The City of East Palo Alto is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, welcoming full-time 1-year limited-term Housing Specialist I-II. The Housing Specialist I/II performs a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the City’s affordable housing, rent stabilization, and anti-displacement programs. The position supports the development, implementation, and monitoring of housing policies, programs, and projects. The selected candidate will provide information and assistance to residents, property owners, tenants, landlords, and developers, and support the City’s efforts to increase, preserve, and manage affordable housing, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal housing regulations.

The Department

The Library and Community Services department is responsible for providing excellent customer service through recreational, educational, and cultural programs for children, adults and seniors. Our facilities include 221 acres of parkland distributed among 13 parks, two libraries, two community centers, two public pools, three childcare centers, two gymnasiums, and one gymnastics center. Included in the parks and recreation areas are tennis and pickleball courts, dog parks, softball diamonds, picnic areas, playgrounds, soccer fields, a skate park, shared use of a performing arts center and open space.  The City of Menlo Park is preparing to open a state-of-the-art new facility that will incorporate a community center, gymnasium, aquatics center, senior center, youth center, and branch library in 2024.

San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department commenced operations on January 13, 2019, and serves the cities of Belmont, Foster City, and San Mateo as a Joint Powers Authority. The Department collectively has ten engines and two trucks operating out of nine fire stations. There are 164 full-time employees assigned to one of the following divisions: Administration, Community Risk Reduction, and Fire Operations. The Department serves nearly 161,000 residents daily with a day-time population around 230,000. What You’ll Do

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws, issue correction orders as necessary.
• Investigate fires; secure fire scenes; identify types of fires; investigate causes of fire; collect, prepare, and present evidence; interview witnesses and suspects; write fire investigations; testify in court when required.
• Provide information to the public concerning the fire prevention practices and procedures; develop and conduct training programs and group presentations relative to fire prevention and fire investigation.
• Instruct fire suppression crews about code interpretation and inspection techniques regarding fire prevention.
• Draw and prepare diagrams of buildings for pre-fire planning and fire inspections.
• Check building plans for code compliance, consult with architects and developers regarding problems and solutions.
• Perform tests on water flow, sprinkler and fire alarms and elevator return systems; certify smoke detectors.
• Prepare records and reports.
• Provide information to the public in forums and meetings.

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM with occasional evening and weekend hours.

The Department

DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The emphasis of the Administrative Assistant series is on the accomplishment of general clerical and administrative support duties.

Administrative Assistant I

This is the entry level in the series. Employees perform routine duties under immediate supervision.

Administrative Assistant II

The is the journey level in the series. Employees perform both routine and more complex duties under general supervision.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Immediate supervision is provided to the Administrative Assistant I. General supervision provided to the Administrative II and III is provided by the department head of designee. The Administrative Assistant III may lead or supervise assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE

FOLLOWING:

• Maintains a system of files and records.
• Composes correspondence and prepares reports independently or from oral instructions.

Management (Budget) Analyst

Are you someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and making an impact behind the scenes?  The City of Belmont is looking for a Management (Budget) Analyst to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to make an impact through thoughtful budgeting, financial analysis, and cross-department support.

As a Management (Budget) Analyst, you'll work under the direction of a Finance Manager to help develop the City’s annual budget, support financial planning efforts, and keep key systems running smoothly. You’ll be hands-on with both day-to-day operations and longer-term projects that support Belmont’s financial health.

This position is classified as Management Analyst I or II, with the working title of Budget Analyst.
Placement will be made at either level depending on experience and department needs.

What You’ll Do:

• Assist in preparing the annual operating budget and 5-year capital improvement plan

• Maintain the City’s budget system and provide end-user support and training

• Analyze trends in revenues and expenditures, and prepare financial reports and presentations

• Coordinate budget transfers and amendments

• Manage chart of accounts alignment and process documentation

• Support payroll processes, audits, and financial system upgrades

• Research local, state, and federal regulations for financial impacts

• Collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to gather and share financial data

• Take on special projects and assist in the general administration of the Finance Department

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

About the Department

Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently seeking to fill one (1) Principal Engineer/Architect position in the City Facilities and Architectural Services (CFAS) Division. This is a limit-dated position that is anticipated to be funded through June 30, 2027, subject to further extension as appropriate. However, should this position be discontinued through the budget process, the city may seek to place you in other internal job opportunities based on your previous work experience. 

Salary range(s) for this classification is $179,076.82 - $218,123.62 annually. This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.  

The Principal Engineer/Architect will support the Library Department (LD) in leading the coordination for the Library Facilities and Customer Experience Planning. This individual will play a key leadership role in driving critical infrastructure initiatives, including supporting the implementation of the California State Library Building Forward Infrastructure Grant projects and managing capital and facilities planning processes in collaboration with the LD and consultants. This individual will act as a leader, ensuring timely and effective project execution, and delivering results that meet organizational and state funding objectives.  

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Principal Engineer/Architect will require the ability to extensively collaborate across the LD, the DPW, Planning, Building and Code Enforcement (PBCE) and other contractors/vendors, while maintaining adherence to budgets, timelines, and plans. Outstanding leadership, a high degree of accountability, and the ability to establish an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders are required to be successful in this position.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the design and construction of major public works projects, in partnership with the Library Department.  

• Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, technicians, and inspectors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and consistent services. 

• Oversee engineering/architectural or other technical research; review, analyze, and prepare recommendations to Senior and Executive staff regarding project and/or program scope or objectives. 

• Direct and coordinate the preparation of cost estimates and project and/or program budgets; monitor budgets and schedules for performance. 

• Consult with Senior and Executive staff, contractors, other departments, and consultants to plan, design, and construct major engineering/architectural and/or other technical projects. 

• Direct and coordinate the creation, planning, and management of capital budgets and staffing plans to successfully deliver capital projects. 

• Oversee the planning and execution of the procurements of design consultants and construction contracts. 

• Partner with the department’s other executive staff to lead transformation, training, and other process improvement efforts in the City’s capital improvement program. 

• Prepare technical reports and correspondence as required.
