About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Management Analyst, the Communications Intern will contribute to a wide range of public information and outreach activities.  The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, responsible, detail oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.  You will help craft digital content, support public engagement campaigns, and represent the City in a professional and tactful manner.

The position offers flexible part-time hours of up to 15-20 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for community events.  Compensation is on an hourly basis for actual hours worked.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Create and edit content for the City's website, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor), newsletters, flyers, and press materials.
• Capture and document City events and programs through photography, video, and interviews.
• Assist with the scheduling and management of social media content.
• Support updates to the City's website and weekly e-newsletters.
• Participate in community outreach events, help at public meetings, and collect community feedback.
• Research and design basic visual materials for presentations and public campaigns.
• Track engagement analytics across digital platforms and compile reports to guide communication strategies.
• Conducts basic office functions such as data entry and file management.

Required Qualifications:

• Enrollment in or recent completion of a degree in communications, journalism, public relations, graphic design, public administration or a closely related field.
• Proficiency in Canva, Microsoft Office, and social media platforms.

• Ability to work in a standard office environment including ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and lift 20 lbs.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Flexible and adaptable with the ability to learn quickly while maintaining high quality work.
• Experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of basic public communications, social media, and/or media relations.
• Strong communication (written and oral), research, and organizational skills.
• Competency in basic computer programs/applications such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and design tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite

The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a forward-thinking and results-driven Budget Officer to play a pivotal leadership role in the Finance Department. As the strategic leader of the City’s biennial budget process, the Budget Officer collaborates with all departments, provides key insights to executive leadership, and ensures transparent, data-informed decision-making. With the City currently implementing a new budget software, the successful candidate will take ownership of the system and be responsible for producing the final budget documents in both print and digital formats. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Budget Strategy, Development, and Reporting 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial Operating and Capital Improvement budgets  

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s biennial User Fees, Fines, and Penalties Schedule 

• Lead the development and administration of the City’s annual Cost Allocation Plan  

• Collaborate with departments to align financial resources with City goals and priorities 

• Develop multi-year financial forecasts and monitor trends to support long-term planning  

• Write clear, concise, and effective staff reports to communicate complex financial information to City leadership and the public 

• Prepare and present budget reports and other financial information for internal and external stakeholders 

System Implementation and Innovation 

• Take ownership of the City’s new budget software system and the development of the online and PDF versions of the Adopted Operating and CIP budgets  

• Streamline and improve the City’s Monthly Financial Report  

• Play a key role in the planning and implementation of the City’s future ERP system replacement 

• Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative processes 

 Financial Reporting & Capital Management 

• Oversee capital asset budgeting and coordinate with departments on project funding and tracking  

• Analyze financial and operational data to provide insights and recommendations to executive leadership 

• Develop tools and reports to improve transparency and decision-making across the organization 

Leadership & Collaboration

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources.

The Position

The Multipurpose Senior Service Program (MSSP) Case Manager will perform professional and clinical social work tasks and duties for older adults living with complex medical conditions to assist them to obtain optimum health, financial, and/or social services. As a member of the Human Services Department, this position reports to a Clinical Supervisor in the Aging and Family Services Division.

This is a regular, part-time position (32 hours/week) and will receive pro-rated benefits.

Examples of Job Duties

• Manage a caseload of 28-32 clients comprised of older individuals with complex medical conditions.
• Conduct comprehensive client assessments and develop and monitor service plan.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least two years of full-time experience equivalent to Housing Inspector or Building Inspector or Code Enforcement Inspector for a public agency. 

Must possess:

• An International Code Council (ICC) OR California (CA) certification in Residential Building or Housing Inspection or in Code Enforcement; and
• ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Electrical Inspector certification and ICC or CA Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector certification, or equivalent ICC or CA Legacy Certification for either Combination Inspector or Combination Dwelling Inspector.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

The Public Works Department is made up of four divisions: Engineering, Building Inspection, Maintenance, and Environmental Services. The City Engineer will be a key leadership position oversees the Engineering Division, ensuring the efficient delivery of public works projects, transportation initiatives, and infrastructure improvements that enhance the quality of life for our residents. 

The incumbent in this position will be instrumental in directing the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects, overseeing both city-led developments and private sector contributions. This includes the review and approval of subdivision maps, street designs, stormwater management, and adherence to city and state standards for engineering projects. As a vital contributor to the City’s long-term development, the City Engineer will manage the City's Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), ensuring that infrastructure projects are aligned with the needs of our growing community.

• Leadership & Supervision: Direct the activities of the Engineering Division by assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of staff and ensure that city projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with legal requirements. 

• Project Oversight: Lead the development and implementation of major street, transportation, and capital projects through plan and specification review, bidding process management, and construction and inspection. 

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all private development and public improvement plans comply with state and local codes, including the preparation and review of subdivision maps and stormwater management initiatives.
