The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic candidates to work as Magical Bridge Playground Attendants at Red Morton Park. Magical Bridge Playground is open seven (7) days a week, Monday through Sunday, from 9am – 5pm at the time of this job posting.  Operational hours will change after daylight savings time. Typical shifts are 4-5 hours a day and can extend past closing time depending on playground monitoring needs. This position will report to a Recreation Coordinator. 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Unlock and secure playground based on operational hours.
• Perform safety sweeps before opening and after closing to ensure Playground is free of debris and hazards.
• Count and monitor maximum capacity of Playground.
• Welcome visitors to the Magical Bridge Playground.
• Remind visitors upon entry of COVID-19 safety protocols (to wear a mask, social distance, wash hands, etc.) and monitor to ensure compliance.
• Describe and actively monitor rules of the Playground:
  • 30-minute rotation of visitors if lines form
  • No food/drinks allowed
  • Shoes must be worn at all times, etc.
• Provide directions, help, and reminders to Playground visitors throughout shift.
• Use and secure all radios, iPads, and supplies needed for a successful shift.
• Assist with other programs within the Parks & Recreation Department as needed.

The City of Redwood City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services (PRCS) Department is looking for people interested in working approximately 15-20 hours per week, working the special events programs operated by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department.  Incumbents will typically assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events all while providing excellent customer service to visitors.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Follow event plan and execute assigned duties effectively and efficiently; monitor or manage interactive recreation areas which may include, but are not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, sports, drama, social recreation, and music/singing activities; supervise recreation participants insuring that proper safety precautions are observed in assigned activities; maintain and care for equipment as appropriate to help promote recreation activities effectively; assist in organizing, promoting, and managing special events; assist in setting up, monitoring, and breaking down the events; report to supervisors orally and in writing; complete assigned paperwork such as timecards, attendance reports and/or incident and accident reports; perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT I

This is a temporary part-time position:  Approximately 20-40 hours per week depending on the needs of the department.

Salary:             $18.76 – $21.42 hourly (depending on experience)

Hours:             Variable days, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans
• Removing weeds and trash from parks
• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Support to irrigation or watering functions
• Trenching

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.
