The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security. 

 

About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

The position performs highly responsible, complex general and specialized administrative and clerical duties.

REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES
Receives general supervision from and reports directly to the General Manager and his/her
designated representative.

ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES

• Composes correspondence independently or as directed; prepares letters, reports and other finished copy from rough draft and marginal notes; reviews, formats, and edits general correspondence for the General Manager, Finance Officer, Claims Administrator, and other personnel, ensuring proper formatting, grammar, and punctuation.
• Attends Board of Directors meetings, takes and transcribes minutes. Prepares meeting agendas and Board packets. Posts meeting notices, agendas and minutes to various locations and website.
• Coordinates and schedules a variety of meetings and other events/activities, tracks number of attendees, coordinates site locations, and arranges for necessary supplies and refreshments.
• Maintains and updates a variety of agency files, records, lists, and databases. Enters data/information into Risk Management Information System, to maintain and update data/information. Generates a variety of reports from database system(s). Scans and files documents into an electronic data warehouse.
• Receives, opens, time stamps, and distributes incoming mail.
• Receives and reviews invoices, identifies appropriate general ledger code, enters information into system, generates checks for payment of invoices, obtains necessary signatures, and mails payment to vendors.
• Answers multi-line telephone, screens callers/customers, responds to questions and provides general information regarding. Refers callers/customers to the proper individual for handling when appropriate.
• Monitors, maintains, and updates information on the Authority’s external website and intranet. Ensures that information is accurate and current and provides feedback and updated information to the webmaster.
• Gathers and compiles data and information for general purposes and/or special reports or projects such as the annual report; contacts other divisions, employees, agencies, and individuals for additional material, as necessary.
• Operates a variety of office equipment, including copiers, scanners, fax machines, computers, and printers.
• Provides administrative support to the General Manager, Finance Officer, Claims Administrator, and other staff, as necessary. Maintains calendars, schedules appointments/conference rooms, screens appointments and/or refers to appropriate sources to organize and coordinate staff appointments.
• Designs and creates a variety of brochures, flyers, newsletters, forms, and/or training materials utilizing graphics/publishing software.

The County of Yuba is recruiting for both Extra-Help and Full-Time Juvenile Corrections Officers I/II, in an effort to fill current vacancies and expand staffing levels. These positions are located on the Tri-County Youth Rehabilitation Campus which falls under the Juvenile Institutions Division of the Yuba County Probation Department.  The primary responsibilities of this flexibly staffed position are to: provide care, custody, supervision, and control of youth housed in the secured detention facilities while they are pending legal action or serving a post adjudication commitment; ensure and sustain a safe and secure environment for youth; and coordinate counseling and behavior modification activities associated with the operation of the facilities.

 

About Detention Services & Yuba County:

Our Department believes people can change and we can be instrumental in supporting that change.  We are  a small workplace family that supports one another to accomplish our mission and allow our team members to live full lives outside the workplace. Our Campus provides youth detention services to the communities of Yuba, Sutter, and Colusa Counties as well as several contract counties through our Camp Singer program.  We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, and includes the Tri-County Juvenile Hall, Secure Housing Unit, and Maxine Singer Youth Guidance Center (Camp Singer), under a Joint Powers Agreement between the three counties. Our Department is the administrative agency responsible for the management and daily operation of the facility. Under the direction of the Water Quality Supervisor in the Environmental Compliance Division, the Assistant/Associate Environmental Compliance Analyst (Analyst) plays a critical role in protecting the City’s drinking water supply. This position is primarily responsible for developing and administering the City’s Cross Connection Control Program while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

The Extra Help Employee - Senior Nutrition Driver position, under the direction of the Senior  Nutrition Manager, will be responsible for ensuring the orderly and timely delivery of daily meals and services to senior citizens.  The position requires the ability to plan, organize and coordinate the meal preparation and delivery and congregate services in a courteous manner. The position is at-will, temporary, part-time and scheduled for up to twenty five (25) hours per week. 
 

JOB DUTIES

• Responsible for the safe transport of meals following all food safety principles.  
• Accurately pack cold food transport containers with cold food and beverages and ice packs. 
•  Treat all staff, volunteers and seniors with courtesy.  
• Schedule for the pickup and delivery of meals to seniors from the nutrition site.

CHILD SUPPORT SPECIALIST I

Performs a wide variety of child support duties consisting of maintaining a caseload, locating and interviewing custodial and non-custodial parents and others to elicit factual information for the purpose of establishing child support obligations and enforcing child support laws; arranges for support payments when possible; prepares cases for court hearings as necessary; and performs related work as required.

