THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

We are active in county-wide law enforcement efforts by participating in the San Mateo County Gang Task Force, Avoid the 23 (DUI) Task Force, Narcotic Task Force Details, Alcohol Beverage Control Operations, Office of Traffic Safety grants and as Police Academy Training Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.
• Respond to radio dispatched calls and reports to crime scenes or locations of disorder to protect life and property.
• Conduct investigations, gathers information and writes factual reports involving criminal activity, traffic accidents, suspicious activity, or other unusual incidents.
• Make arrests as necessary and writes report of all arrests made and activities performed.
• Interview and interrogate suspicious persons, suspects, and prisoners.
• Gather, mark, preserve, and record evidence in criminal or related matters; testify and present evidence in court.
• Serve warrants and subpoenas.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age on date of appointment, a US high school graduate (or GED equivalent), have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.  Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, read, comprehend, write, and speak English effectively.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

Police Officer

Education: Graduation from a U.S. High School or equivalent is required.  Additional education at the college level is preferred.

Licenses:  Possession of or the ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license by the time of hire, and ability to maintain the valid license.

Physical Requirement: Meet standards of adequate physical stature, endurance and agility. Vision: • 20/100 correctable to 20/30, with adequate depth perception and color vision. If soft contacts are worn, no limit on uncorrected distance visual acuity provided soft lenses have been worn for at least six months prior to the physical examination.

Background: • As part of the selection process, successful candidates will undergo a stringent background investigation which will include: confirming all information provided by the candidates, a polygraph test, fingerprinting, psychological and medical examinations, including a drug screening. Candidates may be disqualified at any point in this process. Felony Convictions: • State and Federal Law require that all Police Officers be free from felony conviction and domestic violence. SALARY:  Step A ($120,598.79) to Step E ($146,552.90) annually. Officers can earn up to an additional 27.5% above the base salary through qualifying incentives, such as specialty pay (5%), evening differential (5%), bilingual pay (5%), Master Officer pay (2.5%), and Master's degree incentive (10%). This results in potential annual compensation of approximately $153,763 at Step A to approximately $186,851 at Step E.

DESCRIPTION 

We are seeking a collaborative, service-oriented individual to conduct a variety of code compliance duties with competence and professionalism. DEPARTMENT

The Department of Housing (DOH) is in Belmont, California, and the Housing Authority of the County of San Mateo (HACSM) is a division within DOH. HACSM is 100% federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and, with an annual budget of over $150 million, administers various Tenant-Based Voucher, Project-Based Voucher, and Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) programs.  HACSM provides rental assistance to over 5,500 households, including people who are homeless, disabled, foster youth, and veterans. HACSM is one of the original 39 Moving To Work (MTW) agencies, creating activities such as landlord incentives and an affordable housing fund to assist with the costs of affordable housing development.

 

HACSM is a component unit of the County of San Mateo, but a separate entity that utilizes different case management and financial reporting systems from the County. HACSM has separate payroll and benefits from the County of San Mateo.  HACSM employees are not County employees.

The ideal candidate will have the skills and experience to successfully:

• Perform a variety of routine to moderately difficult administrative and clerical support duties for assigned housing programs.

• Provide administrative support to supervisory and program staff.

• Compose and prepare correspondence and distribute correspondence via email, regular mail, or DocuSign.

• Complete a high volume of data entry.

Retirement

All permanent HACSM employees are covered under two defined contribution plans: 

• A mandatory participation 403(b) plan that receives contributions from both the employer and employees. For Management employees in the 403(b) plan, the employer contributes 14 percent of salary per pay period. This amount represents the total payment due to the plan on behalf of the employees.

• A 457 Deferred Compensation plan in which employees participate on a voluntary basis. Employee contributions are governed by the 457 Plan description.

 

Paid Leave

• Employees accrue four vacation hours per biweekly pay period during the first five years of continuous service. The accrual rate increases every five years of continued service.  

• Employees accrue 3.7 sick leave hours per biweekly pay period. 

• 13 paid holidays/year. 

• Management employees accrue five (5) hours of administrative leave each pay period. No more than 260 hours of such administrative leave may be accumulated at any one time. On an annual basis, management employees can convert 50 percent of their current administrative leave balance for a cash payment.

• Inputs and retrieves data into various HACSM and/or state/federal software applications and database systems; maintains program and/or department-specific systems and databases.  

