The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department seeks qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Camp Counselor (Recreation Leader) in the Parks and Recreation Department.   This position takes direction from the Camp Director and Camp Coordinator (Recreation Program Specialist) and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

INTERVIEWS:  In-person group interviews will occur on Monday, April 13 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm OR Wednesday, April 15 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm.  Please be prepared to attend one of these pre-set interview times.

MANDATORY TRAINING:  Must be available for paid training on Saturday, May 30, 2026

SUMMER CAMP SEASON:  Must be available for summer camp season June 1 - August 7, 2026

WORK HOURS:  Work hours vary depending on the number of staff and youth participants.  Approximate work hours are Monday through Friday 8:45 am to 4:00 pm and Extended Care from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

Incumbents of the position will provide their own transportation to program site(s). 

Essential Duties:

Camp Counselors (Recreation Leaders) are assigned to the summer day camp programs working with children ages 3 1/2 to 12 years old.  They assist, plan, organize and lead the physical, recreational and social activities of assigned recreation programs under direction of the Camp Director (Recreation Program Specialist) and the Recreation Coordinator.  

• Bring energy and enthusiasm to the camp environment every day.
• Safely and appropriately supervise campers at all times.
• Plan and lead arts, crafts, games and sports according to the theme of the week.
• Serve as a mentor and role model to campers by modeling positive behavior at all times.
• Use positive discipline with campers and communicate effectively with parents and guardians.
• Effectively collaborate with fellow camp staffers and Parks and Recreation Department staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Must have completed at least ninth (9) grade by the start of camp.  Coursework in recreation, sports, administration, human development, education or related field is preferred.  

Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable.  Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp.  There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training on the May 30, 2026 Training Day.

Special Requirements:    Appointments to this position are contingent upon:

• A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 6 part-time Assistant Pool Managers within the Recreation Department.  This position may require you to work various days, weekends or evenings.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under direction, assists in the overall operations of a swimming pool facility, and its assigned temporary employees; assists in the planning, organizing, coordination, development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of aquatic activities and programs for all ages.

The Assistant Pool Manager is the working lead class responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the pool and aquatics program. This class is distinguished from the next higher classification of Pool Manager in that the latter has overall responsibility for the pool operations, programs, and staff.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Receives direction from the Pool Manager. Exercises indirect supervision over temporary and seasonal aquatics personnel; may exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist in monitoring and supervision of the day-to-day operations of the aquatics program, which includes direction to lifeguards/instructors; enforce and explain pool regulations and policies; administer first aid and perform emergency rescues.
• Maintain proper health specifications, in restroom and locker areas and take all safety precautions.
• Manage the daily opening and closing of the facility.
• Assist in the oversight of proper sanitation and maintenance of pool water; ensure cleanliness of restrooms, dressing rooms, and public areas; report maintenance conditions affecting facility operation and security.
• Assist in the oversight of the safe and proper operations of assigned pool; ensure pool rules and safety guidelines are followed; maintain order with disruptive patrons and exercise crowd control where warranted; and refer escalated issues to assigned supervisor or proper authorities.
• Exercise lead/indirect supervision over all assigned staff including temporary and seasonal staff, independent contract instructors, and volunteers. Exercise direct supervision in the Pool Manager’s absence.
• Participate in the recruitment and hiring of temporary, part-time, or seasonal aquatics staff as required.
• Promote and enforce water safety procedures; effect swimming rescues; render first aid and CPR as required; ensure the safety of pool users and enforce all user rules and policies of the department.
• Complete, review, and file accident and incident reports; assist with follow-up related to reports; purchase, check, and maintain first aid equipment; perform daily safety checks and inspections of the facility and all equipment.
• Assist with employee schedules; complete reports on chemical tests; assist with the training of lifeguards and other aquatics staff; verify and check aquatics staff timecards; submit timecards to Pool Manager for approval; coordinate and facilitate staff meetings; assist with special events.
• Work with maintenance staff to ensure that pool facility maintenance procedures are followed.
• Keep the pool, pool deck, and auxiliary buildings/areas clean and free of litter and debris.
• Act as the Pool Manager in her/his absence.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position requires sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when reading correspondence, statistical data and using a computer. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. The incumbent may use cleaning chemicals, or pool chemicals, which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, hot and cold and is required to swim.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS
The following are a representative sample of the KSA’s necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Knowledge of: Modern principles and practices of aquatics programs; facilities, operations, and techniques used in aquatics programs; routine swimming pool maintenance, chlorinators, heaters, and other equipment used in a pool facility; current techniques in swim lesson instruction; basic pool chemistry, including chemicals used to disinfect water and maintain proper PH in a public pool; practices and principles of first aid and CPR lifesaving safety measures at a public pool; health and safety codes applicable to the operation of a public pool; principles and practices of customer service; modern office equipment, methods, and procedures; computer hardware and software; proper English, spelling, and grammar.

Ability to: Supervise and instruct individuals and groups in various aquatic and related recreational activities; plan and lead the work of volunteers, seasonal/part-time staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; interpret community demand for aquatic programs; successfully resolve a variety of customer service related matters; respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner; administer first aid and CPR; work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

The Department: 

The City of Santa Clara is looking to fill multiple As-Needed- Temporary Employee positions to support the Annual Cleanup Campaign. Successful incumbents will be assigned to work as ground crews shoving, sweeping, and lifting up to 50lbs of debris left by Santa Clara residents.

