The City of Sunnyvale is hiring (1) full-time Senior Building Inspector in the Department of Community Development.

Sunnyvale is a dynamic city in the heart of Silicon Valley. Construction activities continue to grow with a wide range of project types, including tech manufacturing, hazardous occupancies, single-family residential, and multistory mixed-use, multifamily, and commercial buildings.

This position shares the responsibility of supervising 9 experienced inspectors with another Senior Building Inspector. The Building Division is a cohesive and supportive unit that helps each other navigate code compliance and enforcement issues.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

An Associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units in engineering technology, architecture, construction management or related field; AND
Four years of professional, full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency,

OR

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND
Four years of professional, full-time experience as a building inspector with a public agency and two years as a licensed general contractor.

Licenses/Certificates:
Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record.
Possession and continued maintenance of ICC Certifications:  Building Inspector (B1 and B2), Electrical Inspector (E1 and E2), Plumbing Inspector (P1 and P2), and Mechanical Inspector (M1 and M2).

The City of Foster City is seeking a qualified Senior Building Inspector who is detail-oriented and has the knowledge and experience in the areas of building inspection and safety and code compliance to join the Building Division of our Community Development Department. The Department consists of Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement Divisions and is headed by Community Development Director. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. A desired course of additional education would include two (2) years of college course work in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Inspection, or completion of an Apprenticeship Program in a building construction related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience to include a minimum of one (1) year full-time plan check experience and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in a variety of municipal building inspection work.

Licenses, Certificates, Registration

• Possession of the International Code Council (I.C.C.) Plans Examiner Certificate and Full Combination Building Inspector Certificate.

Special Requirements
Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications; perform complex building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical inspections; interpret and apply provisions of pertinent codes and regulations, prepare accurate and concise reports; acquire and demonstrate skill supervising and managing work of others; learn administrative techniques, methods and procedures of personnel management and other skills required to assist in management of the Division operations; establish and assist in developing improvements to computerized Division operations; establish and maintain cooperative working relations with engineers, architects, contractors and the general public; attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Community Development Department will make the hiring decision.

Under general supervision, the Permit Technician performs a variety of technical duties in support of the Community Development Department; serves as staff for the permit and public counter and assists the public with technical information related to the issuance of permit applications, including the process and any related fees; uses specialized database/permit tracking management programs; and performs related work as required.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development Department is responsible for ensuring a sustainable and vibrant community that supports a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. The Housing Authority is seeking a team-oriented candidate to plan and manage the asset management function of the Housing Authority’s real estate portfolio including the housing assets owned by AHA’s affiliates. The Senior Asset Manager conducts financial, physical and regulatory performance review; develops and monitors capital needs assessment programs; and reviews, recommends and implements financing or refinancing schemes at multi-family and tax credit properties, in addition to providing highly responsible and complex professional assistance to the Directors of, Housing Development and Property Operations. The Senior Asset Manager may supervise one or more junior staff.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision of the Supervising Construction Inspector, the Lead Construction Inspector performs complex and specialized inspection work related to public works construction projects. Responsibilities include inspecting work quality and materials to ensure conformance with approved plans, specifications, codes, and regulations; coordinating field activities; providing technical guidance to inspection staff; and maintaining records and preparing reports related to assigned projects.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Serves as a technical lead in the field, providing guidance and expertise to inspection staff on complex or non-standard construction issues.

• Provides day-to-day field direction, coordinates work assignments, and offers input to supervisory staff regarding inspector performance and project staffing needs.

• Provides on-the-job training and mentoring to inspection staff in proper inspection techniques, interpretation of plans and specifications, and application of codes, standards and regulations.

• Promotes consistent application of codes, rules, and regulations through field coordination and communication with inspection staff and supervisory personnel.

• Coordinates and performs contract administration activities for assigned projects, including reviewing submittals, tracking quantities, and assisting with change orders, extra work orders, contractor claims, and progress payments. 

• Reviews plans and specifications of assigned projects; identifies potential constructability issues and communicates concerns to engineering and supervisory staff.

• Inspects materials and various structures including utilities, streets, sidewalks, gutters and other off-site construction and related infrastructure; checks line, grade, size, elevation and location for conformance to specifications and regulations.

• Observes work during progress and upon completion; ensures adherence to safety practices and applicable regulations.

• Monitors, inspects and documents work performed under capital improvement projects and encroachment or grading permits; verifies compliance with approved plans and permit conditions.

• Records quantities of materials used and work performed; prepares reports and documentation to support progress payments and project records.

• Performs basic engineering calculations related to quantities, grades, and elevations; compares field measurements to design plans.

• Coordinates and communicates field-related design clarifications between City staff, engineers, contractors, and developers.

The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Division Manager, leads and manages the New Development Review Team, overseeing the review and delivery of complex private development projects. This role ensures that development projects align with the City of San José’s and department’s transportation priorities, multimodal policies, and regulatory requirements.

The position provides technical leadership across the development review process and serves as a key liaison with internal partners, external stakeholders, and the public. As a unit lead, the Senior Engineer supervises staff, manages workload, and supports the consistent, high-quality implementation of City transportation policies and standards.

 

 

Position Duties

The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill 1 vacancy for the Senior Engineer position.   • 250+ development applications annually
  • 200+ improvement plans

• Conduct and oversee technical review of roadway design, traffic signal modifications, streetscape improvements, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
• Review technical reports, traffic studies, and memorandums to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and policies.
• Manage and advance complex and high-profile development projects like Pleasant Hills Golf Course and LS Power, ensuring adherence to aggressive schedules and key milestones.

• Synthesize and coordinate input across departments to support timely decision-making and high-quality project outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with the City’s General Plan, multimodal policies, Complete Streets standards, and transportation design guidelines.
• Develop and review roadway design parameters and planlines for development projects; assign and monitor deadlines for in-house conceptual design tasks.
• Plan, implement, and monitor program activities, including workload distribution, performance metrics, and continuous process improvements.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of Citywide transportation design guidelines and standards.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Weighmaster in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! Working in the scale house at the solid waste transfer station, the Weighmaster is responsible for assessing incoming loads and providing direction to customers.

In this role, you will weigh vehicles entering and leaving the transfer station; estimate volumes of small loads and assess contents; collect established fees for dumping; provide information and direct customers; and use personal computers for data collection, computation, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting.
 

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to completion of high school and either three (3) years of solid waste collection and disposal experience, or three (3) years of general office or accounting support work experience. Prior experience in refuse collection and/or experience in handling of hazardous materials is desirable.

Other requirements include:
Must be bondable and able to work early morning, evening, holiday and weekend shifts in a dusty, windy environment without restrictions. Within a six (6) month probationary period must successfully complete four (4) weeks of full-time equivalent on-the-job training to prepare the employee to assume the full range of Weighmaster duties, as certified by senior supervisory staff. Successful completion of classes in Customer Service Dispute/Conflict Resolution is desirable.

The City of Foster City is looking for a Building/Fleet Maintenance Superintendent who will oversee the Building and Fleet Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating diverse and specialized building and fleet maintenance and repair functions.

This position manages and develops outside contracts, vendors, and project budgets; assures regulatory compliance and economy in all programs; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; provides responsible and technical staff assistance; and performs duties as assigned. The ideal candidate would be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by specialized training or coursework in construction trades, maintenance, automotive technology, or repair, and/or supervision.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a journey-level mechanic performing vehicle and equipment repairs or general repair and maintenance in one or more of the building trades, of which two (2) years should be in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of ,or the ability to obtain, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in air conditioning, brakes, and electrical systems is highly desired.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Building Operator Certification Level 1 and 2 is highly desired.
