The City of Foster City is seeking energetic, self-motivated, and organized candidates for the Deputy City Clerk position in the Communications/City Clerk Department. Education and Experience

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by course work in public administration or a closely related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible clerical experience in a municipal organization of which at least two years have involved providing administrative office support services at the division or departmental level in a public agency.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 80%) and a written exercise (weighted 20%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

Challenging aspects of the job: As a Food Service Worker within the Sheriff’s Office, you will be working in a restrictive environment inside a correctional facility that serves the incarcerated population. You must be able to handle multiple duties at one time, meet tight deadlines, drive a large truck, trouble shoot issues that arise, work independently, and ensure careful delivery of meals between correctional facilities.
   
The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Food Handling Skills: One year of experience preparing and serving food. Possession of a valid ServSafe Food Handler Certification from the National Restaurant Association.
• Food Safety and Sanitation: Demonstrated understanding and adherence to proper food handling, hygiene, and safety protocols. Awareness of the general food safety and sanitation codes and standards.
• Time Management: Efficiently manage time to coordinate the preparation and cooking of multiple dishes simultaneously. Prioritize tasks in alignment with established procedures and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines while following protocols. Ability to be at your workstation on time.
• Customer Service: Prioritize and handle tasks that directly contribute to delivering excellent service throughout Food Service Unit operations. Ability to make decisions that lead to appropriate resolution of an issue. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and those outside the department.
• Teamwork: Collaboration with other food service staff to ensure smooth operations and timely service.
• Stress Management: Ability to handle high-pressure situations, such as changes in assignments and unexpected issues in a correctional food service environment.
• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in effectively using and navigating various computer systems, software applications, and technology tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and nutrition management.
• Flexibility: Ability to work a flexible schedule as the Food Service Unit operates 7 days a week from 6:30 am to 7 pm year-round. This position may require you to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and/or other shift work.

Additionally, the ideal candidate for the Sheriff’s Office will possess a California Class C or Class A license, have a clean driving record, and be comfortable working alongside incarcerated individuals. Fluency in Spanish, Tagalog, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian (speak, read, write) is highly desired but not required.
  
Candidates chosen for these positions must successfully pass a background investigation in order to work in a locked facility around incarcerated persons. Felony and misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency.  
   
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office currently has one regular full-time vacancies with additional vacancies expected. The appointment may be made at either the Food Service Worker I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate(s) and the needs of the department.
  
As a Food Service Worker with the Sheriff’s Office you will be responsible for:

• Directing the work of incarcerated individuals who are assigned to clean and prepare food or assist in related routine tasks defined by supervisors at specific facilities assisting Cooks in the preparation of meals.
• Driving a large or small truck to deliver food and supplies and maintaining basic records related to vehicle use such as mileage and service reports.
• Preparing food for cooking by peeling, cutting, or slicing.
• Preparing salads, sandwiches, beverages, and simple desserts.
• Setting up tray lines and/or individual trays.
• Maintaining safety and security of equipment and addressing issues that arise.
• Overseeing the activities of the dish room, including ensuring chemicals are ordered, monitoring the PH and temperatures of the equipment, and preparing daily items such as dishes, pots, pans, containers, carts, and equipment.
• Cleaning facilities including sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing work areas such as floors, storage spaces, trucks and emptying garbage cans.
• Assisting with deliverables including signing for, bringing in, and/or storing items.
• Performing basic office tasks such as answering phones, working with computers, and paperwork.
• Following Food Service Unit policy and procedures including arriving to work on time, submitting personal timecard and assisting in following up on requests in a timely matter.
• Performing related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Food Service Worker I ($30.86 - $34.47 / hourly) is the entry/trainee level position. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn a full range of Food Service Worker duties. As experience is gained there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is flexibly staffed with Food Service Worker II and incumbents may advance to the next level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiencies which meet the higher-level qualifications.
  
Food Service Worker II ($32.50 - $36.35 / hourly) is the journey level position. Under general supervision, incumbents independently perform a variety of responsible food service duties. Incumbents work under specified guidelines and supervisors are available in non-routine circumstances. Specific duties may vary from position to position.
 
