THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is looking for a dynamic, energetic, team-oriented full-time (38-hours per week) Librarian, to coordinate the library’s outreach and deliver innovative programs and services for children and families throughout the community. The position is flexibly staffed at the Librarian I/II or Lead Librarian level, depending on the candidate’s experience. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

The current opening is based at the Downtown Library and will provide services and programs for youth at all three library locations and in the community. The position will require work during the day, evenings and weekends. The Position

The Environmental Compliance Inspector performs inspections and sampling of industrial, commercial and residential sources of discharge to the City’s sanitary sewer and storm drain systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; inspects hazardous materials storage areas; responds to reports of illicit discharges; performs water quality testing; and conducts public outreach activities.  This classification is distinguished from all other technical and professional classifications in the City by its specialized assignments in support of a variety of environmental compliance programs.  The duties of the class involve courteous, effective and tactful interaction with the community to ensure compliance with wastewater and stormwater discharge regulations.  Persons assigned to this class perform or assist in performing all functions associated with the City’s Source Control (Pretreatment and Pollution Prevention) and Stormwater programs.  This position reports to the Regulatory Compliance Manager or higher level department personnel.

Some additional duties may also include the following:

• Enforce wastewater and stormwater discharge ordinances.
• Conduct on-site inspections of industrial and commercial businesses for compliance with the City’s sanitary sewer and stormwater ordinances.
• Initiate enforcement actions (e.g., issue notices of violation, administrative citations) to persons or businesses in violation of the City’s sanitary sewer and stormwater ordinances.
• Perform field investigations relative to water pollution incidents and/or complaints.
• Collect water samples and perform water quality testing in accordance with established standards and protocols.
• Calibrate and utilize sampling and/or monitoring equipment at appropriate locations; maintain and repair samplers and monitoring equipment.
• Work cooperatively with representatives of other City and County departments to ensure industrial, commercial, and residential conformance with City ordinances.
• Conduct field surveys as necessary to identify the source of or characterize (1) industrial discharges or excessive infiltration and inflow to the City’s sanitary sewer system; and (2) illicit discharges to the City’s storm drain system.
• Keep detailed inspection and follow-up records; maintain organized inspection files and records, both in hard copy and electronic formats.
• Assist with fulfilling wastewater and stormwater regulatory requirements, such as public outreach and education, trash load reduction efforts, and other regulatory requirements, as assigned.
• Measure landfill monitoring well water levels.
• Attend and participate in various technical committees of the San Mateo Countywide Stormwater Pollution Prevention Program.
• Attend workshops and training sessions to maintain job skills that are current with existing, new and changing regulations.
• Organize and participate in litter cleanups as required for Stormwater Permit compliance.
• Purchase required equipment and supplies as needed.
• Present pollution prevention information to various audiences as assigned.
• Work irregular or extended hours as necessary to respond to reports of illicit discharges, collect samples and/or conduct inspections.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is Looking for a

Wastewater Treatment Plant Electrical Technician

The Public Works Department’s Environmental Services Division (ESD) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the City’s 15.7 million gallon per day (MGD) conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The WWTP serves a population of more than 140,000 with an annual operating budget in excess of $15 million and has a staff of 28 professional and technical personnel. The Position

• Install, maintain, repair and research a variety of supervisory controls and replacement electrical components that are part of advanced wastewater treatment processes such as aeration, filtration, disinfection and dichlorination, sludge dewatering, odor control, and an environmental laboratory.
• Perform wiring required for the installation of electronic equipment; electrical conductors in conduits; splice high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre- molded splice kits.
• Design, install, maintain, repair, test and construct electrical assemblies.
• Troubleshoot plant electrical systems, controls and related process equipment. Provide technical support for other work groups within Public Works.
• Specify, install, program, and repair various types of variable frequency motor drive systems.
• Fabricate, maintain, install, service, and calculate power load distributions to various motors and related equipment.
• Install and repair programmable logic controllers and install related hardware and software for control systems in conjunction with controls technician.
• Maintain and repair automatic control valves and associated control functions.
• Implement preventive maintenance and repair on motors from fractional to over 400 horsepower. Record and calculate current requirements for new electrical installations.
• Troubleshoot, perform inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs on industrial switchgear and high voltage equipment such as transformers, breakers, circuits, switches, relays, regulators and distribution panels.
• Specify, install, and inspect various types of conduit; isolate breakers and switches for major repairs; coordinate repairs and scheduled outages with operations staff.
• Conduct surveys to gather field data.
• Use aerial lifts, scaffolding and ladders.
• Prepare requisitions and associated documents for purchase of repair parts and supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and associated costs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

The WWTP Electrical Technician receives general supervision from the WWTP Maintenance Superintendent or higher level personnel and exercises technical and functional supervision over assigned technical and maintenance personnel.

