Part-Time Winter Basketball League Positions

Are you looking for a fun, part-time job where you can stay active, work with kids, and be part of the community? The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is hiring Sports Program Assistants for the upcoming Orinda Youth Sports (OYS) Winter Basketball League!

Season Dates: Saturdays only, January 20 – March 14 (no games Feb. 14)
Shifts: 6 hours (8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.)
Pay: $16.50 – $24.50/hour (depending on experience and role)

What You’ll Do

• Help set up and take down basketball equipment

• Supervise the gym and keep things running smoothly

• Run the scoreboard/score clock

• Be a positive role model for young athletes

(And yes—there will be chances for more work in the spring leagues and summer camps!)

About the Opportunity

The City of Millbrae is looking for a full-time Deputy Finance Director based in Millbrae, California.

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Finance Department and supporting citywide financial initiatives.

More About You

Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field.

Experience: At least 5 years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, including 3+ years in a supervisory or management capacity.

THE POSITION

Under the general direction of the Administrative Services Director, the Assistant Administrative Services Director is responsible for overseeing the Finance Division with 10 full-time staff and supporting citywide fiscal and budget operations. This role involves high-level coordination, analysis, and liaison work across City departments, divisions, and external agencies. This position requires deep expertise in financial management, public policy, and municipal operations, including knowledge of the roles of the City Council and the Finance and Audit Commission, exercising independent judgment in policy development and fiscal oversight. The Assistant Director’s daily duties include general accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and business licensing, as well as long-term fiscal planning. This role is instrumental in achieving departmental and citywide goals, improving resource efficiency, and delivering high-quality customer service. Primary duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Planning, managing, and overseeing the daily functions, operations, and activities of the Finance Division; areas of responsibility include general accounting, budget, payroll, treasury, business license, tax and revenue collection, and financial reporting.
• Directing and participating in the development of the City-wide operating and capital budget; working with departments to provide data and support for their budget development; monitoring departmental budget performance and making recommendations for adjustments as needed; and conducting ongoing analysis of the City's financial condition, reporting to, and advising, executive management on fiscal matters.
• Directing the preparation of, and participating in developing fiscal reports including monthly, quarterly and annual reports as well as the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), ensuring adherence to mandated rules, regulations and professional standards.
• Preparing and updating the five-year financial forecast and other long-term projections and plans.
• Participating in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the division; recommending appropriate service and staffing levels; recommending and administering policies and procedures.
• Developing and standardizing procedures and methods to improve and continuously monitoring the efficiency and effectiveness of assigned programs, servicing delivery methods, and procedures; assessing and monitoring workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending to management.
• Participating in the selection of, training, motivating, and evaluating assigned personnel; providing or coordinating staff training; working with employees on performance issues; implementing discipline and termination procedures.
• Developing and implementing adopted finance and budget services strategic plans, policies, and standards.
• Establishing and maintaining internal control procedures and ensuring that state and national standard accounting procedures are maintained.
• Communicating complex financial data in a clear, concise manner to a variety of internal and external audiences.
• Overseeing the treasury function, including managing the City’s investment portfolio, ensuring availability of City funds, and preparing investment reports with consultant assistance.
• Overseeing the City’s debt issuance and management policy.
• Overseeing the development of consultant requests for proposals and qualifications for professional services; evaluating proposals and recommending project award; developing, negotiating, and reviewing contract terms and amendments; ensuring contractor compliance with City and department standards and specifications and time and budget estimates; analyzing and resolving complex problems that may arise.
• Providing highly complex staff assistance to the Administrative Services Director; conducting a variety of organizational and operational studies, special projects, and investigations; preparing and presenting staff reports and other necessary correspondence related to assigned activities and services; presenting reports to various commissions, committees, and boards.
• Attending and participating in professional group meetings; staying abreast of new trends and innovations in the financial field; monitoring changes in regulations that may affect business systems operations; implementing policy and procedural changes after approval.
• Receiving, investigating, and responding to difficult and sensitive problems and inquiring in a professional manner; identifying and reporting findings and taking necessary corrective action.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

The Position

The City of Fremont's Human Services Department is seeking temporary employees to work evening shifts, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. during winter months (approximately October 13, 2025, through April 30, 2026). This position plays a vital role in supporting the temporary Winter Relief emergency shelter program, which provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

Winter Relief Monitors will work under the direction of a Senior Program Coordinator and be responsible for up to 20 hours of work per week.

Training will include topics including harm reduction, de-escalation, Critical Time Intervention (CTI), and local community-based resources.

