The City of Marysville is seeking qualified candidates for the position of a Public Works Director; this recruitment will fill 1 vacancy and create an eligible list.  

Reporting directly to the City Manager, this position is responsible for executive direction, strategic leadership, and management of the Public Works Department, including City maintenance workers and capital improvement projects. 

As the principal administrator of the Public Works Department, the Director; plans, organizes, directs, reviews and manages all department activities and functions including Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Streets, Public Facilities, Wastewater Treatment/Sewage, and Storm Water Management.

The Director also coordinates departmental activities with other City departments, outside agencies, community groups and individuals; and provides highly complex professional advice and support to the City Manager and City Council; assures department compliance with and enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes; manages and supervises staff; serves as a member of the City’s Executive Team.

Education and Certification

Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar major.

Experience

Incumbents must have a minimum of three (3) years of managerial experience directly involving municipal services such as public works, public utilities, capital improvement project management, parks maintenance and management, and/or street and facilities maintenance.

Under the general direction of the Town Manager, plans, schedules, and directs the work of the Public Works Department, which includes providing supervision of street improvements, permits, traffic control, pavement markings, parks and public landscaping, storm drains, street sweeping, building maintenance, and general engineering functions; performs related work as required.

DEFINITION:

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

The Position

The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer - Water and Wastewater [Formal Title: Senior Utilities Engineer] with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. What You’ll Do

The Public Works Supervisor will organize and supervise work crews engaged in the maintenance and repair of streets, traffic markings, signs, signals, street lights, drains, storm pump, stormwater conveyance systems and sanitary pumps, lagoons, dams, creeks and ditches; to provide technical staff assistance, including safety compliance and implementation. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives; standard operating procedures; establish schedules and methods for street, traffic and stormwater conveyance systems maintenance and repair; safety compliance and implementation; implement policies and procedures.
• Organize and supervise crews of skilled and semi-skilled personnel in the repair and maintenance of streets and stormwater conveyance systems, including street resurfacing, streetlights, traffic signals and street markings and signs, repairing and patching; street cleaning; sidewalk, curb and gutter removal and replacement; sewer cleaning and repair; weed control and storm drain cleaning maintenance.
• Maintain and interpret time, material and equipment use records; determine and implement adjustments to optimize the effectiveness of the maintenance system.
• Investigate complaints and recommend corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Participate in selecting, training, motivating, counseling and evaluating staff; participate in monitoring employee performance objectives; prepare employee performance reviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
• Coordinate safety training and support Department safety programs including preparation and updating of City safety practices, standard operating procedures and training materials. May be asked to conduct specific safety trainings depending on training and experience. These activities may be required in both the Engineering & General Services and Environmental Services Divisions as requested by the Director.
• Inspect the work of crews while in progress; provide advice and assistance to subordinate supervisors and lead workers.
• Assist in preparing cost estimates for street, sewer, traffic and drainage system maintenance and repair activities; make plans and sketches for minor street maintenance and repair projects.

The City of Menlo Park is seeking engineering professionals, with exceptional technical and project management skills, for Senior Civil Engineer positions in the Public Works Department (Department) Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division. The Senior Engineer will lead capital improvement projects under the supervision of the City Engineer or Public Works Director. The City of East Palo Alto is now actively seeking a compassionate, organized, responsible Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant performs a variety of complex office administrative, secretarial, and clerical duties in support of an assigned Department Director or for the East Palo Alto Sanitary District (EPASD), including coordinating, organizing, and overseeing the administrative operations and functions of the assigned office. The selected candidate coordinates assigned programs, projects, and services with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies. In addition to coordinating tasks for the assigned area of responsibility, interacting frequently with the public and providing information or directing questions and requests to the appropriate staff, and performing other duties as required.

This position is expected to be in office Monday through Friday. This is an open competitive/ promotional recruitment, meaning that it is open to qualified permanent employees and any other applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Two employment lists will be created for internal promotional and an open list of all other non-current EPA employees.

• Full-time regular position, 9/80 schedule
• Salary range $123,468.00 to $158,995.00 annually with Excellent Benefits

Minimum Qualifications for consideration - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, environmental engineering, environmental sciences or a related field. 

Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible wastewater treatment plant and collection system operations and maintenance experience including two years of administrative and supervisory responsibility. One year of Biological Nutrient Removal Treatment Processing is desirable.

License or Certificate:

Possession of a State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade V certificate is highly desirable.