• Answers incoming telephone calls and e-mails; replies to voicemail and e-mail messages.

• Assembles and reviews data and information for various records and reports.

• Serves as a liaison to HACSM staff, program applicants and participants, stakeholders, and landlords; coordinates and schedules meetings and facilitates completion of required program forms, documents, and contracts.

• Observes and complies with all HACSM and mandated safety rules, regulations, and protocols.

CIVIC FELLOW PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The City of Woodland has established a paid summer fellow program for individuals early in their career seeking public service experience. This program invests in our local workforce and fosters a passion for careers in the public sector. During the eight (8)-week program, fellows will work on specified projects and participate in program-wide activities.

WOODLAND COMMUNITY COLLEGE HOST SITE
Woodland Community College is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-stie at WCC and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WCC staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

This posting is for the Community College Education Policy & Programs Coordinator within the Office of the President at Woodland Community College.

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Community College Education Policy and Programs Coordinator will support the implementation of Woodland Community College’s new Strategic Plan, with a focus on capacity building, student success, and socioeconomic mobility.

Housed within the Student Services Department, the Coordinator will advance strategic initiatives designed to strengthen student support systems, improve program coordination, and enhance outcomes for disproportionately impacted student populations.

The Fellow will work on a portfolio of projects and related events that may include:

• Analyzing student services data (retention, persistence, completion, utilization of support programs) to identify equity gaps and opportunities for improvement

• Research best practices related to student support programs (e.g., advising, basic needs, financial aid outreach, career services, transfer services)

• Supporting cross-departmental coordination efforts to align student services with strategic plan priorities

• Assisting in the design and implementation of new or redesigned initiatives that promote student success and socioeconomic mobility

• Supporting strategic plan events, stakeholder engagement efforts, and community partnerships

• Develop reports, presentations, training materials, and guides to support students

• Documenting processes and building tools to strengthen institutional capacity within Student Services

A key focus of the role will be translating strategic goals into actionable program improvements that enhance student access, persistence, completion, and post-college outcomes.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general directions from the designated WCC host-site employee.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in higher education policy, community college systems, and public service, with a clear commitment to advancing student success, equity, and socioeconomic mobility. They are motivated by mission-driven work and understand the transformative role community colleges play in expanding access and opportunity.

This individual brings strong analytical and organizational skills, with experience in research, professional writing, and synthesizing complex information. They are detail-oriented and capable of translating data, policy analysis, and strategic priorities into clear, actionable recommendations that inform decision-making and institutional improvement.

The Ideal Candidate is comfortable managing projects, timelines, and cross-functional collaboration across diverse stakeholder groups, including faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community partners. They communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats and can tailor messaging to varied audiences.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word are essential. The Ideal Candidate is highly organized, dependable, and capable of supporting multiple concurrent initiatives and related events in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

 

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS
The goals of the position are to:

1. Develop Applied Policy Analysis and Program Evaluation Expertise
Build practical skills in analyzing higher education policies and evaluating program effectiveness within a community college context. Contribute to assessment efforts by reviewing data, identifying performance gaps, and supporting evidence-based recommendations to strengthen student outcomes.

2. Gain Hands-On Experience in Strategic Plan Implementation within Student Services
Support the operationalization of institutional priorities by assisting with initiative tracking, performance measurement, and cross-department coordination. Develop a working understanding of how strategic goals are translated into measurable actions within Student Services.

3. Strengthen Institutional Capacity-Building Competencies
Enhance skills in cross-functional collaboration, systems thinking, and process improvement. Participate in efforts to streamline workflows, improve service delivery, and reinforce structures that support long-term institutional effectiveness.

4. Advance Equity-Focused Student Success Strategies
Contribute to the design, implementation, and evaluation of initiatives aimed at closing achievement gaps and improving access, retention, and completion for disproportionately impacted student populations. Develop an applied understanding of equity-centered program development in a public-serving institution.

5. Build Experience in Stakeholder Engagement and Institutional Communication
Support engagement efforts involving students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners. Gain experience in event coordination, briefing development, and institutional reporting to strengthen communication, transparency, and collaborative problem-solving.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of high school
• Local Woodland knowledge preferred
• Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail 
• Strong computer skills
• Ability to build and maintain trust-based relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders 
• Eligible to work in the United States
• Valid California driver license (if driving is an essential duty)

 

SALARY RANGE
$20.00 - $25.00 / hour dependent on experience.
