Next Generation Regional Internship Program

In conjunction with the Two-County (San Mateo and Santa Clara) Regional Internship Program, the City of South San Francisco offers paid summer internship opportunities for current undergraduate and graduate college students who are interested in contributing to the community. An internship with the City of South San Francisco offers valuable, real-world job experience in a local government setting. Through this internship, you will gain exposure to a wide variety of programs and services, while enhancing and sharpening your writing, presentation, research, analysis, and critical thinking skills. As part of the Two-County Regional Internship Program, this experience will also be supplemented with learning forums and access to professionals in your interested field.

These paid positions are part-time and do not include benefits. The intern position is a temporary assignment for summer 2025. These positions include flexible scheduling and College/University credit may be provided, as applicable. Interns receive direction and guidance from a supervisor who is traditionally part of the management staff.

Project Description

Under supervision, the History Room Intern will perform archival work including processing collections, creating discovery tools (e.g. finding aids, social media posts, etc.), creating metadata for a photograph collection, creating historic displays, assisting in organizing a public program, and planning an oral history project.      

The intern will gain an on-the-job understanding of archival standards and best practices and gain experience working with a variety of archival materials while increasing public knowledge and access to historic collections through programming and creation of discovery tools, increasing the diversity of the archive through work. 

A 2.5% supervisory differential will apply.

Substitution

Under general supervision, the Electric Motor Repair Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of a variety of electric motors, generators, appliances, power tools, control auxiliaries and related electrical components.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code and are not intended to be an inclusive list:

1. Maintains, rebuilds, and/or repairs a variety of electric motors and other electrical devices, equipment, and machinery such as D.C. and A.C. single and three-phase motors, switches, controls, power tools, heaters, testing equipment, magnetic contactors, motor generators, batteries, and other related electrical equipment.
2. Inspects, diagnoses, and/or tests parts and equipment using megger, surge tester, hi-potential tester, bar to bar tester, and other test equipment in accordance with departmental safety standards.
3. Rewinds windings in stators, armatures and coils in AC and DC electric motors and equipment.
4. Cleans parts, tools, and equipment during the course of repair and performs routine tasks with appropriate cleaning materials/equipment.
5. Reads, understands and interprets maintenance manuals, schematic drawings and plans such as machine specifications, blueprints, layout work and drawings.
6. Drives other non-revenue vehicles as required.
7. Operates hand, pneumatic, portable power and machine tools such as, drill presses, grinders, wire crimpers, band saws, cutters and oxy-acetylene torches in accordance with departmental safety standards.
8. Maintains various written documents such as record of work performed and job reports.
9. Communicates and advises with supervisors, co-workers and others on assignments and other work-related matters.
10. Performs other related duties as needed.

Nature of Work: requires physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; and working with high voltage equipment.  May also involve possible exposure to dust and chemical fumes, which may require wearing of a respirator and other personal protective equipment; and working in inclement weather and conditions where minor injuries may occur.

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Experience:
Six (6) years of full-time verifiable experience of which two (2) years must have been as a journey-level electric motor repair technician, where duties included the electrical and mechanical repair of all types of motors, motor-generators, coils, stator and armature windings, and troubleshooting control circuitry and related devices.

Substitution:
Training in a recognized four (4) year apprenticeship program in electric motor winding repair may substitute for up to four (4) years of the required non-journey-level experience on a year-for-year basis.

License:
Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Note: Appointees to the position will be required to successfully complete the National Safety Council Forklift Truck Operators training course conducted by the SFMTA.

Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be invited to participate in a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas that may include but not be limited to: knowledge of fundamentals of electricity related to electric motor winding, materials knowledge, ability to use hand and power tools, ability to read schematics and drawings, knowledge of safety.

Eligibility List/Score Report: 
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request, once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. About the Position

The Rules and Strategic Policy Division works with all levels of the Air District, including staff, management, executives, and Board members in developing and modifying Air District rules to provide emissions reductions to improve air quality both regionally and at the neighborhood level and protect the climate. The Senior Rule Development Engineer (Senior Air Quality Engineer) will: 

• Work closely with professional and technical staff and perform complex scientific research and economic analyses and engineering work for developing regulations to control air pollutants (including those contributing to climate change and contributing to localize air quality impacts in overburdened communities).
• Review and draft regulatory language, develop and implement cost effectiveness and incremental cost effectiveness calculations for a wide variety of sources in an industrial sector with a variety of control options.
• Analyze emissions inventories to determine baseline emissions and reduction estimates for rules under development. 
• Review environmental and socioeconomic analyses required by statute.
• Develop testing and verification procedures. 
• Advise Air District managers, brief executives, and present at workshops, committee meetings and board hearings.
• Work closely with the Community Engagement Section staff and other Air District divisions to strengthen partnerships with key community stakeholders.
• Manage external work duties and efforts of various contractors.
• Perform related work as assigned.

DEFINITION

Under direction, provides lead direction to engineering staff and performs the more difficult and complex professional engineering work in a variety of areas such as permit application evaluation, toxic risk screening and assessment evaluations, compliance audits and source testing; modeling and source inventory; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the specialist level class in this series. In addition to performing the more difficult and complex engineering work, responsibilities include functioning as the project leader for a variety of engineering projects, providing training to other District staff and coordinating technical data gathering and compilation and the preparation of special and technical reports. This class is distinguished from Supervising Air Quality Engineer in that the latter supervises the staff and participates in the activities of assigned air quality engineering responsibilities.

This is the advanced lead level in the professional engineering series. Incumbents provide lead direction to air quality engineers and performs highly specialized and difficult engineering projects. Incumbents are assigned to design and implement programs that require considerable professional knowledge and the use of independent judgement. This class is distinguished from the Principal Air Quality Engineer in that the latter has the responsibility for developing new programs and handling the most difficult, sensitive, or critical projects.

The County of Yuba is recruiting for the position of Social Worker III/III Master’s Level in the Child and Adult Protective Services Division of the Health & Human Services Department in an effort to establish an eligibility list for future vacancies. Under general supervision, incumbents are fully competent to independently perform the most complex and sensitive social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; identify, access and document abuse and neglect cases; provide counseling and support services to children and parents; refer clients to services; prepare detailed, complex court documents and testify in court as required; and perform related work as assigned.