 

The Position: 

In this temporary employment opportunity, you will gain valuable experience working with the public and demonstrate teamwork amongst your peers as you become part of a dedicated crew.

 

A mandatory paid orientation is tentatively scheduled for April, 2026, where employees will receive training, safety boots, and the necessary equipment to perform the job. This position will work from 6:45am-4:15pm, 40-45 hours a week, Monday-Friday between April 27, 2026 - May 22, 2026. 

 

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders 

This recruitment is for spring, summer and fall events and activities beginning March 9th, such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues, Fourth of July, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, Halloween and other fun classes, activities, and events. Ideal candidates will be available to referee Monday through Thursday each week and/or to staff events on Friday evenings from June through August and occasional Saturdays. 

Pay: $16.90 - $17.90/ Hr.

The City of Sausalito is recruiting part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule

DEFINITION

Under general direction of the Director of Public Works, plans, directs and supervises all
functions of the Engineering Division and coordinates its activities with other divisions of
Public Works and other City departments; performs varied, difficult and complex
professional civil engineering work. Manages the Capital Improvement Program, private
development, permits, budgets, and Engineering staff. Manages the maintenance and
construction of City facilities and infrastructure. Performs other work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the work of the Engineering Division in the
preparation of designs, plans, specifications, estimates, and the inspection of a variety of
engineering projects, including streets, sidewalks, water distribution, traffic control
systems, sewer systems, drainage, buildings, parks and grounds; reviews development
and subdivision plans and specifications; updates the City’s Standard Specifications
periodically; supervises the writing of descriptions for easements and land acquisitions;
oversees all permits and inspections under Public Works-Engineering; makes difficult
technical decisions; promotes excellence, customer service and efficiency; prepares
technical reports and communicates effectively in writing and verbally; makes effective
presentations at public and group meetings; trains Engineering personnel to perform work according to recognized standards; prepares the budget for the Engineering Division; and applies modern methods and procedures to administrative and management functions including the use of automated or computerized engineering tools and information systems. Manages consultants and contractors to address complex issues. Prepares and oversees technical studies and reports required for capital improvement projects as well as private developments. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Engineering principles and practices applicable to municipal public
works, including the design, construction, and maintenance requirements of public works projects; use of construction materials; provisions of the Public Contract Code,
Subdivision Map Act, construction safety regulations and other State and Federal regulations related to public works; the use of computers and automated devices for
managing information and other engineering applications.

Ability to: Supervise, manage and perform difficult and complex professional
engineering assignments; plan, layout, coordinate, and control through subordinates the
work of engineering design, review and inspection; comprehend and prepare complex
technical reports; establish cooperative and effective working relationships with
subordinates, employees, City officials, the general public, and other agencies; develop
and manage the Engineering Division budget and Capital Improvement budget in

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

In addition to the general duties listed below, the following duties are also performed in the Golf Operations Division:  As a member of a crew, incumbents participate in the following crew activities, independently performing certain tasks as assigned.

• Operates various equipment involved in the maintenance of golf courses.
• Operates a light tractor with gang or sickle mower attachment, small roller or comparable attachment.
• Operates light equipment such as mowers, aerators, spray rigs, utility vehicles, backhoes, front-end loaders and dump trucks.
• Prunes small trees and shrubs
• Edges ground cover.
• Repairs irrigation, installs plant material, performs landscape construction duties.

General:

• Operates various equipment involved in the maintenance of street, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water distribution system, parks, street trees, or golf course.
• Operates equipment such as air compressors, pneumatic hammers, power activated hammers, chain saws, concrete saws, pipe cutters, sprayers, compactors, forklifts, painting and spraying equipment and rollers.
• Operates power tools such as air compressors, jack hammers, wet tapping machines and painting and spraying equipment;
• Loads, unloads and operates pick-ups and trucks to transport maintenance supplies and materials.
• Places traffic control flags, signs and cones to direct traffic around work sites; may direct traffic.
• Uses general carpentry and mechanical hand tools such as brooms, rakes, shovels, ladders, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, saws, drills and wrenches.
• Performs routine maintenance and repair of hand and power tools.
• Tactfully responds to questions and comments from the public.
• Responsible for the safe operation of equipment and tools used.
• May prepare and keep written records and make material and equipment requests.
• May perform some tasks regularly assigned to senior level classes, particularly on a training basis.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when operating assigned equipment. Acute hearing is required in both the field and the office. The ability to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 70 pounds, such as a jackhammer, is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions, including wet, heat, and cold. The incumbent may be exposed to fumes, dust chemicals, biohazard materials and air contaminants. The nature of the work may also require the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, work in confined spaces, drive motorized vehicles and work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

The base salary for this classification includes pay for potentially hazardous duties as listed in the essential job functions. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND

Two years of maintenance experience equivalent to the level of Maintenance Worker I.

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of: 

• The basic techniques, equipment and materials used in the maintenance of water systems, sewers and/or streets, as required by the program to which assigned.
• The safety procedures for operating equipment and power tools.
• The proper use and care of common hand tools.
• Work practices governing the maintenance and construction of municipal facilities such as streets, sewers, water lines, golf courses, and landscaped areas;
• Landscaped maintenance practices

Ability to: 

• Work effectively alone and as a member of a crew.
• Operate a dump truck or like mover vehicles requiring comparable skills.
• Operate pneumatic and power tools
• Locate utilities and understand Underground Service Alert (USA) procedures as required by the specific position.
• Safely perform heavy manual labor.