Knowledge of:

• Basic kitchen cleaning and sanitation methods.
• Operation and care of kitchen equipment.
• Proper lifting techniques.

Skill/Ability to:

• Prepare simple foods and beverages.
• Interact cooperatively with others including staff, patients, inmates and members of the public.
• Work rapidly under pressure.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Licensure/Certification: Must possess and maintain a current California Food Handler Card for the duration of employment in this classification or obtain card within six (6) months of employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Executive Assistant/Deputy District Clerk will be required to attend evening Board/Committee meetings. Meetings may be held in Los Altos or offsite.  This position is part of the General Manager’s office at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by two (2) years of college-level coursework in business or secretarial science and
• Three (3) years of responsible secretarial experience involving assisting executive management or a high-level officials with administrative duties.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 6 part-time Assistant Pool Managers within the Recreation Department.  This position may require you to work various days, weekends or evenings.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under direction, assists in the overall operations of a swimming pool facility, and its assigned temporary employees; assists in the planning, organizing, coordination, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of aquatic activities and programs for all ages.

The Assistant Pool Manager is the working lead class responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics program. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Pool Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for the pool operations, programs, and staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Pool Manager. Exercises indirect supervision over temporary and seasonal aquatics personnel; may exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in monitoring and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, which includes direction to lifeguards/instructors; enforce and explain pool regulations and policies; administer first aid and perform emergency rescues.
• Maintain proper health specifications, in restroom and locker areas and take all safety precautions.
• Manage the daily opening and closing of the facility.
• Assist in the oversight of proper sanitation and maintenance of pool water; ensure cleanliness of restrooms, dressing rooms, and public areas; report maintenance conditions affecting facility operation and security.
• Assist in the oversight of the safe and proper operations of assigned pool; ensure pool rules and safety guidelines are followed; maintain order with disruptive patrons and exercise crowd control where warranted; and refer escalated issues to assigned supervisor or proper authorities.
• Exercise lead/indirect supervision over all assigned staff including temporary and seasonal staff, independent contract instructors, and volunteers. Exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of temporary, part-time, or seasonal aquatics staff as required.
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required; ensure the safety of pool users and enforce all user rules and policies of the department.
• Complete, review, and file accident and incident reports; assist with follow-up related to reports; purchase, check, and maintain first aid equipment; perform daily safety checks and inspections of the facility and all equipment.
• Assist with employee schedules; complete reports on chemical tests; assist with the training of lifeguards and other aquatics staff; verify and check aquatics staff timecards; submit timecards to Pool Manager for approval; coordinate and facilitate staff meetings; assist with special events.
• Work with maintenance staff to ensure that pool facility maintenance procedures are followed.
• Keep the pool, pool deck, and auxiliary buildings/areas clean and free of litter and debris.
• Act as the Pool Manager in her/his absence.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals, or pool chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold and is required to swim.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS
The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of: Modern principles and practices of aquatics programs; facilities, operations, and techniques used in aquatics programs; routine swimming pool maintenance, chlorinators, heaters, and other equipment used in a pool facility; current techniques in swim lesson instruction; basic pool chemistry, including chemicals used to disinfect water and maintain proper PH in a public pool; practices and principles of first aid and CPR lifesaving safety measures at a public pool; health and safety codes applicable to the operation of a public pool; principles and practices of customer service; modern office equipment, methods, and procedures; computer hardware and software; proper English, spelling, and grammar.

Ability to: Supervise and instruct individuals and groups in various aquatic and related recreational activities; plan and lead the work of volunteers, seasonal/part-time staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; interpret community demand for aquatic programs; successfully resolve a variety of customer service related matters; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR; work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

The Public Works Department

DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Code Enforcement Officer I
The Code Enforcement Officer I is the entry level class in the code enforcement series that allows the incumbent to develop journey level knowledge and abilities. Initially, under immediate supervision, incumbents perform the more routine and less complex code enforcement assignments while learning City policies and procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. This classification is alternatively staffed with Code Enforcement II and incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating a level of proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

The Code Enforcement Officer II
The Code Enforcement Officer II is the journey level class in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full scope of assigned duties. Incumbents are responsible for performing the full range of inspection and code enforcement responsibilities involving codes and regulations in a broad range of areas, including zoning, building, fire, health and safety. The work requires independence and discretion in working with the public and in conducting field inspections and involves a proactive implementation of applicable codes and regulations. The Code Enforcement Officer I
The Code Enforcement Officer I receives immediate supervision from the City Manager. Incumbents of this classification do not routinely exercise supervision.

