THE DISTRICT

The San Rafael Sanitation District is committed to protecting public health and the environment by providing safe, reliable, and cost-effective wastewater collection and conveyance services.  Serving residents and businesses in the San Rafael area, the District maintains and improves vital sewer infrastructure including pipelines, pump stations, and treatment connections to support a clean and sustainable community.  

As a sewer collection agency, the District maintains 33 pump stations, 13 miles of force main, and 132 miles of gravity sewer pipeline.  Each y ear the District replaces over 2.5 miles of gravity sewer as part of the annual CIP project.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The San Rafael Sanitation District is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Construction Inspector to help ensure the quality and safety of our vital sewer infrastructure.  As a Construction Inspector, you'll perform field inspections on sewer system projects including pipelines, pump stations, and other capital improvements to verify compliance with plans, specifications, and District regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to - view the full job spec HERE)

• Performs field inspection of contract work and ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and enforcement of SRSD regulations on various sewer facilities projects such as, but not limited to, construction and rehabilitation of sewer pipe improvements, pumping stations, and other maintenance and capital improvement projects.
• Performs construction related inspection, which includes installation and compaction of pipe, erosion, checking construction work against specifications and drawings, monitoring traffic flow, and checking existing facilities.
• Reviews drawings, maps, plans, and specifications for maintenance projects, capital improvement projects, and private projects.
• Performs field inspection of lateral connection and tests.
• Recommends field changes on construction work.
• Assists in preparation of progress payments.
• Prepares and maintains necessary records and reports.
• Performs field measurements, calculations, and sketches.
• Assists in the design of plans and specifications.
• Prepares "As Built" plans for construction activities.
• Assists in the updates and maintaining databases; performs field work in order to check discrepancies in computer data, and document existing conditions.
• Performs survey and layout for construction projects.
• Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE  

• Equivalent to AA degree with specialization in civil engineering or construction management (additional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis up to a total of two years) AND 
• Two (2) years of responsible engineering inspection or administrative construction experience is required.  Municipal sewer inspection experience is highly desirable.
• Valid California Driver's License

What You’ll Do

The Assistant Planner/Associate Planner performs professional level work in the field of current planning and/or advance planning to promote the City’s Mission and Values. The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience.

Assistant Planner - is the entry level class in the professional planning series and is distinguished from the Associate Planner by the performance of less complex tasks and duties in the fields of current or advance planning, which require the application of fundamental planning principles. Assignments are generally limited in scope and within the design and procedural framework established by higher level employees. However, as experience is acquired, the employee performs with increasing independence. Since this class is typically used as a continued training class, employees may have only limited work experience.

Associate Planner - is the journey level class in the professional planning series and employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Planner by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, which require the application of professional knowledge and skills to various municipal planning, zoning, and environmental problems and the preparation of specific reports and plans. The position provides opportunity for independent judgment in planning work details and making technical determinations. Work in this class is distinguished from that of Assistant Planner by the greater complexity of assignments including preparing zoning code and general plan amendment studies, and by the greater independence with which the incumbent is expected to operate. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Assistant Planner or, when filled from the outside, require prior professional planning work experience.

The Assistant Planner receives general supervision from a Senior Planner or higher level department personnel. Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill 2 full-time Maintenance Worker I vacancies in the Parks Division.

The salary range for this classification is: $68,473.60 - $83,304.00

Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

This is the journey-level class in the Maintenance Worker classification series responsible for performing the full range of semi-skilled tasks for assigned maintenance operations and programs. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II in that the latter class performs the more complex work assigned to the series.

 

Some assignments require candidates to be willing and able to work weekends, holidays and/or other shifts as needed.

Duties of the Maintenance Worker I position include, but are not limited to:

• Maintaining park grounds which may include, but is not limited to: irrigation, cultivation, pruning, planting, and transplanting a variety of turf, shrubs, trees, and plants. 

• Operating mowing equipment in parks and athletic fields and operating triplex gang/rotary mowers, power edgers, tractors, rototillers, sprayers, dump and other trucks, power chain saws and other light power equipment and hand tools used in grounds and maintenance work. 

• Applying fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and fertilizers. 

