Under general supervision, the Landscape Worker I performs a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure, including parks, park facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, irrigation systems and controllers, trees, and medians; uses and operated a variety of manual and power tools and light to heavy power driven equipment; and performs related work as required.

Ideal Candidate

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Performs maintenance and repair activities of City parks and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient access for the public, including parks, recreation facilities and buildings, landscaped areas, trees, and medians.

• Performs a variety of landscape construction and maintenance duties, including planting, irrigating, fertilizing, and maintaining flowers, shrubs, and trees; trimming and pruning trees in street landscaped areas; performing weed abatement using a chemical sprayer; irrigating, mowing, and fertilizing turf; removing fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs, and related debris; raking leaves and clearing debris from walkways, fields, and other facilities; picking up trash and emptying receptacles.

• Performs a variety of duties in the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems; changes and adjust heads; maintains controllers; participates in performing irrigation system installation and maintenance projects.

• Maintains parks and landscaped areas in a clean and safe condition, including picking up trash and maintaining trash receptacles; cleaning and maintaining restrooms.

• Operates and maintains a variety of light, medium, and heavy equipment and hand and power tools related to the maintenance and repair of City parks and related facilities.

• Observes safe work methods and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required

• Maintains public facilities, shop and garage areas, storage sites, and other work areas in a clean and orderly condition, including securing equipment at the close of the workday.

• Maintains accurate logs, reports, and records of work performed and materials and equipment used.

• Receives and acts upon complaints, referrals, and concerns from the public; responds to and performs work in emergency situations as required.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. 

Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of parks and/or related facilities is desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B Driver’s License by time of appointment; possession and maintenance of Qualified Applicator certificate issued by the State of California.

Benefits Overview:

The City offers a healthy cafeteria benefits program including choices among plan options for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and short and long-term disability. 

Retirement:  The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security. Classic employees – 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees – hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employees who have experienced a 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3-year average compensation

Sick Leave: 96 hours of sick leave per year. 

Vacation: Employees can earn 120 hours a year

Holidays: 11 authorized holidays per year, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.

Education and Wellness Reimbursement: Employees may request reimbursement for $2,000 of approved education expenditures; $1,000 of that amount may be spent on selected wellness benefits and items.

Union Membership: This position is non-exempt and is part of the Service Employees’ International Union (SEIU 1021).

HOUSING OFFICER

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Officer to oversee the Housing Division in the Community Development Department, responsible for the City's affordable housing programs, human services funding, federal grants and homeless services. The ideal candidate will be a passionate affordable housing professional known for being creative and solution-oriented and will be well-versed in state and federal housing legislation and familiar with the unique challenges presented by California's housing market. This position manages the City's varied federal, state and local housing programs and projects and is responsible for managing the technical, fiscal and policy aspects of complex projects and programs. This position serves as liaison to the Housing and Human Services Commission which advises the City Council on funding and policy related to affordable housing and human services. The Housing Officer needs to work collaboratively with the Director, the other two program managers, the Housing Division staff, and many directors and program managers in other City Departments. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

A paraprofessional classification requiring administrative, analytical, and specialized technical skills to perform semi-complex municipal planning duties. The role is distinguished from lower classifications by its scope of work and requirements for specialized training and technical proficiency in planning. This classification performs recurring tasks and solves problems independently under general supervision from the department director or assigned supervisor, and does not exercise supervision over staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Actual work may vary based on department needs or change due to evolving business practices.

• Perform a wide range of administrative, operational, and technical tasks supporting planning programs and functions.
• Process, review, and evaluate plans, required planning documents and construction plans for completeness, consistency, and regulatory compliance.
• Administer zoning, land use, subdivision, and environmental regulations; provide recommendations on project issues, and assist applicants to ensure all requirements are met within established time frames.

The City of Belmont Public Works Department is recruiting for the position of Mechanic.

The City’s Mechanic position is responsible for maintaining, servicing, and repairing all City-owned vehicles and light and heavy equipment; troubleshooting and diagnosing vehicle malfunctions; performing preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; and performing a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.  The Mechanic receives general supervision from the Senior Mechanic.

The responsibilities and duties of the Mechanic may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Replace and/or repair any worn parts in vehicles, trucks, tractors, sweepers, rollers and other mechanical equipment including but not limited to spark plugs, brakes, master cylinders, wheel cylinders, wheel bearings, clutches and exhaust systems.
• Perform welding as required to repair equipment.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of time, work, parts, materials and outside service costs.
• Perform duties while utilizing a variety of hand tools and other equipment including brake tools, drill presses, grinding equipment, welders, cutting torches, lifts and related equipment; operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Estimate cost and time of procedures; prepare invoices.
• Maintain cleanliness in the shop area.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