The Code Enforcement Officer II
The Code Enforcement Officer II receives general supervision from the City Manager and may exercise technical and functional supervision over assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS     (Include but are not limited to the following)

• Performs residential, commercial, industrial and site inspections; determines existence and type of code violation; compiles, analyzes and evaluates findings of investigations and inspections; coordinates with property owners or their representatives and other regulatory agencies to take corrective action; performs follow-up inspections and investigation as required; ensures compliance with all applicable municipal codes and regulations; issues administrative citations for non-compliance.
• Interprets, applies and explains applicable municipal codes, zoning ordinances, building codes, vehicle codes, state housing, health and safety codes, relocation regulations, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) administrative requirements and other related laws, codes and regulations; advises property owners on the requirements for compliance; explains processes and procedures for obtaining compliance or appropriate permits.
• Maintains clear, concise and comprehensive records and reports related to enforcement activities; composes and types correspondence, reports, forms and specialized documents; maintains communication/action logs for code enforcement cases; enters and retrieves information from automated records systems; prepares notices of violation and orders.
• Photographs violations; gathers evidence and prepares cases for court proceedings; produces photographs and records of violations for evidence; represents the City in court regarding noncompliance if required.
• Responds to questions and concerns from the public, departmental staff and other agencies; provides information as appropriate and resolves service issues and complaints; cooperates with other agencies, neighborhood improvement groups and organizations interested in neighborhood beautification, improvement and clean up.
• May be assigned on a City-wide basis or in targeted areas of the City.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff and the public.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when making inspection, reading written reports and work-related documents. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold. Incumbents may frequently deal with irate members of the public.

GENERAL INFO 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II provides essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned.  
 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Illustrative purposes only)

• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment. 

• Assist in organizing and supervising recreational programs in any one or more of the following areas: children, adults, senior citizens, and participants with special needs at playgrounds, community centers, and other recreational areas. 

• Open, close, and secure facilities, including locking gates and setting alarms. 

• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment according to event/program requirements. 

• Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure facility safety and upkeep.

CAMP COUNSELOR LEAD (Illustrative purposes only) 

• Oversee and guide program staff in their daily duties, ensuring high standards of supervision, engagement, and participant safety. 
• Assist in planning, organizing, and scheduling program activities to create a balanced and enjoyable experience.
• Address behavioral issues and manage group dynamics and foster a positive environment for participants and staff.
• Enforce safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and monitor the physical and emotional well-being of all participants. 
• Serve as a liaison between camp counselors/program staff, families, and City Staff, addressing concerns and maintaining effective communication. 
• Oversee staff tasks, support logistical operations, and ensure adherence to camp policies, health, and safety regulations.
• Model positive behavior, establish rapport with families, and maintain accurate program records. 
• Mediate participant disputes, assist camp counselors/program staff with behavior management, and provide ongoing support and assistance to staff, participants, and volunteers. 
• Communicate program updates and recommend improvements for materials and equipment.
• Ensure familiarity with and readiness for all emergency procedures and other tasks as directed by Supervisor.

• Check daily facility schedules and rental setup requirements.
• Use computer systems for data entry.
• Assist patrons with registration processing and POS transactions.
• Handle office tasks including mail distribution, shipments, and deliveries.
• Support office inventory management for supplies and equipment.
• Assist facility attendants and recreation programs as needed.

About the Position

This temporary position will work directly with the Recreation Supervisor-Special Events, assisting with the coordination, management, and implementation of special events operated by the City of San Carlos. This position will work evenings and weekends as needed from May – September 2026.

Essential Duties

• Assist with logistical elements of each event during the event-planning process, be onsite as needed during events for set-up, tear-down, problem-solving, and post-event tasks
• Perform administrative tasks including purchase inquiries and scheduling
• Staff and maintain the City Information Booth as required at each event
• Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, suppliers, contractors and entertainment
• Be available for event meetings as required