• Maintaining and making minor repairs to playgrounds, picnic areas, athletic fields and sport courts, park trails, and firebreaks as well as make minor repairs and adjustments to irrigation systems, mowers, and miscellaneous equipment. 

• Performing clean-up and litter pick-up functions, cleaning pools and fountains, scheduling automatic irrigation controllers, maintaining work-related records, and preparing corresponding reports. 

• Explaining programs and policies to the public, providing lead guidance to less experienced workers, assisting in firefighting and rescue duties in wilderness park areas, and may be responsible for vehicle and pedestrian traffic safety in work areas. 

• Must be willing and able to lead various unpaid labor and volunteer participants.

INTERNSHIP LOCATION STATUS:
This internship position will require the selected candidate to report on-site 100% of the time, adhering to strict safety protocols. Interns will be placed at one of three locations, the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, the Rinconada Water Treatment Plant, or the Santa Teresa Water Treatment Plant.

 

Required License or Certificate WE LOOK FOR INTERNS WHO:

• Currently enrolled in or completed an Engineering, Science, or Water Related Program in the last six (6) months.
• Pursuing state certification to be an operator at a Drinking Water Treatment Facility or an Advanced Water Treatment Facility. (PLEASE NOTE: high school graduates are automatically qualified to take the entry level Grade T1 state exam and obtain their certification right away)
• Community service and safety orientation.
• Curious and mechanically inclined.
• Able to do shift work.

AS AN INTERN, A TYPICAL DAY INCLUDES:

• 5 am start, shift pass down.
• Learning safe work practices.
• Training with a certified water plant operator to perform plant rounds and associated duties.
• Performing basic water sampling and analysis.
• Perform cleaning e.g., hosing down basins, sweeping, organizing, general housekeeping.
• Learning to monitor water plant through SCADA computer system.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you must:

• Be currently enrolled in or have completed in the last six months: Engineering, Science, or Water Related Program.
• Be able to commit at least 15-20 hours a week. (We can work around your school schedule.)
• Live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location by their start date.

The City of Dixon Fire Department is recruiting to fill current Firefighter/Paramedic vacancies as soon as possible and to establish an eligibility for future needs. To be considered eligible for this hiring and eligibility list, you must meet the following criteria:

• Pass the Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Entry Level Firefighter Written Exam and be placed on the FCTC Statewide Eligibility List.
• Possess a current, valid Cal-JAC CPAT Card issued within the last 12 months from date of application submission and ability to pass the City of Dixon's aerial ladder agility test.
• Possess a valid Firefighter 1 Academy certificate or California State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 Certificate.
• Possess a current, valid California or National Registry Paramedic certification (note: persons possessing a National Registry Certification will be required to register as a California Paramedic prior to appointment).
• Valid California Class “C” Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Note: A DMV driving record will also be required to be submitted with your application.

The Dixon Fire Department offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a career in fire safety.  The position performs fire prevention activities to save lives and property; responds to hazardous material incidents; responds to all fire alarms with designated company; prepares and operates the necessary equipment at the scene of the fire such as a hose, ladders, chemicals, bars, hooks, etc.; administers first aid to injured patrons; performs other acts required of a Firefighter at the scene of an emergency; carries out all duties assigned by Superior Officers.  Work involves irregular hours during the day and evenings, and on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

A valid California driving record (within 6 months) this will not be uploaded to FCTC. (Attach DMV Printout obtained from an official California DMV Office - www.DMV.ca.gov).   The online Driver Record is not an official document, but the City will accept either this or an official copy. The City will also accept an out of state/country DMV record. However, you will need to obtain a California State Driver’s License within 30 days of appointment.

The City of Dixon is looking to fill one full-time, regular position of Accountant in the Finance Department. This position performs professional level accounting functions such as recording and reporting financial transactions, review of financial records; provides fiscal control for assigned areas of operation, preparation of financial report statements and analyzes. This is not a remote position and work schedule will be Monday through Friday, onsite.

Accountant - This classification is the entry level, mid-management position in the accounting series. Professional level work is performed, and incumbents are expected to perform the full range of accounting duties with minimal supervision. Successful performance in this position requires a thorough knowledge of governmental accounting procedures and the ability to exercise sound judgement within established guidelines.
