One Traffic Engineer position will manage, coordinate, and oversee the City’s Traffic Calming Program. Key responsibilities include working with residents on traffic calming requests, collecting and analyzing traffic data, conducting public outreach, developing and implementing traffic calming measures to address community concerns, conducting after studies, and preparing recommendations for City Council consideration. This position will also manage the traffic issue request queue for all types of requests, working with the rest of the division on evaluations, resolutions, and responses to the requests.  This position may also perform other duties as assigned.

A second Traffic Engineer position will help manage, coordinate and oversee large transportation infrastructure projects from planning through construction. This position will support our Transportation Special Projects team, working closely with a Principal Transportation Engineer and a Senior Traffic Engineer primarily on the delivery of large-scale transportation infrastructure projects for the City. Responsibilities include advancing projects through various stages of development and implementation, representing the City in coordination with stakeholders and partner agencies, applying for and managing grant funding related to the projects, overseeing consultant teams, reviewing technical plans, specifications and reports, conducting public outreach; providing traffic related technical support to other Public Works divisions, and performing other duties as assigned.

Under the supervision and general direction of the District Engineer, this student engineering position  performs a variety of basic technical civil engineering duties such as mapping, data entry, review of residential and commercial developments, and supporting capital projects. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Engineer with project management, plan review, fee calculations, permit issuance, maintaining engineering records, conducting field surveys, site inspections, and data analysis. Responsibilities also include assisting the Engineering Technician in GIS and AutoCAD related projects as needed.

Other related duties may be assigned as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Engineering Intern is a part-time hourly/non-exempt position that performs varied tasks and assists the Engineering Team with applied research, inspections, and administrative support functions as part of the learning experience in conjunction with educational coursework leading to an advanced degree in Engineering.

Examples of Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs general GIS/AutoCAD map updates and modifications including the collection of GPS data points.
• Performs supervised plan checks on new development, capital projects, remodels, and tenant improvements for compliance with State laws and Regulations and modern construction techniques.
• Confers with property owners and contractors to explain requirements and to induce compliance to Regulations.
• Maintains electronic and paper records of changes of plans and specifications, manages the data necessary for establishing sewer connection permits and changes and maintains related records.
• Performs basic drafting work, laying out and correcting of maps, plans and diagrams.
• Prepares reports, spreadsheets, databases, graphs, tables, and other supporting project related documentation, records, and notes. 
• Assists District Engineer with the management and successful completion of Capital Improvement projects, Recycled Water projects, Flow Equalization land development and consolidation efforts;
• Assist homeowners and developers in the administration and calculation of reimbursement agreements and annexation into the main sewer line system.
• Assists with the review of plans and specifications for a variety of engineering related projects and initiatives.
• Assists with creating, maintaining, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for computer operations related to functional areas of operations.
• Provide general and specific information to developers, contractors, design consultants, the public, and staff on specifications, ordinances, and policies.
• Performs varied mathematical computations.
• Ensures safety and health procedures and precautions are adhered to, corrects unsafe work conditions/practices and/or reports unsafe work conditions/practices to assigned supervisory or managerial staff.

VTA’s Engineering and Program Delivery Division is seeking a seasoned professional with strong project delivery experience and a specialized focus in environmental engineering to serve as a Senior Environmental Engineer.

The Senior Environmental Engineer is expected to manage, mentor and train team members that supports delivery of projects with regards to environmental assessment/survey, hazardous material investigation, abatement of VTA acquired properties, remediation of soil and groundwater at VTA facilities and construction sites, noise and vibration monitoring, design of remediation system, preparation of site management plan, and facility closure application. 

Engineering and Program Delivery Division
The Engineering and Program Delivery  (EPD) division is responsible for the design and construction of all capital projects and infrastructure required to provide a safe, reliable and efficient transportation system for Santa Clara County. These responsibilities include program and project management, design development, engineering management, project controls, construction management and turnover of various projects that are part of VTA's rail, facilities and highway transportation improvement programs.

This division is also responsible for the implementation of the projects identified in the 2000 Measure A Program, which includes the planning, design, and construction of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART Silicon Valley) Project. This project will extend the BART regional heavy rail system to Milpitas, San Jose and Santa Clara. 

