The City of Newark is looking for General Laborer to be an integral member of the Maintenance Division within the Public Works Department. Under supervision the incumbent will perform tasks to include general cleaning and maintenance of city parks to include planting of trees, shrubs, pruning, fertilizing and watering, mowing and edging turf areas, as well as trash removal from parks, roadways, and medians. This active laborer will remove graffiti, install signage, and assist in the cleaning of storm drains.

DEFINITION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to drive and possess a valid California Operator’s license for the type of equipment driven (Class B); ability to work in a variety of confined spaces and positions, and work outside in inclement weather; ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive with considerable bending and stooping and repetitive shoulder, arm and hand motions; must have a great deal of finger dexterity; ability to distinguish color of wires; ability to read and understand written work orders and shop manuals, and communicate with various division employees, parts houses and vendors in order to obtain parts and effect repairs. Basic Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, graders, rollers, and a variety of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment tears down motors and performs general overhauling; repairs transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, lights, steering gears, starters, alternators, universal joints, sirens, and hydraulic systems; aligns wheels, adjusts brakes; repairs auxiliary equipment such as hydraulic pumps and motors; builds specialized equipment; installs batteries, tires, wiring, automatic electronic systems, and brakes; welds and cuts with electric and acetylene; occasionally makes emergency repairs out of the shop.

THE POSITION

The City is currently seeking General Maintenance Workers. This temporary position works with the City’s maintenance staff to perform: unskilled labor in the parks and landscape medians, street and sidewalk maintenance, street sign maintenance, and fleet building maintenance. Duties include, but are not limited to: raking, emptying trash cans and litter removal, irrigation repair, weeding, edging, street sign maintenance and graffiti removal. Work is closely supervised; work methods are explained in specific terms and work is subject to frequent review. 

Incumbents must possess the physical and mental capacity to work under the conditions described in this document and to perform the duties required by their assigned position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in landscaping, street and sidewalk maintenance, and building maintenance, as well as safety practices and precautions to be used in work.
• Skill in operating hand and power tool equipment such as rakes, pick and shovel, etc.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and to follow oral and written instructions. Intermittently, sit while studying or listening to training; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing maintenance, repair, or installation tasks; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry heavy weights up to 90 lbs.; work in conditions of various outdoor exposure.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Driving a city truck is required for the position and the applicant must have an acceptable driving record, subject to California DMV pull records.
• Ability to work Saturday and/or Sunday shifts.  Hours are 7AM-4:30PM and may fluctuate due to operational needs.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City's traffic signs and markings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Public Works Department. Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Signs and Markings Technician I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

The Ideal Candidate will have experience with equipment, materials and methods utilized in general construction, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs and markings. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Paint, install, and maintain city street signs, striping and reflective markers. Design and manufacture street name signs, City facility signs, and regulatory signs. Interpret and apply relevant codes, rules, and regulations as specified in the Traffic Control Handbook, Caltrans Specifications and California Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Provide general information to the public, other city departments, and vendors pertaining to area of assignment; investigate and respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding area of assignment. Comply with the policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program; utilize proper safety precautions and set a positive example for others. Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position. Employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in the planning and layout of traffic control devices including safe work zones. Be aware of the Underground Service Alerts (USA) guidelines.  Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment such as compressors, paint sprayers, thermal applicators and stencils. Install new or modified signing and/or striping as directed by Senior Signs and Marking Technician. Requisition and purchase materials and supplies; assist in maintaining expenditure records for materials and services; maintain records and prepare reports regarding work performed. Prepare detailed designs for installation of traffic control devices. Assist in the training of assigned crew members. Work cooperatively with others. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Perform related duties as assigned. Meet stand-by requirements and serve in a stand-by status after working hours. Respond to emergency callouts as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Signs and Markings Technician I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Specialized coursework in signs and markings or related field is desired.

Experience: One (1) year of experience performing duties in general construction or maintenance work related to signs and markings. 

License or Certificates: Must acquire and be able to retain a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement, Signs and Markings Specialist I and Work Zone Safety certifications from the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA), First Aid, CPR, ICS 100 and NIMS 700 certifications prior to permanent appointment.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Circulation Manager leads the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Library’s Circulation Services. As a member of the Library’s management team, this role is instrumental in maintaining efficient, patron-centered service. Key responsibilities include overseeing circulation operations at the Serramonte Main Library: supervising and supporting staff, managing schedules, and ensuring a high standard of customer service. • Architect, implement, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot various security systems that protect the City’s networks, IT/OT systems (including SCADA), applications and critical infrastructure.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, stooping, and intermittently climbing stairs and/or ladders to rooftops and walking rooftops perimeter in the performance of daily activities. The position will report to the Systems Support Division within SVP.  As the As-Needed Electric Program Manager (PI) you will help lead and coordinate a comprehensive improvement initiative for the organization’s AVEVA PI System. This role is responsible for assessing current-state challenges across infrastructure, data quality, tag management, workflows, and governance, and driving a structured program to modernize and stabilize the PI environment. This is an as-needed role, with flexible hours based on project phase and organizational priorities.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Demonstrated experience with AVEVA PI System (formerly OSIsoft PI), including architecture, data infrastructure, and integrations. Strong understanding of OT systems, telemetry, and real-time data environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

In-depth understanding of AVEVA Pl System architecture (Data Archive, AF, interfaces) and real-time industrial/OT data environments, including SCADA and telemetry systems. Strong knowledge of IT/OT integration, data governance practices, and infrastructure considerations across on-premises and cloud environments.

Demonstrated skill in leading complex, cross-functional technical programs, including assessing system gaps and executing improvement roadmaps for data, infrastructure, and governance. Strong communication and facilitation skills to align technical and business stakeholders, manage vendors, and drive decisions.

Ability to translate operational and business needs into actionable technical strategies while establishing standards for data quality, tag management, and system governance. Proven ability to drive change, manage competing priorities, and deliver results in a dynamic environment through collaboration and influence without direct authority.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Engineer/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance. Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills. A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units. Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid EMT OR Paramedic license
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer. CPAT must be current.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license. Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
