There is one (1) full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineer vacancy in the Engineering Division. 

Under direction, the Senior Civil Engineer, plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work performed by their staff and ensures that projects are completed efficiently and effectively for the public good. Informing the public and Board of Supervisors, selecting consultants, preparing contract documents, reviewing project plans and specifications prepared by consultants, and administering contracts during construction are performed by the Senior Civil Engineer. 

Signing bonus:
In addition to a competitive compensations package, new, full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineers are eligible to receive a $10,000 signing bonus which will be split into two equal payments: 50% at time of hire (i.e. first paycheck) and the remaining 50% after successful completion of their probationary period.

Hybrid schedule:
The Department of Public Works has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. However, the successful candidate must be able to report to County facilities for meetings, work assignments, and/or disaster service work upon short notice, as needed and deemed appropriate. During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: current Lifeguard Certification and CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard First Aid is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

Position Duties

The Office of Vice Mayor Rosemary Kamei is seeking a dedicated Council Aide with experience in the political landscape. Position Summary

Under general direction of the Secretary of the District, performs complex and highly analytical work for the Secretary of the District, members of the Board of Directors and associated committees.   Departmental lead on government tort claims, legal documents and communications and participating in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work in the areas of budgets, historical preservation and economic, regulatory and administrative policy. Provides internal customer service by assisting managers and executive level staff in complex analysis.  This position requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, and robust customer service skills. 
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary analytical support to the District Secretary;
• Interprets meeting proceedings and prepares draft meeting minutes, with minimal oversight and as assigned, may attend meetings in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs legal functions of the office and guidance to office staff in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs a wide variety of complex legal analysis, research and briefings about claims for the District, Bridge, Bus and Ferry Divisions, and works with legal counsel in the areas such as government tort claims, subpoenas, Brady requests, small claims and lawsuits;
• Provides a wide variety of complex, confidential analytical duties in support of the District Secretary, Board of Directors, and standing Board committees;
• Independently composes, researches, compiles, summarizes, and prepares a variety of complex correspondence, reports and documents; reviews finished materials for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents comply with District standards, policies and procedures;
• Perform special studies for the District, and coordinates assigned activities with other District departments, and divisions, and outside entities;
• Independently responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints;
• Coordinates and assists in the development of the annual budgets of the Board and District Secretary’s Office and monitors, reviews and approves department expenditures, and performs financial analysis for budgetary purposes;
• Assists the District Secretary with providing direct support in varied, analytical administrative projects related to the Board and its committees;
• Independently prepares and presents a variety of oral and written reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses with extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
• Works with Procurement to select vendors and purchase department services as needed for projects, and participates on panels for various District procurements especially those related to the District’s third party administrators for public liability and workers compensation, insurance advisors and e-document conversion;
• Has an in-depth understanding of the department’s functions and especially its role with the Board of Directors such as the steps involved in planning and executing Board events and maintaining key Board documents such as Rules of the Board, Master Ordinance and record of the Board’s proceedings;
• Autonomously draft client correspondence and legal documents, using proper format and appropriate language and content;
• Oversees newspaper advertisements for public hearings/meetings;
• Monitors activities and ensures maintenance of files related to insurance and accident claim matters to fulfill department records retention schedule;
• Engages with a wide variety of District representatives including the Board of Directors, Executive Team, mid-managers and staff in a wide variety of roles including those engaged in specialized trades;
• Performs additional related duties as assigned; and
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required.

The Agency has an opening for a part-time (hourly intermittent) Accounting Technician on the Finance team. This position serves under the direction of the Financial Services Manager or designee and provides assistance with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as well as various other functions related to financial operations.

Approximately two days per week.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade

Experience: One year of experience in the operation of a transit vehicle.

License or Certificate: Possession of an appropriate, valid commercial driver’s license with passenger endorsement. Possession of a valid Medical Examination Certification. Possession of, or ability to obtain within the initial training period, a Verification of Transit Training certificate.

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and consultants for conformance with plans, specifications, and City requirements; prepare and administer grants and give professional advice on landscape matters.

The mission of the San Jose Police Department is to create safe places to live, work and learn through community partnerships. 

Position Duties

The City of San Jose is recruiting for a part-time School Crossing Guards in the Police Department during the normal school year.  Work involves providing for the safe conduct of elementary and junior high school children across heavily traveled streets and reporting problems requiring possible police action. Positions may involve substituting at different corners or a regular location assignment.  In general, these assignments are a split shift with approximately ten (10) hours per week.  School Crossing Guards are required to work outside regardless of weather conditions and must be able to provide a uniform as specified by the Police Department.   Work includes outside duties and exposure to weather.  Work may include the physical ability to sit, stand, walk quickly, step up/down from the curb, reach, push and/or pull, twist and or rotate, bend, lift and carry up to 10 pounds, use hands hold and use a stop sign the entire shift, use other hand to stop traffic and use a whistle at the same.

Overview:

The Program Administrator (Contracts Supervisor) plans, organizes, supervises, and coordinates the procurement by contract of professional consultant services (architectural engineering "A/E" and non-A/E consultants) and specialized Valley Water activities, and coordinates and oversees contract administration activities.  The Program Administrator works on contracts that are highly complex and sensitive in nature, where substantial judgment and initiative are essential in making recommendations and resolving problems. This is a management and leadership position with oversight of a team of contract professionals. This position reports to the Manager of the Purchasing and Consultant Contracts Unit, within the General Services Division.

• 3+ years of increasingly responsible supervisory experience of staff is preferred.

• Procurement of professional services requiring specific licensure, including architectural and engineering services.

• Principles and practices of supervision, training, and constructive discipline.
• Contract cost analysis, negotiations, and contract development.
• Accounting principles and practices

Ideal Training and Education:

• Bachelor's degree in business or public administration or closely related field

Under direction of the Chief Building/Fire Code Official, performs complex residential and commercial inspections of buildings and structures in various stages of construction, alteration and repair for compliance with applicable building, accessibility, energy and zoning codes and ordinances; responds to inquiries from the public, applicants, contractors and other City staff and departments; performs related duties as required.
