The City of Pleasant Hill is currently seeking applicants for Police Officer Trainee. The Trainee position is a non-sworn, entry-level position. As a Trainee, you will be assigned to attend an upcoming POST-approved Police Academy. Upon successful completion of the Academy, you will be eligible for appointment to the position of a sworn Police Officer.   

Sworn Police Officers can serve in patrol, traffic, investigations, and K-9 assignments. Other collateral opportunities include instructor positions (Firearms and Force Options Team), Regional SWAT, Mobile Field Force, 10851 Task Force, CSI, Regional Major Accident Investigation Team, Driving Team with firearms and force options team, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), FBI Safe Streets Task Force, SET Team, Drone Team, Social Media Team, Community Resource Officer, School Resource Officer, and Field Training Officers. 

Police Officer Trainee Duties:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Participate in and complete a prescribed law enforcement officer training program for entry level police officers, including training in report writing, laws of arrest and seizure, defensive driving, California Vehicle and Penal Codes, officer survival and physical fitness.
• Prior to entering the law enforcement academy training program, perform a wide variety of police support duties which may include dispatching and records, duties acting as desk officer and/or assisting in planning and research activities.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

• Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.
• Learn to use and property care for firearms.
• Think and act quickly in emergencies, and judge situations and people accurately.
• Learn, understand, interpret and apply laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Prepare clear, accurate and grammatically correct written reports.

Ability to
 

• Successfully complete a training program for entry level Police Officer.
• Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contact in the course of work.
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
• Meet standards of physical stature, endurance and agility established by the City.
• Meet the requirements for Police Officer contained in the California State Government Code.

Experience & Education: Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Experience: None required, although previous experience in law enforcement is desirable.
• Education:  High school diploma and 60 units of college-level course work. Candidates with an honorable discharge may be credited with up to 15 semester units for a minimum of 3 years of active duty in the U.S. Armed Services (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard).

The most qualified applicants, as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%. To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, including a drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.

The Housing Authority is seeking an exceptional, team-oriented candidate to oversee projects and initiatives in support of the Alameda Housing Authority (AHA)’s affordable housing development and neighborhood revitalization programs in the City. This may include new construction development, acquisition and rehabilitation of properties, and development for projects for AHA’s nonprofit development affiliate, Island City Development. AHA’s pipeline of multifamily projects includes serving family, homeless, workforce, and senior populations and managing major renovation of occupied properties within AHA’s portfolio. The Senior Project Manager will also manage a wide range of consultant relationships and may supervise one or more junior staff.

AHA is particularly interested in applications from candidates with a strong track record in successful management of affordable real estate development and housing new construction, and familiarity with various related federal, state, and local regulations. Desirable candidates will be knowledgeable about zoning and environmental regulations 
related to affordable development, experienced with development and administration of consultants and contracts, and have experience with public, private and non-profit affordable housing funding sources such as the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, Project based Section 8 and Tax-exempt bonds.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
•  Answer calls for the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of city, county, and state laws.
• Conduct both preliminary and follow-up investigations of disturbances, prowlers, burglaries, thefts, hold-ups, vehicle accidents, death, and other criminal incidents.
• Patrol the City and respond to calls related to traffic incidents and any other required emergencies.
• Observe, monitor, and control routine and unusual traffic conditions.
• Assist and advise motorists and enforce traffic safety laws.
• Make arrests as necessary.
• Interview victims, complainants, and witnesses.
• Interrogate suspects; gather and preserve evidence.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to hire two positions for Librarian I for the new Lakewood Branch Library! The current vacancies are: one Full-Time Librarian I and one Part-Time Librarian I (21 hours per week). 

 

We are seeking energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical, and interpersonal skills to join our team. The ideal candidates will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, using state-of the-art technology to develop library content, and selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection. Special projects may include expanding the Library's community engagement and outreach activities. The position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