Transit Engineering Department
The Transit Engineering Department is responsible to deliver capital transit and facility projects located throughout the VTA service area. This group provides program management services for this transit and facility program by leading capital projects from engineering through construction and turnover.  With close coordination with VTA Operations and local jurisdictions, these projects include a variety of pedestrian, bus, light rail and commuter rail improvements.  Projects managed by this group also include important capital improvements for facility projects at the light rail and bus operations and maintenance facilities. The transit and facility projects include a variety of purposes ranging from rehabilitation to sustain a state of good repair to expansion of the existing infrastructure to increase bus or light rail service. This group also performs modification to the system to increase operational efficiency and flexibility and implements safety and security projects to improve the protection of the community and our riders.

What You will Be Doing:
Definition
Under general direction, a Senior Environmental Engineer supervises and performs highly responsible professional engineering in the analysis, design, implementation, operation, monitoring and reporting of hazardous materials remedial action systems either directly or through subordinate staff or consultants.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is responsible for managing all issues associated with regulatory determinations, site investigations, remedial recommendations and civil/hazmat contractor coordination for all hazardous material related issues encountered in property acquisitions, light rail construction, highway program liaison, and facility improvement construction activities for VTA.
 

Typical Tasks

• Performs program management for hazardous materials remediation projects;
• Directs engineers and other professionals involved in the remediation activities of VTA facilities, construction projects and real estate transactions;
• Processes requests for hazardous material investigations, develops scope of work for investigation, assigns work to a consultant, arranges for site walkthrough/inspections;
• Meets with Program and Construction Managers to provide status reports;
• Manages the work of environmental consultants and environmental hazardous materials contractors;
• Maintains records of remedial action systems;
• Performs due diligence investigations for property acquisitions for VTA capital projects;
• Performs groundwater monitoring and remedial activities at VTA maintenance facilities;
• Provides oversight of the VTA Highway Program relating to hazardous materials investigations;
• Keeps abreast of Federal, State, and local regulations and programs, and adheres to reporting requirements of regulatory agencies;
• Evaluates permit requirements and develops methods of compliance;
• Conducts and supervises environmental compliance audits;
• Performs related duties as required.

Knowledge of:

Minimum Qualifications:
Training, education and experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Civil, Chemical, Biochemical, Geotechnical, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or a related field and six (6) years of increasingly responsible professional environmental engineering work including experience supervising or leading professional engineers or consultants.

Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California in Civil, Chemical, Biochemical, Geotechnical, Mechanic, or Industrial Engineering or a related field at the time of appointment is required.

The ability to obtain and maintain a Hazardous Materials training certificate issued by the State of California.

This is a full-time, on-site position, designed for direct collaboration with the team and active participation in daily operations.

This position works varied hours/shifts/days of the week to meet the code enforcement needs of the agency. The regular work schedule may include varied days of the week, including weekends, and work hours (days/swings to 2 a.m.) and overtime availability is required often in the evenings (to include late night hours such as 2 a.m.) or on the weekends for targeted enforcement.

The goal of the Fire Inspector Trainee position is to increase the number and diversity of qualified prospects for the position of Fire Inspector. 

Training and opportunity to obtain Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D Certificates, Hazardous Materials First Responder Awareness Training, complete the SFM Task Book for Fire Inspector 1 and obtain an Inspector I Certificate from ICC in conjunction with on-the-job training.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Engineering and Transportation Department announces an opportunity for the position of SUPERVISING CIVIL ENGINEER.  The Supervising Civil Engineer works under general direction of the Engineering and Transportation Director/City Engineer.  This position is responsible for planning and overseeing the work of the Capital Improvement Program (utilities, parks/special projects for building facilities, and creek/channel/levee improvements) and inspection services and supervising and participating in design, construction, and support services.  In addition, the Supervising Civil Engineer provides technical staff assistance in the review of agreements and other engineering functions.  The Supervising Civil Engineer may be required to fulfill the duties of the City Engineer, in the City Engineer’s absence.
