The City of Sebastopol is seeking a dynamic, professional leader who is a collaborative problem-solver to serve as the next Planning Director. The Planning Director will direct, oversee, and materially participate in the work of the City’s Planning Department, including current and long-range planning, maintenance of the General Plan, Housing Element, and zoning codes, and review of proposals for construction and development within the City of Sebastopol. The selected candidate will coordinate activities, permits, and projects with other City departments. In addition to reviewing and preparing recommendations to the Planning Commission on development proposals, and serve as the official secretary and officer of the Planning Commission.

The Planning Director performs professional planning duties in the fields of long-range planning, current planning, and building permitting, including a variety of diverse professional planning assignments. The incumbent will oversee technical reviews and evaluations of land use and permit applications, handle the most complex customer service issues, environmental impact documents, and construction projects, and provide supervision or lead direction to professional and support staff. The director will ensure compliance with all aspects of the City’s General Plan and related ordinances and laws, and perform related work as assigned.

The Planning Director will demonstrate cultural competency working with all community members regardless of cultural differences or circumstances, including race, ethnicity, religion, language, gender identity, age, marital and familial status, sexual orientation, diverse physical and learning abilities, socioeconomic status, and other identities.

This position is exempt from the overtime regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is an “at will” classification serving at the pleasure of and receiving administrative direction from the City Manager.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Train clients safely according to current industry standards and training.
• Offer and conduct free fitness floor orientations to new customers during Fitness Floor shifts.
• Learn basic operation instruction for fitness equipment and teach these techniques to visitors. Provide corrective feedback and proper technique.
• Maintain certain class records and reports as required.
• Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising. Monitor guests’ activities in the fitness center.
• Enforce all rules and regulations.
• Recognize and respond professionally to emergencies, provide care as indicated under the scope of training.
• Assume assigned duties connected with care and maintenance of the facility.
• Provide basic maintenance, equipment care.
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, other agencies, and the general public.
• Actively attend and participate in required staff training and in-service drills.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Perform related duties as required.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Certified Personal Trainer required. Additionally, combination of education, training, and experience, that provides the required knowledge and abilities.  

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. The employee must satisfactorily complete an evaluation period before obtaining regular status. The Police Communications Dispatcher receives and processes routine and emergency calls. The incumbent will dispatch police and enter, retrieve, and use data from various automated law enforcement information systems. The successful candidate will coordinate with and transfer calls to other emergency service providers as appropriate. The individual will perform a variety of clerical and technical duties in support of the department’s operations. In addition, they will learn applicable policies, procedures, and work methods associated with assigned duties, and perform other related duties as required. This recruitment is to fill a full-time and per-diem position and create a list for anticipated future vacancies. We will be creating two lists, one for already POST-certified dispatchers and one for entry-level dispatchers.

TOWN MANAGER - TOWN OF LOOMIS

The Town Council of the Town of Loomis, California (population 6,800) is seeking an energetic and engaging individual with a commitment to public service to become its new Town Manager. The Town Manager directs, coordinates, and manages the overall administrative   activities and operations of the Town and advises and assists the Town Council while exercising significant independent judgment and initiative. In this smaller-sized entity, the Town Manager will need to be comfortable with a hands-on and collaborative approach to day-to-day  management. This will include providing strong leadership and frequent interaction with the small team (Finance, Community Development, Engineering and Public Works), fostering a    collaborative, open dialogue, and teamwork. Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works is recruiting to fill two (2) Building Inspector-Electrical Specialty, Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior positions within the Engineering Services Division, Code Inspection Section.   

The Building Inspector Combination/Certified I/II/III/Senior position will be located subject to business need. This position will provide inspection support at a variety of City of San José facilities, including the Airport, Regional Wastewater Facility and Central Service Yard.  

Key responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Conduct inspections of industrial, commercial, manufacturing, and facilities to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, ordinances, standards, and contract agreements which includes setting up inspection schedules; gathering information and evidence; and, ensuring conformance to plans, specifications, and safety regulations.   

• Investigate building, construction, and land use changes in the field by gathering factual data to ascertain present use of land and location of structures; conducting background investigations and research; and preparing reports to use as evidence.   

• Provide technical assistance for development of codes and policies.   

• Generate written reports and enforcement orders which includes noting deficiencies in standards and submitting final documentation.   

• Review plans and specifications for compliance with codes which includes assisting in projects in complying with regulations, prioritizing deficiencies, and preparing timetables.   

• Provide technical support for agencies and the public which includes inputting data into system for general public access.   

• Meet with architects, engineers, City officials, and building contractors to discuss construction projects.   

• Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