Examples of Duties

• Foster a supportive and respectful environment through empathetic communication, addressing emotional challenges that may arise during participant transitions.
• Enforce program rules to maintain a safe environment by providing verbal warnings and educational support to promote understanding and voluntary compliance.
• Respond promptly to emergencies by assessing situations, contacting emergency services (e.g., 911), and communicating with property staff and public safety personnel.
• Operate a City of Fremont vehicle as required.
• Conduct daily room visits, distribute meals and supplies, and engage with participants to build rapport and understand individual needs.
• Collaborate in weekly team meetings for case consultation, providing input and developing strategies to support participants’ connections to community resources.
• Maintain accurate records, including daily sign-in sheets, incident reports, and documentation of on-site activities.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

The Public Works Department
The Public Works Department consists of Design Engineering, Development Engineering, Construction, Civic Facilities, Transportation, Survey, and Real Property sections. The department reviews all proposed land development projects in the City and executes the design and construction of public projects such as streets, parks, and public buildings.

The City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) is seeking up to one full-time Transportation Program Specialist I/II to perform a variety of program administrative and technical support functions related to C/CAG transportation and land use programs.

Transportation Program Specialist I is the entry and trainee level class, which works under immediate supervision while learning job tasks.  Incumbents may be assigned to a specific area or may work in multiple areas.  As experience is gained, incumbents work with greater independence and are given more responsible assignments.  Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for conformance with established procedures.

Transportation Program Specialist II is the fully experienced, journey level class, which works under general direction.  This level is capable of independently performing the full range of duties in one or several specialized areas and is expected to serve as subject matter expert in assigned duty areas.

For this position, variety and complexity of assignments, scope and complexity of transportation planning responsibility, independence of action and level of decision-making authority, level and variety of work contacts, degree of administrative responsibilities, and responsibility for program and policy implementation are expected to expand with experience.
 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Manage the process for development of the annual C/CAG budget, including development of the budget calendar and working with the appropriate members of C/CAG staff to provide financial updates and forecast information. 
• Manage the mid-year budget update and any required budgetary updates throughout the year. 
• Review monthly financial information provided by San Carlos to identify and address any issues that arise.
• Submit audits to appropriate agencies and annual reports to the State Controller’s office and other relevant agencies.  
• Serve as the point of contact with San Carlos for any issues that arise related to their contract work with C/CAG, including month-end/year-end close, submittal of audit documents, and production of the financial statements. 
• Develop financial forecasts and review and produce revenue projections for C/CAG funding sources to identify vulnerabilities and potential solutions. 
• Provide strategic analysis of issues that affect C/CAG’s financial stability, such as revenue sensitivity, pension and OPEB funding, and member contribution rates. 
• Serve as the liaison to the Finance Committee and be the primary point of contact. 
• Manage the annual process to submit the indirect cost rate application to Caltrans and secure approval. 
• Review the quarterly investment reports, summarize, and prepare updates for the Finance Committee.
• Assist with the development and implementation of transportation plans, policies, programs, and projects; and the linkage of transportation and land use.
• Coordinate with C/CAG partner agencies on reports, joint studies, and projects.
• Assist with preparing, updating, and administering of planning documents, grants, funding recommendations, and projects.
• Act as liaison and participate on a variety of local and regional committees/task forces related to transportation, housing, and/or land use planning.
• Maintain contract agreements, review invoices, and track budget for C/CAG projects.
• Track and analyze proposed policies from other government agencies and legislations related to transportation and housing.
• Coordinate the development of State and Federal transportation improvement plans and programs at a county level.
• Oversee request for proposal (RFP) processes.
• Monitor the regional transportation planning and delivery process for conformance with State and Federal requirements.
• Establish, maintain, purge and run reports on various office files including minutes from public or private meetings and hearings.
• Draft documents such as C/CAG Board Resolutions, Board and committee staff reports, consultant contracts and agreements, and RFPs.
• Staff various committee meetings including coordinating the distribution of agenda packets and preparation of minutes.
• Set up meetings, coordinate attendee calendars, make reservations and set up meeting rooms.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

• Two or more years of professional experience directly in transportation and/or land use planning.
• Self-starter who has demonstrated the ability to independently perform the full scope of duties required.
• Familiar with making presentations and recommendations to governmental agency boards, commissions, and committees.
• Familiar with public outreach and engagement processes or gathering input from the public.

Salary Information: 
C/CAG Transportation Programs Specialist I:  $85,488.00- $106,870.40 Annually
C/CAG Transportation Programs Specialist II:  $100,380.80- $125,403.20 Annually

Note: This is an unclassified, at-will position allocated to C/CAG.  Unclassified positions are not covered by the County of San Mateo Civil Service Rules.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
 

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, City Planning or Regional Planning, or related field such as Urban or Regional Studies, Public Policy, Public Administration, Environmental Policy or Studies, Geography, Sociology, Economics, Civil Engineering, or Political Science.

Anyone may apply.  Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, or extra-help/limited term position prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions (weight: pass/fail). Candidates who pass the application screening may be invited to a panel interview (weight:100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