Working under close supervision, Child Support Specialist I is the entry/trainee level in the Child Support Specialist series. Employees in this class receive in-service training, and are given detailed instructions in the performance of duties related to child support laws, regulations, and a broad range of child support casework activities. As requisite skills and knowledge are developed, greater independence and the full scope of responsibility are exercised. Employees are expected to promote to Child Support Specialist II after one year of satisfactory performance at the entry/trainee level.

CHILD SUPPORT SPECIALIST II

Performs a wide variety of child support duties consisting of maintaining a caseload, locating and interviewing custodial and non-custodial parents and others to elicit factual information for the purpose of establishing child support obligations and enforcing child support laws; arranges for support payments when possible; prepares cases for court hearings as necessary; and performs related work as required.

Working under general supervision, Child Support Specialist II is the journey level in the Child Support Specialist series. Employees at this level are expected to perform a broad range of child support casework from intake to establishment, enforcement, and case closure. Within legal requirements and departmental policies and procedures, incumbents operate with considerable independence and must exercise discretion and judgment in evaluating cases and determining the level of support and the methods of enforcement. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower level of Child Support Specialist I, or if filled from the outside, require prior related experience.

Child Support Specialist II differs from the higher class of Child Support Specialist III in that the latter is the advanced journey level, and incumbents act as lead worker or exercise detailed subject knowledge of a specific program area or specialized department system.

 

CHILD SUPPORT SPECIALIST III

Under limited supervision, the Child Support Specialist III performs a wide variety of child support duties involving the more difficult and/or sensitive cases; performs special assignments; maintains a caseload; and performs related work as required.

The Child Support Specialist III is the advanced journey level in the Child Support Specialist series. Incumbents act as the lead-worker to a group of child support staff, and/or exercise detailed subject matter knowledge of a specific program area or specialized system inherent to the operations of the department.

Positions in this class differ from those in the class of Child Support Specialist II by the assignment of complex, sensitive or confidential cases requiring advanced technical skills. Incumbents may act in a lead capacity, may provide training to lower-level Child Support Specialists and may participate in special projects such as audits and/or quality control reviews.

Reviews lower level cases for quality control, audit, and/or training purposes.

Researches, develops, and conducts group and/or one-on-one training for new and existing staff.

Acts as the supervisor for administrative purposes in the supervisor's absence.

Uses a variety of methods, systems and procedures for locating absent parents, including contacting other agencies, utilizing databases and web-based searches.

This position is located in the Glenn County Health and Human Services Agency, Behavioral Health Division, Substance Use Disorders Services Unit and provides community outreach advocacy services, presents informational sessions, performs prevention, and outreach for at-risk populations; prepares, researches, and presents health system materials; and performs related duties as assigned. The position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

Qualifications:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in a community center or office environment subject to frequent public contact and interruption and to intermittent exposure to individuals acting in a disagreeable fashion. The noise level is usually moderate. The employee frequently works in the field in outdoor weather conditions, subject to extreme heat or cold and where the noise level may be loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand or walk; use hands or fingers to touch, handle or feel; use hands and arms to reach; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. Vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision; depth perception; the ability to adjust focus; and the ability to see well in poor lighting or at night. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Physical demands may vary according to unit assignment.

Selection Process:
Based on the information provided in the application documents, those candidates with the most desirable qualifications will be invited to continue in the selection process.  Not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination.  Be sure to include all pertinent information regarding your education and experience.  Fill out the application completely; blank spaces may cause rejection; do not refer to resume.  Falsification or omission of material fact is cause for rejection, removal from the eligibility list, or dismissal.  Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application. Cover letters and resumes are encouraged and must be submitted online as attachments with the fully completed application. Applications must be submitted online by the filing deadline, or when the listed number of applications are received, whichever occurs first.

Examination:
Candidate selection will be based on competitive examinations. Test content will be related to the job. A driver license will be requested for identification and admission to the testing area. If there is more than one part to an examination, candidates must pass each part. Candidates with passing scores will be asked to compete in successive parts of the examination.

• Written Test/Practical Exercise:  A written test and a practical exercise may be used, in addition to the appraisal interview. 
• Appraisal Interview:  A job related appraisal interview will be conducted to evaluate and compare participating candidates’ knowledge, skills, and abilities in relation to those factors which job analysis has determined to be essential for successful performance of the job.
• After the Appraisal Interview, the top candidates will be invited to a staff interview.

          All applicants will receive a written response to their standing in the selection process.
