DEFINITION:

The City of Union City’s Community and Recreation Services Department is seeking passionate, motivated, and certified fitness professionals to join the Mark Green Sports Center (MGSC) team as Group Exercise Instructors and/or Personal Trainers. This position supports the City’s mission to promote health, wellness, and community engagement through high-quality fitness programs. Trainers and instructors work in a supportive, community-based environment — with no commission-based quotas or sales pressure. Instead, our Fitness Coordinator assists in client promotion, class opportunities, and professional growth through internal referrals and member engagement. Group Exercise Instructors may join our substitute roster and may be assigned to teach classes aligned with their certification and experience as openings arise.

The Position

The Community Services Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of direct coordination and supervision of one or more significant program areas within one of the Community Services Division’s major program Sections, and for assisting the Community Services Section Manager with the overall direction and supervision of the Section. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel and volunteers
• Coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate recreation and human services activities as assigned
• Organize and schedule Citywide activities in assigned area of responsibility
• Prepare events’ publicity, including flyers and news releases
• Maintain close contact with school officials, community groups and citizens regarding program implementation
• Perform a variety of office related functions, including the processing of payroll data, registration fees, activity reports, and related records
• Assist in preparing and administering the program budget
• Coordinate and supervise contracts for specialized contractual services
• Participate in teaching recreation classes
• Organize, coordinate, and encourage the formation of clubs, teams, leagues, special events, and specialized programs and services
• Arrange for, and schedule, facilities, transportation, and appropriate activity supervision
• Direct facility operations, including responsibility for the use and maintenance of the facilities.

The Community Services Supervisor receives general supervision from the Community Services Section Manager or other higher level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over full-time and part-time employees, volunteers, clerical, and custodial personnel.

Individuals must be able to officiate and control games, events, and competitions in a confident, appropriate manner. Ensure all participants understand and comply with game rules and assess penalties when needed. Make game calls with confidence and knowledge of league rules. Keep track of event start times, and start or stop play as necessary. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES:

• Assist in ensuring that each day is well organized prior to the start time.
• Communicate with parents and players.
• Assist in ensuring that all games begin and end on time.
• Set up and clean up all equipment at the end of games and make sure it is placed in its proper location.
• Ensure that all instructions are carried with honesty, care, respect, and responsibility.

DEFINITION:

The Music Instructor is responsible for providing quality music instruction to participants of varying skill levels in a positive and engaging environment. This position requires strong knowledge of music techniques and the ability to plan and deliver lessons that meet individual participants’ needs. The instructor will plan, prepare, and implement music lessons tailored to each participant’s abilities and goals, teaching music theory, aural skills, and practical techniques to individuals and groups. They will also prepare participants for performances or showcases as part of the program, select and acquire appropriate teaching materials and resources, and motivate participants to achieve continuous progress. In addition, the Music Instructor will communicate effectively with recreation staff and parents/caregivers regarding schedules, progress, and participant needs, assess participants’ abilities, provide constructive feedback, and maintain progress records. Delivering excellent customer service and representing the City in a professional and positive manner are essential aspects of this role. The ideal candidate will be patient, enthusiastic, and dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment where participants can grow both musically and personally.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This position requires the ability to work independently while receiving direction from a supervisor, as well as the capacity to train, oversee, and collaborate effectively with volunteers and older adults. Strong attention to detail is essential, including the ability to maintain accurate records and submit documentation as required. Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Upon hire, the candidate must successfully obtain a State Food Handler Safety Certificate and pass all required background checks. A bilingual pay differential may be available for candidates fluent in identified languages.  Must be available Monday-Friday 10:00am-2:00pm.

Recreation Program Specialist Example Duties:

• Follow reservation protocol/procedure for patrons.
• Review menu provided by caterer, submit nutritional component breakdown to County for grant compliance, and prepare flyers for patron.
• Submit documentation/information associated with County nutrition grant to supervisor.
• Schedule and implement nutritional education for seniors and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison with caterer, grant provider and staff/volunteers.
• Implement food safety practices as outlined by the Health Department.
• Prior nutrition experience is desired, but not required. Training will be provided.

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to one (1) part-time position for Pool Manager with the Recreation & Community Services Department for their Summer program and to establish an Eligibility List. Under the supervision of the Recreation and Community Services Director and the Recreation Coordinator, the Pool Manager will be responsible for the operations of the pool. The Pool Manager will be expected to schedule Lifeguards to work as well as oversee the Lifeguards. The Pool Managers are to teach Lifeguards the pool policies and to assist any Lifeguard in decisions made at the pool. The Pool Manager must also be able to resolve confrontations from citizens if not to direct them to the next person in the chain of command. Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is established for 28 hours a week, but will vary depending on programming needs, and will be working weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The City of Patterson is seeking to fill one (1) part-time Recreation Leader position in the Recreation Department for their Senior Program and to establish an eligibility list.  Duties include, but are not limited to: under supervision, works with staff to provide programs and activities for Seniors; organizes and teaches participants games and activities such as dance, music, arts & crafts, etc. and with assistance, coordinate, schedule, and plan the programs; ensures participant safety and well being during all activities; ensures the proper handling of first aid and emergency situations.
