The City of Marysville is excited to be looking for our next Building Inspector I/II!  The application window is August 20, 2025 at 8:00 am until September 10, 2025 at 5:00 PM. 

Under the general direction of the City Building Official, performs inspections of residential, commercial, public works, infrastructure, capital improvement, and private development construction projects to enforce relevant codes; provides enforcement and interpretations of all state and local building codes and the relation and implementation of policies and procedures; ensures the life, health and safety of the citizens of the City as it relates to construction, use and occupancy of all structures; serves as the principal enforcement officer of the building and housing codes including ordinances and provisions for dangerous buildings and derelict structures; works collaboratively with other departments, individuals and agencies to proactively reduce the number of dangerous buildings and derelict structures in the community.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conduct building plan reviews and proposed construction for code compliance.
• Conduct field building inspections and issue correction notices for building code compliance.
• Conduct inspection of public works, infrastructure, capital improvement, and private development construction projects for workmanship and conformance with approved plans, specifications, contract provisions, safe working practices, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Air Quality, and/or OSHA requirements.
• Assist the public in providing building code and municipal code information both In the field and at the counter.
• Assist in issuing permits and maintain inspection records.
• Issue correction notices to individuals in violation of established building, sanitation, and related codes.
• Establish and maintain tracking documentation for each violation.
• Receive, document, and investigate complaints concerning noncompliance with building ordinances.
• Identify and abate dangerous and derelict structures in the community by proactively enforcing state and city ordinances.
• Initiate investigations based on analysis of preliminary information.
• Contact individuals and discuss possible violations, alternatives for solving noncompliance problems and time periods for correcting them.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent opportunity for a motivated team player to provide analytical, technical assistance, planning, and project-level support to administer and enforce the City’s Cross Connection Control Program.  Additional responsibilities may include assistance with regulation tracking and reporting, and provide a variety of other programmatic support related to the City’s drinking water and pretreatment (wastewater) programs.

Under the direction of the Water Quality Supervisor in the Environmental Compliance Division, the Assistant/Associate Environmental Compliance Analyst (Analyst) plays a critical role in protecting the City’s drinking water supply. This position is primarily responsible for developing and administering the City’s Cross Connection Control Program while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

We are seeking a collaborative self-starter to handle a range of responsibilities with competence and professionalism. The Analyst should demonstrate discretion and independent judgment, possess strong organizational skills, and have a proven ability to meet strict deadlines. The role requires handling sensitive issues with care and having excellent communication and interpersonal skills while working with the public, regulators, other City departments and other municipal agencies.

With additional experience, the Analyst may also provide analytic, technical, programmatic, and administrative support to a broader range of responsibilities within the Environmental Compliance Division, including other drinking water-related regulations, stormwater quality compliance and wastewater pretreatment.

The position will be filled at the Assistant or Associate Analyst level, depending on relevant prior education and work experience.

Primary responsibilities:   

• Implementing the City’s Cross Connection Control program and assist with the day-to-day operations and activities of the Environmental Compliance Division
• Conduct Cross Connection Control program field inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential facilities for Hazard Assessments
• Maintain, review and update related databases
• Review construction and plumbing plans for compliance; identify potential contamination risks
•  Enforce corrective actions with residents, business owners, and stakeholders
• Analyze and provide recommendations for updates to program-related municipal code
• Serve as a liaison to regulatory agencies and internal departments
• Keep current with evolving regulations and industry best practices
• Prepare and present technical staff reports for the Public Works Department, City Council, and other stakeholders
• Analyze and interpret data to determine operational needs, identify solutions to address problems, and provide recommendations
• Assist in developing, negotiating, and monitoring assigned contracts and agreements with service providers; ensure work complies with contracts and agreements and are within budget
• Assist in the planning and coordination of projects from start to finish and ensure efficient management of multiple project plans to meet deadlines
• Work independently and as a valuable team player on special projects by organizing, researching and coordinating information and requirements; planning, arranging, and meeting schedules
• Coordinate meetings and events, including community outreach
• Provide administrative and technical support to the Environmental Compliance Division related to Drinking Water and Wastewater Pre-Treatment programs.
• Inspect and certify backflow prevention devices

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for managing complex capital improvement projects, conducting hydraulic studies, and performing advanced technical engineering tasks related to the planning, design, and construction of waterworks facilities. Key responsibilities include preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a range of water infrastructure and public works projects, such as:

• Water main line replacements

• Water tank rehabilitation and replacement

• Pump station upgrades

The Senior Engineer works under the general supervision of a higher-level professional engineer and provides lead supervision to assigned engineering staff, ensuring quality, compliance, and timely delivery of projects.

License or Certificate: 

• Possession of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California, or a licensed Architect in the State of California (when assigned to Building & Safety).
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

The City is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions to work in the theatres at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.  Under the direction of the Technical Supervisors and the theatre department leads, the Stagehands assist with a variety of tasks related to theatre operations and maintenance.  The schedule will involve working up to 19 hours per week, depending on assignment.  The schedule includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.  On occasion, the position may involve working additional hours in a week.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of , or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California Class B driver's license with Tanker endorsement within the probationary period. 
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a California Water Environment Association Grade III Certificate within 18 months of employment.
