THE DEPARTMENT: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. As a result of its proximity to neighboring jurisdictions, the employees of the Suisun City Police Department remain extremely busy as they address the needs of the community.

THE POSITION: Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant or other supervisory/management staff, performs a variety of duties related to the protection of public health, safety, and welfare and the enforcement of applicable federal, state, and local laws; provides traffic enforcement and control; and carries out special assignments in a particular phase of police work. The Police Officer is an entry/journey level class responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned law enforcement duties and responsibilities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Patrols assigned areas of the City to preserve law and order, discover and prevent commission of crimes, and enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances; maintains awareness of and remains alert for wanted suspects, known criminals, stolen vehicles, missing persons, traffic violators, and crimes in progress; makes arrests; issues warnings and citations.
• Responds to calls for the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, general public service calls, and complaints including those involving automobile accidents, traffic hazards, misdemeanor and felony incidents, domestic disturbances, health code and local ordinance violations, property control, civil complaints, and related incidents; responds to and provides assistance at a variety of public service type calls that are non-criminal in nature.
• Conducts initial and follow-up investigations at scenes of incidents to which summoned or observed; determines what, if any, crime has been committed; collects, preserves, processes, photographs, and books evidence; locates and interviews victims and witnesses; identifies and interrogates suspects. • Prepares and serves search and arrest warrants; apprehends and arrests offenders for crimes committed under federal, state, and local laws and codes; controls and mitigates people under the influence of drugs or alcohol or other potentially hostile situations.
• Directs traffic at special events or emergency situations; provides traffic and crowd control at community and emergency events.

Definition

• Operates light power driven, hand held and "walk behind" equipment and uses shovels, rakes, other hand tools, jackhammers, dump trucks in the performance of assigned duties.
• Performs manual and semiskilled work in flushing, clearing, maintaining sewer and storm drainage, pipelines, culverts, force mains, and pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in starts, stops, inspects, lubricates and adjusts pumps, valves, motors, drive shafts,  universal joints and flow rates at pumping stations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill, and ability outlined in the job description is:

Level I:

• Sufficient formal and/or informal education to provide the necessary reading and communication skills; AND
• Some prior experience in street maintenance work that would include mechanical and hydraulic repair of pumps, gates, valves, pipelines and related.

Level II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the operations and maintenance of Public Works sewage pumping stations and gravity sewer lines, equivalent to the Sewer Maintenance Worker I classification at the City of San Rafael.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Within one year of hire as a Sewer Maintenance Worker I, must possess a valid California Driver's License with a tank endorsement to drive the vactor in a training capacity.
• Level II:  Must possess a valid California Class "B" license and have a satisfactory driving record
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work underground, in confined places, in and near bacterially contaminated liquids, and in exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions. 
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work overtime and on call as needed for emergency repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, construction management, engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Eight years of increasingly responsible experience in public sector construction management, public works maintenance management, or related activity including three years of management and administrative responsibility in a municipal setting. License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

ABOUT THE POSITION

There are multiple positions full-time (38-hours per week) and part-time (20-hours per week). The current vacancies are at our family-friendly Redwood Shores Branch Library performing a wide variety of customer service and technical library work, providing services for children, adults, and families. The incumbent may also be assigned to work at other Redwood City Public Library locations. This position requires work during the day, evenings and weekend rotation (both Saturday and Sunday) and these are onsite/in-person positions. We may use the eligibility list created from this recruitment process to fill any part-time or full-time positions that occur in other Redwood City Public Library locations, during the life of the eligibility list.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Primarily provide customer service in the following capacities (but not limited to):  
  • Provide customer service experience that strives for the highest level of satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide customer service and respond to general inquiries regarding Human Resources operations from the community, employees, and job applicants.
• Process employment transactions, enter data into the human resources database, and prepare documents for the bi-monthly payroll.
• Establish, update, and maintain departmental records, files, and databases, while preserving confidentiality.
• Maintain personnel files, contract and vendor files, and assist with records management and retention.
• Assist with the coordination of recruitments.
• Maintain the Human Resources general voicemail, inboxes, and Outlook calendars. 
• Update Employee website and general HR webpage.
• Assist with the coordination of Human Resources events.

 

UPCOMING PROJECTS

• Will play a key role in the implementation and roll-out of a new Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to digitize and streamline full employment life cycle processes.
• City-wide website update.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be: 

• Two Years of general office experience involving extensive customer service. 
• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Completion of some college level coursework or certification is desired.

Desirable qualifications:

• Prior experience in a local government agency.
• Prior human resources experience in the areas of employment transaction processing, recruiting, or benefits administration.
• Bilingual, especially ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.​​​​​​
