EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

THE POSITION

Under general direction of the Water Resources Division Manager, this position serves as the Chief Plant Operator of the City’s Water Reclamation Plant (wastewater treatment). The selected candidate will plan, organize, direct and manage the operation of the Water Reclamation Plant including wastewater treatment and recycled water production. They will coordinate activities with other sections/divisions/departments, external customers, regional wastewater agencies, and contractors. This position will ensure that all regulatory compliance targets are met and act as a liaison to regulatory agencies. This position requires a valid Grade IV Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board at the time of appointment.

Position Responsibilities:

• Serves as the Chief Plant Operator for the Water Reclamation Plant
• Recommends and implements section goals and objectives
• Implements goals and objectives set by the Division Manager
• Coordinates the execution and process impacts of capital improvement projects with project managers, consultants and contractors
• Establishes performance standards, guidelines, and methods
• Develops, implements, and administers current and new programs and policies
• Sets overall process-control parameters for the wastewater treatment and water recycling facility
• Develops standard operating procedures and trains staff in order to ensure compliance with State and Federal wastewater and recycled water regulations
• Reviews and interprets operational data to effectively and quickly identify, diagnose, and correct problems with the wastewater treatment process

THE POSITION
Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projects
• Performs electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applications
• Conducts internet research and research of engineering record archives
• Processes permits and reviews land development plans
• Assists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasks
• Assists with internal and external communications and public outreach
• Learns to assist with engineering plan reviews and traffic control plans
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Education: Current student enrolled in a university/college pursuing an undergraduate degree (Junior or Senior) or graduate degree in Engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering.

DEFINITION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION REQUIREMENTS
Ability to drive and possess a valid California Operator’s license for the type of equipment driven (Class B); ability to work in a variety of confined spaces and positions, and work outside in inclement weather; ability to do heavy lifting; ability to perform work that is labor intensive with considerable bending and stooping and repetitive shoulder, arm and hand motions; must have a great deal of finger dexterity; ability to distinguish color of wires; ability to read and understand written work orders and shop manuals, and communicate with various division employees, parts houses and vendors in order to obtain parts and effect repairs. Basic Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, graders, rollers, and a variety of diesel and gasoline-powered equipment tears down motors and performs general overhauling; repairs transmissions, differentials, carburetors, distributors, fuel pumps, lights, steering gears, starters, alternators, universal joints, sirens, and hydraulic systems; aligns wheels, adjusts brakes; repairs auxiliary equipment such as hydraulic pumps and motors; builds specialized equipment; installs batteries, tires, wiring, automatic electronic systems, and brakes; welds and cuts with electric and acetylene; occasionally makes emergency repairs out of the shop.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer Paramedic job description  for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
4. Must have a valid Paramedic License from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and will need to obtain San Mateo County Paramedic accreditation prior to completing probationary period.

Required Certification and License:

Extra Help - Extra-help positions are short-term employment for up to 1040 hours which is equivalent to about six months; however, employment might end sooner depending on the needs of the hiring departments. Medical Services Assistants II who are assigned to the clinics and perform advanced patient care duties as defined in the classification specification shall receive a differential of 6.2% in addition to all other compensation.
 

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Accurately take and record the condition, respiration, pulse, temperature and blood pressure of patients; record other pertinent information as observed or measured.
• Apply non-sterile dressings and administer non-medicated treatments under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, surgeon, podiatrist, nurse practitioner or physician assistant.

Qualifications

Certification Requirement:
