Village Park Preschool Program

Village Park Preschool is a play-based preschool program offered by the City of Burlingame Parks and Recreation Department. We offer 5 programs: Lil’ Sprouts (2 year olds), Cottage Kids (3 year olds), Playschool Villagers (3 year olds), Afternoon Owls (3 year olds), and Camp Treehouse (3-4 year olds).  The emphasis of the program is physical, social, and emotional growth in a child-centered environment. Activities are designed to foster a healthy child that develops an early love of learning. Village Park Preschool programs strive to create an environment inspiring each child’s individual creativity and self-expression. Children participate in arts/crafts, music, body movement, basic science, cognitive games, creative/dramatic play, cooking, circle and story time, fine and gross motor skill building, and phonics awareness.

Definition: Preschool Site Coordinator

The City of Burlingame is looking for an enthusiastic, organized, creative, and responsible Preschool Site Coordinator. Under direction of a Recreation Supervisor, the Preschool Site Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Village Park Preschool ensuring a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children. This role involves managing staff, coordinating programs, communicating with parents, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties

• Program Oversite
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff to ensure lesson plans, schedules, and classroom activities align with educational standards and goals.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of programs and make adjustments as needed to meet the needs of children and families.
  • Manage supply lists and shop for required materials.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee age-appropriate curriculum and activities that promote children's physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development.
  • Lead a variety of activities including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, organized games, story time, music/singing activities, science, cooking, early writing skills, and interactive circle time.
  • Develop and plan activities for preschool summer camp
  • Change diapers and support toilet training.

• Staff Management 
  • Train and supervise teaching staff.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and professional development opportunities to staff to enhance their skills and performance.

• Parent Communication 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a responsive and professional manner.
  • Facilitate open communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff to promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Send emails to parents with child and class updates.
  • Manage Village Park Instagram

• Administrative Duties 
  • Prepare monthly newsletter.
  • Manage Village Park Preschool Instagram.
  • Complete assigned paperwork, including timecards and incident reports.

• Safety and Compliance 
  • ​​​​​​​Enforce policies and procedures related to child supervision, hygiene, emergency preparedness, and security measures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, equipment, and materials to ensure they meet safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of:

• Experience and Education:
  • Completion of 24 semester units of Early Childhood Education

School Year (August-May)

Monday/Wednesday - 9am-11:15pm (2 year olds)

Tuesday/Thursday - 9:15am-11:30am (2 year olds)

Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday - 9am-12pm (3 year olds)

Monday/Wednesday/Friday - 8:45am-12:15pm (3 year olds)

Tuesday/Thursday - 12:30pm-3:30pm (3 year olds)

Summer Camp (June-August)

Monday- Friday - 9am-12pm (3-4 year olds)

Work Schedule:                    

8-20 Hours a week

Maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year                                                 

Note: These positions are part-time and do NOT have a benefits package. 

Salary:                   

$27.69-$34.30 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, plan, organize and provide leadership for children grades 1st – 5th . for an onsite afterschool program. Program hours are M, T, Th, F PM 2:30pm – 5:30pm and Wed. 1:30pm – 5:30pm Approximately 15 – 20 hours a week.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tiny Tots Instructor will teach assigned classes of pre-school children ranging in ages from 18 months to 5 years old in enrichment, recreational and educational based programming (Tiny Tots Aide will assist).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Develop and instruct weekly lesson plans (i.e. art, free play, enrichment, and circle time).
• Supervise preschool age children indoors and outdoors.
• Maintains a variety of program records and prepares reports relevant to program area.
• Ensures that activities run smoothly and according to program objectives and guidelines and general department philosophy.
• Maintain direct communication with parents and families.
• Encourage and support early childhood development.
• Clean tables, floors and play areas when need arises.
• Participate in City sponsored special events which may occur on weekends and/or holidays

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Tiny Tots Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Be able to establish and maintain productive working relations with others
• Ability to tactfully and appropriately communicate with preschoolers and parents
• Ability and desire to work with young children
• Must have some knowledge of growth and developmental stages of 3-5 year old children

Tiny Tots Preschool Aide (Activity Specialist II)

• Must be at least 18 years of age and have ECE units, or educational equivalent, or experience caring for children

Tiny Tots Preschool Lead (Activity Specialist III)

• Must have 6 academic units at the junior college level in an Early Childhood Education program and 18 months experience in a recreation or structured child care setting for preschoolers.

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified 30 days prior to the first day of work.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Pool Service Technician for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for someone to perform a wide variety of duties related to maintaining the City’s Aquatics facilities, pools, water slides and property. Swimming experience is desired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings. 
• Please note that shift preference is not guaranteed and is based on the program's staffing needs and can change at any time. Please keep this in mind when/if you plan to attend school.
