POSITION SUMMARY

Under supervision (Account Clerk I) or general supervision (Account Clerk II), performs a wide variety of responsible clerical and technical accounting work involved in performing financial record keeping and reporting duties in support of assigned accounting system, function, or program area including in the areas of utility billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, business licenses, and revenue collection and cash management; provides information and assistance to the general public and City departments; maintains file and records; and performs a variety of clerical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This is a broad classification with individual positions assigned to specific functional areas; duties and assignments may overlap depending on the operational needs of the department and staffing levels.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Account Clerk I - This is the entry-level class in the Account Clerk series performing the more routine and less complex clerical accounting support and customer service assignments while learning City policies and procedures. Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Account Clerk II level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. This classification is flexibly staffed with Account Clerk II. Advancement to the “II” level is based on demonstrated proficiency in performing the assigned functions and is at the discretion of higher level supervisory or management staff.

Account Clerk II - This is the full journey level class within the Account Clerk series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Account Clerk I by the performance of the full range of clerical accounting support duties as assigned including performing the full scope of clerical financial record keeping transactions, customer service functions, and related support duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and are generally filled by advancement from the “I” level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience. Advancement to the “II” level is based on management judgment and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of job duties. This classification is distinguished from the Senior Account Clerk in that the latter is responsible for the more complex and difficult technical duties within the area of assignment and may provide lead direction to other Account Clerk positions.

1.       Perform a variety of responsible clerical accounting and financial office support duties in support of assigned accounting system, function, or program area including in the areas of utility billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, business licenses, and revenue collection and cash management.

5.       Prepare daily City deposits and post appropriate journal entries.

About the Department

THE DEPARTMENT AND POSITION

The Department of Public Works is recruiting for a Street Maintenance Worker I/II to perform a variety of manual and semiskilled tasks involving the construction, repair, maintenance, and cleaning of streets, sidewalks, other concrete structures, storm drainage and related Public Works facilities.  The Street Maintenance Worker operates light power driven, hand-held, and "walk behind" equipment.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Prepares and installs traffic signs and related posts per specifications.
• Places traffic barriers and warning signs and directs traffic.

• Assists in emergency repairs of Public Works facilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school to provide necessary reading and communication skills;
• Prior experience in the operation of power driven equipment or previous maintenance experience is desirable but not required.

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and construction of Public Works facilities equivalent to the Street Maintenance Worker I.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Street Maintenance Worker I:

• Valid California Driver's License
• Must obtain a Class B license prior to passing probation

Street Maintenance Worker II:

• Valid California Driver's License

Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, traffic control, curbs, gutters, signs and markings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a vacancy in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position/assignment and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have prior experience in road maintenance, including work on sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters. While this experience is preferred, it is not required. The candidate must be able to follow directions accurately and demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing. They should be punctual, maintain good attendance, and have a positive attitude. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential, along with a willingness to learn new skills and take on additional responsibilities as needed. This position requires flexibility, including availability for overtime, weekend shifts, and holiday work when necessary. While a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred, it is not mandatory at the time of hire.

Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. The Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Maintenance Worker II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods. This position is required to work any shift, weekends and holidays as needed.

Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Maintenance Worker I in that incumbents perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment. The Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the Maintenance Worker I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere. This position is required to meet all Standby Program requirements, take standby duty, and to work any shift, weekends and holidays as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist other departments in addressing Right of Way (ROW) issues within the city, this may include homeless camps, illegal dumping and blight related issues

About the Position

The City of San Carlos is seeking a full-time Associate Engineer in our Public Works Department. This position performs professional and technical civil engineering work in support of the City’s public works and private development projects. Responsibilities will range from simpler projects and to more complex ones. Employees in this job class provide general engineering support and direction to a variety of public and private projects. Projects worked on may include civil works projects including: roads, drainage, grading, buildings, water and wastewater pipelines and treatment facilities, tanks, generators, parks and landscaping, bike paths, environmental mitigation and other related subjects.

The Associate Engineer is distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the level of experience in the field of municipal engineering and the level of job knowledge.  This is a more specialized class wherein incumbents are charged with performing a wide variety of complex engineering assignments and having a much broader range of knowledge, skills and abilities.

Employees in this classification work under general supervision of the Principal Engineer. Employees in the Engineer positions are not directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of other engineering staff; however, they may provide supervision of work product to other engineers, inspectors, technicians or intern staff.

Essential Duties

• Plans, directs, participates and effectively completes moderately complex projects. This technical work involves engineering, surveying, construction or other activities related to the civil engineering profession.
• Manages assigned projects, serving as the project lead and ensuring that all aspects of the project are addressed and completed professionally.

• Perform studies, research files, records, plans, and maps.
• Gathers, assembles, analyzes and interprets field data, and prepares reports.

• Assists in preparing and managing budgets for operation and capital improvement programs.
• Coordinates work with regulatory agencies and private entities, completing public relations work as needed or assigned.
• Prepare reports and delivers presentations to City and private groups as assigned.
• Applies for and obtains permits from local, state and federal agencies.

The City of Redwood City Invites Applications for Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director. 

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Redwood City (pop. 86,754), is the third largest city in San Mateo County. More than 30 unique parks, ten sports fields, a senior center, and five community centers are popular with the community.
 
Reporting to the City Manager, the Director oversees a $26.83 million FY 2024-25 Department budget and 71.96 full-time equivalent employees. The ideal candidate will be an experienced parks and recreation leader who values collaboration and community input, equity, and inclusion. Department staff will appreciate a thoughtful and approachable leader who understands the challenges of delivering diverse programs while planning, building, and maintaining facilities and parks. Experience overseeing public art programs, coordinating safety net services, and more traditional parks and recreation responsibilities is desired.
