Under general supervision, the Landscape Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, including parks, park facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, irrigation systems and controllers, trees, and medians; uses and operated a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Performs maintenance and repair activities of City parks and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including parks, recreation facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, trees, and medians.

• Performs a variety of landscape construction and maintenance duties, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees; trimming and pruning trees in street landscaped areas; performing weed abatement using a chemical sprayer; irrigating, mowing, and fertilizing turf; removing fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris; raking leaves and clearing debris from walkways, fields, and other facilities; picking up trash and emptying receptacles.

• Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; changes and adjust heads; maintains controllers; participates in performing irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.

• Maintains parks and landscaped areas in a clean and safe condition, including picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles; cleaning and maintaining restrooms.

• Operates and maintains a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment and hand and power tools related to the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities.

• Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required

• Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.

• Maintains accurate logs, reports, and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.

• Receives and acts upon complaints, referrals, and concerns from the public; responds to and performs work in emergency situations as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or related facilities is desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B Driver’s License by time of appointment; possession and maintenance of Qualified Applicator certificate issued by the State of California.

Benefits Overview:

The City offers a healthy cafeteria benefits program including choices among plan options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short and long-term disability. 

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employees who have experienced a 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation

Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year. 

Vacation: Employees can earn 120 hours a year

Holidays: 11 authorized holidays per year, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.

Education and Wellness Reimbursement: Employees may request reimbursement for $2,000 of approved education expenditures; $1,000 of that amount may be spent on selected wellness benefits and items.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

A paraprofessional classification requiring administrative, analytical, and specialized technical skills to perform semi-complex municipal planning duties. The role is distinguished from lower classifications by its scope of work and requirements for specialized training and technical proficiency in planning. This classification performs recurring tasks and solves problems independently under general supervision from the department director or assigned supervisor, and does not exercise supervision over staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Perform a wide range of administrative, operational, and technical tasks supporting planning programs and functions.
• Process, review, and evaluate plans, required planning documents and construction plans for completeness, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
• Administer zoning, land use, subdivision, and environmental regulations; provide recommendations on project issues, and assist applicants to ensure all requirements are met within established time frames.
• Interact with the public, and internal and external stakeholders;  serve as liaison to City staff, applicants, developers, consultants, and external organizations and agencies regarding City codes, policies, processes, and requirements.
• Conduct site visits; investigate zoning issues and complaints; advise property owners, developers, and the public on relevant City ordinances and regulations.
• Prepare reports and make public presentations to the Planning Commission, City Council, and other public groups.
• Conduct specialized planning studies, research, and analysis for current and long-range planning issues, including environmental evaluations and General Plan updates.
• Develop ordinances, resolutions, and regulations related to planning matters.
• Oversee and coordinate the current planning process including project scheduling for Historic Design Review Committee and Planning Commission, and project review with other staff.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date planning records and data.

The Dixon Fire Department offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for qualified applicants pursuing a career in fire safety.  The position performs fire prevention activities to save lives and property; responds to hazardous material incidents; responds to all fire alarms with designated company; prepares and operates the necessary equipment at the scene of the fire such as a hose, ladders, chemicals, bars, hooks, etc.; administers first aid to injured patrons; performs other acts required of a Firefighter at the scene of an emergency; carries out all duties assigned by Superior Officers.  Work involves irregular hours during the day and evenings, and on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks in the collection of residential, commercial and industrial solid waste refuse; drive and operate refuse collection vehicles; organize, assign and review the work of others and perform other related duties as required.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Refuse Truck Driver II

This is a journey level class and is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker I classification by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance as unusual or unique situations arise. This class is distinguished from the Senior Refuse Truck Diver in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned staff or division programs and responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Refuse Truck Driver II

Receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor. May receive technical and functional supervision from a Senior Refuse Truck Driver.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Drives and operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including one or two-person-staffed refuse collection truck, front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; responds to afterhours call-outs if assigned.
• Maintains assigned truck by regular cleaning and washing, including inspecting for mechanical or other operating problems; reports mechanical or related problems for maintenance; may perform minor maintenance as appropriate.
• Operates hydraulic/mechanical controls to load, compress, and dump refuse; collects and disposes of debris on assigned route; transports refuse to/unload at appropriate landfill sites and/or sewage treatment plant.
• Assists with battery sorting, electronic waste collection, bin repair or delivery, cardboard removal, illegal dumping cleanup, and any other related solid waste program or assignment.
• Completes and posts notification tags on containers, bins and dumpsters for unacceptable contents for refuse collection.
• Prepares, maintains and submits records, reports and forms including time records, equipment and maintenance records, and route maps and logs.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of:  Methods, practices and techniques of solid waste and refuse collection and disposal; practices, techniques and materials used in the collection and disposal of solid waste refuse; knowledge of the City street system; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; operating characteristics and safety requirements for operation of trucks, refuse vehicles and other heavy and light equipment; defensive driving; proper lifting procedures; Principles and practices of lead supervision, training, and performance evaluation, including safety practices and related record-keeping; methods and techniques for record keeping; basic principles of mathematics; occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to:  Safe, effective, defensive and attentive driving, along with experience using a variety of solid waste and refuse collection vehicles, equipment, tools and materials. 

Ability to:  Perform solid waste refuse collection and disposal; drive and operate solid waste and refuse collection trucks; respond to issues and concerns from the community; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations; operate a variety of solid waste and refuse collection equipment, vehicles and tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time; work at substantial heights; respond to afterhours call-outs if assigned; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; analyze a complex issue, and develop and implement an appropriate response; develop and coordinate collection route schedules, including identification of non-routine special routes/equipment needs related to special events/projects; inspect trucks for maintenance/replacement recommendations; act as a lead worker and perform advanced journey level solid waste refuse collection work related to area of assignment; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.

THE SELECTION PROCESS

SRFECC is preparing for a Dispatcher Academy, beginning September 2025! As a Dispatcher I, you will be a key player in the public safety network, managing both emergency and non-emergency calls. Your role involves receiving critical information, dispatching appropriate Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) resources, providing live-saving instructions, relaying facts, and ensuring effective communication throughout the incident. This is an entry-level position ideal for individuals with no prior public safety dispatching experience. Advancement to Dispatcher II is expected within two years, and offers greater responsibility and higher pay.

This position requires the ability to work well under pressure, demonstrate exceptional communication skills, and think quickly during emergency situations. Shift work is required, and you must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays.
