The Position

What You’ll Do

The Librarian I/II performs a variety of professional librarian duties in the activities of the library including reference, cataloging, interlibrary loans, collection development, programming and outreach for children's or adult services; and other related work as required. The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience. Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

• Advise and assist library patrons; demonstrate the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; refer patrons to other appropriate agencies if appropriate.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services in such areas as children, adult, and others using various themes and technologies; recommend program and procedure changes.
• Perform outreach to the community, community organizations, and schools within established design and framework.
• Serve on materials selection committee for the library; select and deselect materials for assigned area; evaluate and remove materials from the collection.
• Serve at a reference desk; research and respond to difficult or technical reference questions.
• Attend and represent the library at professional meetings as required.
• Supervise and train assigned staff.
• Compile library activity reports and statistics related to assignment.
• Participate in department meetings and continuing education programs as appropriate.
• Respond to citizen complaints and requests.
• Design and implement special ongoing programs, services and events.
• Assist in preparing and monitoring budget and grant programs.
• Develop, implement, and monitor training programs.
• Design and analyze statistical reports.
• Administer grant projects.

The Librarian I/II receives direction from the Supervising Librarian overseeing the division or other higher level personnel. The Librarian II may exercise functional and technical supervision over lower-level library personnel.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer.  CPAT must be current.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.  Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

• Basic life support

• Act in accordance with departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the field of firefighting.

The Community Services Manager for Human Services is responsible for managing the Fair Oaks Community Center (FOCC) and administering a number of financial assistance programs for local residents, as well as basic emergency and safety net services such as food, transportation, shelter referrals, housing assistance, and client advocacy. FOCC serves as one of eight core agencies in San Mateo County who work in close collaboration with the County Human Services Agency to provide vulnerable individuals and families in Redwood City and North Fair Oaks with much needed support to stabilize their living situations through a robust Information and Referral program. FOCC also serves as a designated entry point for the Coordinated Entry System for people experiencing homelessness in San Mateo County to access shelter and other resources.

The Community Services Manager for Human Services also oversees more traditional community center functions, providing room rentals for private events as well as free meeting space for nonprofits and community-based organizations. The Community Services Manager supports and interacts with a significant number of partner agencies who deliver services through FOCC. The facility includes both an Older Adult Activity Center run independently by Peninsula Family Services and a Child Care and Early Development Program. Other services delivered on site by partners include immigration and citizenship services, ESL classes, tenants’ rights clinics, mobile shower and laundry services, a mobile health van, and more. The Community Services Manager negotiates, prepares, manages, and monitors contracts and agreements with service providers and community agencies, ensuring effective program delivery and inter-agency coordination.  

This position also provides leadership to inter-departmental and inter-agency collaborative projects including the OYE Latinx Youth Conference, the Redwood City/San Mateo County Toy and Book Program, the bi-annual San Mateo County Homeless One Day Count, and other critical community projects as they arise.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Town of Atherton invites you to apply for the position of Associate Engineer in the Public Works Department. The position, general supervision, performs various professional field and office engineering work related to the management, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the Town’s public works infrastructure, associated with the Capital Improvement Program (CIP); provides project management oversight, coordination and administration; conducts development plan reviews and inspections; confers with developers, contractors, and representatives of other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development and maintenance; administers professional services and construction contracts; provides professional staff assistance to the Director of Public Works, other departments, and the public in areas of expertise; performs a variety of studies and prepares and presents staff reports; and assist in the development of the Department budget and monitors revenue and expense budgets on an ongoing basis.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Plans, manages, designs, and inspects all phases of civil engineering public works construction projects, including defining the scope of the project; coordinating with permitting and public utility agencies; applying engineering principles and practices to specific problems; coordinating construction schedules with other projects and agencies; preparing and reviewing cost estimates; and inspecting construction of projects to ensure compliance with construction documents; performs related planning and design work.
• Review of proposed private development projects; including issues related to public works, hydrology, grading, scheduling, traffic control, and erosion; prepares public works conditions of approval for proposed development.
• Reviews construction plans prepared by consulting engineers and private contractors; checks plans for conformance with regulations; reviews engineering calculations; participates in pre-design, construction, and coordination meetings and issues construction permits.
• Develops consultant requests for proposal for professional and/or construction services and the advertising and bid processes; evaluates proposals and recommends project award; administers contracts after award; ensures contractor compliance with Town standards and specifications, time and budget estimates; analyzes and resolves complex problems that may arise; recommends and approves field changes as required.
• Monitors and pursues grant opportunities for improvements in public works programs.
• Participates in the development of the Town’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
• Participates in the San Mateo County Cleanwater Program and assists with compliance and reporting associated with the Municipal Regional (NPDES) Stormwater Permit.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a related engineering field.

Certification: Posses and maintain a valid certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California.

Knowledge of:

• Civil engineering principles, techniques, policies, and procedures,
• Principles and practices of capital improvement program budgeting, cost estimation, funding, project management, and contract administration,
• Basic principles, practices, procedures, and standards related to Town public works infrastructure development and maintenance, engineering, and surveying
• Practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective staff reports

Skills and Ability to:

• Prepare, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Assist in and develop and administer contracts for professional services and construction in a public agency setting.
• Effectively represent the department and the Town in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various business, professional, and regulatory organizations and individuals.
