ance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and corres­pondence. Ability to speak effectively with other District employees, patrons and vendors.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates and Licenses: 

• Certified Pool Operator.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• All full-time candidates require satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Facilities Management Unit (Position Code 751) 
Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

Event Services Representatives assist in monitoring and providing customer/client support for special events. Event Services Representatives maybe required to provide technical assistance and set up of equipment on day of event, assist in resolving customer issues and complaints, and respond to emergency situations during events. The on-site Event Services Representative coordinates with event staff such as ushers, ticket takers, security, crowd control, outside contractors, and performs facility safety checks which may include enforcing Safety and Fire Marshall Regulations.  

Due to the nature of the job responsibilities, Event Services Representatives must be able to:  

• Work extended/irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. 

• Stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. 

• Lift and carry items weighing between 25 and 50 pounds on an as needed basis.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from Preschool Instructor(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, the preschool aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 2-5 years old in a range of classes from introductory drop-off preschool classes to Kindergarten preparedness preschool classes. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm. Approximately 20– 23 hours a week. Preschool aides must be willing and able to both take direction from the Preschool Instructor and work independently when fulfilling tasks. Substitute and on-call positions also available.

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.

Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks, Recreation Facilities Supervisor vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor classification is $112,563.36 - $137,220.72 annually.

This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The Parks, Recreation and Facilities Supervisor at  HHPZ plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises park operations (Parking, Admission, Membership, Guest Services, Food & Beverage, Entertainment, Celebrations, Admin services, Rides, Facility Maintenance, Park Maintenance), programs, budgeting, hiring, and contract management. 

The Parks, Recreation and Facilities Supervisor plays a critical role in developing the future strategic plan which includes managing facility improvement projects that support the mission of HHPZ. The Parks Facility Supervisor also supervises, trains, and evaluates park staff, including the Food & Beverage Supervisor and Amusement Park Supervisor and collaborates closely with the Zoo Manager and the Public Information Representative, under the guidance of the HHPZ Parks Manager. 

The desired candidate is a proven leader in recreation and amusement park management and will be a key champion for the goals and objective of the park, cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders, agencies and partner organizations. We are seeking someone with a strong comprehensive safety background, who can create and promote a work environment and culture that reflects Happy Hollow’s values and continually reviews and reinforces the mission and vision of Happy Hollow. The ideal candidate will accomplish this by mentoring, managing and providing inspired, forward-thinking leadership to park staff. 

The Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor must have the ability to constantly adjust to changing conditions and deal with a wide variety of customers, agencies, departments, classifications and personalities.  This position requires a person who is technically knowledgeable in a variety of subject areas.
