Each division is led by one of two Deputy Directors, who report to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, publicly owned facilities, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, dams, and levees; as well as solid waste and environmental programs.

The Engineering Technician vacancy we currently have is in the Capital Improvement Program Division. While the Engineering Technician may perform other duties as assigned, including supporting the Transportation Division, the primary role will be managing resident service requests, drafting engineering plans, and performing field observations and analyses.

What You’ll Do

The Engineering Technician I/II performs a variety of technical drafting, office and field engineering work. The position receives immediate supervision from higher engineering personnel.

The Engineering Technician I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience and may be filled at either level. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Locate utilities, easements, property lines and other information on plans.
• Prepare topographical plan and profile maps of property and pertinent features from survey notes and legal descriptions.
• Check parcel maps, subdivisions and various other drawings.
• Participate in the preparation, filing, and retrieval of a variety of engineering maps, documents and records.
• Ink, pencil, trace and letter charts, graphs, maps, plans and other drawings; prepare miscellaneous illustrative materials such as charts and graphs on blueprint machine; monitor blueprint machine and blueprint paper supply.
• Prepare final drawings of existing improvements, rights-of-way, and other utilities using field notes, maps and photographs; check calculations used in designs and estimates.
• Fully utilize the computerized work systems in accordance with workflow processes.
• Assist in measuring accurate distances to be used in the determination of locations of boundaries, easements, improvements, structures and topographic features; keep notes on measurements made.
• Write technical specifications for various maintenance contracts; inspect work on maintenance contracts; verify quantities for payment on maintenance contracts.
• Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning engineering activities; issue permits and accept permit fees over the counter; answer questions related to maintenance projects as applicable.
• Make and check mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic engineering.
• Inspect streets, sidewalks, sewers, drains and other public works areas for maintenance needs; prepare cost estimates of labor, materials equipment necessary for maintenance projects; assist in developing work schedules.
• Prepare and maintain production and related records regarding maintenance activities.
• Maintain various technical files and departmental logs.
• Manage and respond to resident service requests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade

Experience: One year of experience in the operation of a transit vehicle.

License or Certificate: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement.
• Possession of a valid Medical Examination Certification.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within the initial training period, a Verification of Transit Training certificate.

The City of Sebastopol is seeking two diligent, energetic, dependable Administrative Technicians, one to serve in the Public Works Department and the other will serve the Building and Community Development departments. The Administrative Technician will perform a variety of technical-level administrative duties in support of an assigned City department or program. Duties may include areas relating to finance, grants, building, planning, public works, engineering, or general support of City operations. The selected candidates will conduct research, collect and analyze data, and prepare draft reports. In addition to tracking and reporting operational statistics, this position provides technical assistance to management. This is a lead position, assigning, reviewing, and training the work of other lower-level support staff.

The Administrative Technician will reflect a demonstrative cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities.

There are two assignments within the City, one located in Public Works and one in City Hall. The Administrative Technicians will be expected to cross-train as emergency coverage for any department's administrative duties.

For the position assigned to Public Works: The Administrative Technician assigned to Public Works will report to the Director of Public Works/ City Engineer at 714 Johnson Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472. This position will perform clerical duties such as answering phones, providing office support services, and ordering supplies for the department. In addition, the position will manage budget tracking operations that include Springbook reports, invoicing, and project close-outs. The Administrative Technician will oversee contract processing, special event permit processing, and California Department of Industrial Relations(DIR) registrations. The selected candidate will assist in Council agenda reports and in preparing the agenda packets. This position will also serve as the Water Conservation Coordinator, providing news to the public on drought reports and Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs) within the City.

For the position located in City Hall: The Administrative Technician will report to the City’s Building Official or Community Development Director at City Hall, 7120 Bodega Avenue, Sebastopol, CA 95472. The primary duties of this assignment will serve as the main City contact at the City’s public counter, providing support to the Building and Community Development departments. In, addition to supporting Building and Community Development in all permitting activities, this assignment involves providing administrative and analytical support for the City Clerk, Assistant City Manager and City Manager, serving as staff and support for public meetings, administering the media and public comment for assigned public meetings, tracking and responding to public records act requests, records retention assistance, assisting with records management, transcribing minutes, and updating the City’s website with official documents.  

Both positions are designed to work between departments, when necessary, to align with the strengths and interests of the incumbents, ensuring cohesive support for City departments and a tailored, enriching professional experience for the incumbents

Citrus Heights Water District is seeking a Construction Inspector / Senior Construction Inspector to join our team. The selected candidate will be placed in either classification, depending upon the applicant’s qualifications.

This position is a key member of the District’s Engineering department, playing an essential role in inspecting the construction of water distribution system improvement by contractors and by private builders and developers. As one of a six-member team, this position is responsible for ensuring that materials and workmanship meet the District’s high standards, and that construction is carried out in accordance with local, State, and Federal requirements.

• The Construction Inspector is an entry-level class in the Construction Inspector series. Positions in this class typically have little or no directly related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. The Construction Inspector class is distinguished from the Senior Construction Inspector level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the Senior Construction Inspector level. Incumbents work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to general supervision as procedures and processes of the assigned area of responsibility are learned. 
• The Senior Construction Inspector is the journey-level class in the Construction Inspector series and is distinguished from the entry-level class by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual, or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Construction Inspector level once the incumbent meets the qualification standards of the Senior Construction Inspector level, demonstrates an ability to perform the full scope of the work, and meets performance standards.