An exciting opportunity is available to join the City of Santa Clara’s Water & Sewer Utilities Department as a Code Enforcement Officer. The Position: 

The Code Enforcement Officer will conduct inspections, lead investigations and complete plan reviews. Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

An Associate's Degree in City or Urban Planning, Business Administration, Construction Technology, Environmental Science, or closely related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

Two (2) years of experience in public contact work involving zoning administrative investigation, building inspection or investigation, industrial/commercial pretreatment inspections, or stormwater pollution control, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Acceptable Substitution: 

One (1) year of additional related experience may be substituted for each year, up to two years of the required education.

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

For the Public Works Department:
A recognized professional certification within the stormwater management field (QSP, QISP, CSM, CESSWI, CPESC, CPMSM, etc.) within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.
 
 For the Water and Sewer Utilities Department:
 A Grade II Environmental Compliance Inspector Certification issued by the California Water Environment Association within twelve (12) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.
 A Water Distribution Operators Certification from the State Water Resources Control Board is desirable.
 A Cross-Connection Control Program Specialist Certification from the American Water Works Association is desirable.

Desirable Qualifications:

POSITION SUMMARY

Under supervision (Account Clerk I) or general supervision (Account Clerk II), performs a wide variety of responsible clerical and technical accounting work involved in performing financial record keeping and reporting duties in support of assigned accounting system, function, or program area including in the areas of utility billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, business licenses, and revenue collection and cash management; provides information and assistance to the general public and City departments; maintains file and records; and performs a variety of clerical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Account Clerk I - This is the entry-level class in the Account Clerk series performing the more routine and less complex clerical accounting support and customer service assignments while learning City policies and procedures. Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Account Clerk II level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. This classification is flexibly staffed with Account Clerk II. Advancement to the “II” level is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the assigned functions and is at the discretion of higher level supervisory or management staff.

Account Clerk II - This is the full journey level class within the Account Clerk series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Account Clerk I by the performance of the full range of clerical accounting support duties as assigned including performing the full scope of clerical financial record keeping transactions, customer service functions, and related support duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and are generally filled by advancement from the “I” level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience. Advancement to the “II” level is based on management judgment and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of job duties. This classification is distinguished from the Senior Account Clerk in that the latter is responsible for the more complex and difficult technical duties within the area of assignment and may provide lead direction to other Account Clerk positions.

1.       Perform a variety of responsible clerical accounting and financial office support duties in support of assigned accounting system, function, or program area including in the areas of utility billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, business licenses, and revenue collection and cash management.

2.       Prepare, maintain, and/or verify a variety of accounting, financial, and statistical records, ledgers, logs, and files; gather, assemble, tabulate, enter, check, verify, balance, adjust, record, and file financial data; codes data according to prescribed accounting procedures; reviews information to ensure accurate reporting; resolve discrepancies; establish and maintain various files and records.

3.       Perform data entry; post receipts and other information to various city accounts and funds.

4.       Assist in the preparation of financial, accounting, and statistical statements, analyses, documents, and reports; assist other accounting staff and departmental management in the preparation of reports; gather and organize data.

5.       Prepare daily City deposits and post appropriate journal entries.

6.       Prepare and submit all warrants and warrant list for review and approval.

7.       Perform a full range of customer service duties related to area of assignment; provide information to the public and City staff requiring the use of judgment and the interpretation of policies, rules, and procedures.

About the Position

This temporary position will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor-Special Events, assisting with the coordination, management, and implementation of special events operated by the City of San Carlos. This position will work evenings and weekends as needed from May – September 2026.

Essential Duties

• Assist with logistical elements of each event during the event-planning process, be onsite as needed during events for set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and post-event tasks

ABOUT THE TEAM 
The Economic Development team is a small, but might group that consists of a Director and Manager dedicated to strengthening and diversifying the local economy in Gilroy. The team focuses on business attraction, retention, expansion, and strategic partnerships that enhance the city’s economic vitality. Working closely with internal departments, community stakeholders, and regional partners, the team plays a central role in shaping initiatives that support sustainable growth. As an intern, you will work directly alongside leadership, gaining insight into how economic development strategy is crafted and executed at the municipal level.

WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 26, 2026, and end as late as September 30, 2026. This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

• Conduct economic, demographic, and market data analysis 
• Research industry trends, business climate conditions, and development opportunities 
• Support business program development and evaluation 
• Lease tracking and economic data management
• Support community engagement and outreach initiatives
• Project coordination and administrative support
• Assist with special strategic initiatives as assigned
