The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department seeks motivated, self-driven individuals passionate about working with the public. The City of Hayward is seeking a Senior Utilities Engineer with a water and/or wastewater background to supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the activities of the Utilities Division. The Senior Utilities Engineer is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs engineering activities including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding, services during construction and construction management for a variety of projects in wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution, sewer collection, and storm water management. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of wastewater treatment and related water/wastewater infrastructure projects. This position will serve as a key member of the team that will manage and deliver a $100 million treatment system upgrade for the City’s Water Pollution Control Facility (WPCF) to incorporate nutrient removal into the treatment process.  
 
DEFINITION
Under general direction, supervise, direct, plan, and coordinate the assigned functions and activities of the Engineering Section of the Utilities Division.
 
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a mid-management level position that performs, oversees, and directs all assigned activities of the Utilities engineering section, including planning, conceptual design, final design, cost estimating, project bidding process, services during construction and construction management for variety of projects in water distribution, sewer collection, storm water management, and wastewater treatment.  This position is distinguished from that of subordinate Associate Civil Engineer position by its responsibility for the supervision of assigned engineering and technical staff, in addition to engineering and technical responsibilities for project development, design, and construction management for more complex projects.  This position is distinguished from Deputy Director of Public Works for Utilities by the latter position's overall responsibility for all aspects of the Utilities Division functions.
 
 

• Principles and practices of civil engineering.

Experience:  Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in professional engineering work in the design and construction of water and wastewater projects including one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.
 
Education:   Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in civil engineering, or a closely related field with major work in civil engineering.  A master's degree is desirable.
 
Licenses and Certificates: Possession and maintenance of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer (Civil or Mechanical) in the State of California.
 
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license.

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Police Officer. THE POSITION:

DEFINITION

To operate a computer aided dispatch system receiving calls and dispatching police, fire or other City services.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is a journey technical level position in which incumbents are expected to independently perform the full range of duties assigned. This class is distinguished from the Communications Supervisor in that the latter provides technical and functional supervision over assigned communication personnel.

The Communications Center in the Support Services Division of the Hayward Police Department is responsible for dispatching both Police and Fire Services throughout the City of Hayward. The Hayward Police Department is one of 18 CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement) accredited police departments in California and is committed to maintaining CALEA's high standards and broadly recognized excellence.
The Communications Center is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public will have when requesting assistance from the City of Hayward. The information gathered by the communications operator during this contact is critical to a positive outcome. The Communications Center consists of six (6) stations with each communications operator assigned to a specific job.
 


 

Essential Duties

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: 

Receives emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, private companies and other jurisdictions.

Dispatches police and fire personnel or other City services in response to such calls.

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.

Licenses and Certificates: Completion of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Basic Public Safety Dispatcher course is highly desirable.

Typing Certificate: A typing certificate with 35net words per minute must accompany your application.

Candidates must submit a completed City of Hayward job application and typing certificate, which fully describe the nature of their professional experience and qualifications.  Be sure to scan and attach a copy of your typing certificate to your on-line application; however certificates may also be emailed to employment@hayward-ca.gov, no later than the date of the oral exam should you be invited to participate. Please be sure to indicate your first name and last name in the email and the position the typing certificate should be applied to.   Applications submitted without all required materials will not be considered.

*Candidates must submit a completed job application and valid typing certificate as described in this bulletin to be reviewed.  Candidates may also provide a POST Dispatcher T-Score of 48 or above from within the last 12 months of the application date by no later than 15 days in advance of the written examination  or participate in the City's administration of the POST Dispatcher Test.

The examination process will result in a ranked eligible register of candidates for hiring consideration by the department.  Actual hire depends on success in the departmental selection process.

Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

  • Applicants must attach a passing PELLETB or NTN  score when applying.
  • Scores that are within one year of the application date and that meet the minimum passing score will be accepted. Applicants can take and submit results for either of the two tests below.
    • NTN Law Enforcement Exam: Minimum passing score of 65% for video, 70% for reading and 70% for writing. Virtual and in-person options are available for NTN. A screenshot of your NTN scores must be attached to your application.
    • POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): Minimum passing score of 49.
