Position Description: 

The County of San Mateo is seeking a capable and multifaceted Assistant Director to assist the Director of the Family Justice Center with strategic planning, program development, and management of the County’s new Center.

Under the Leadership of the Family Justice Center Director, the County is working with community partners and stakeholders to develop a one-stop holistic service and support center for families and survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse. The mission of the Center is to support survivors and their families by creating a single destination to receive crucial services and support.

The San Mateo County Family Justice Center is a County-run multi-agency, multi-disciplinary service center where both public and private partner agencies assign staff on a full-time or part-time basis to provide services from one location. The Center’s focus will be on reducing the number of times survivors tell their story, reducing the number of places they must go for help, and through active collaboration with community-based organizations, increasing the quality of services and support they receive.

This is an opportunity for a committed public servant with extensive program management experience to successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges in developing and building new programs, collaborations, and a space that achieves the County’s goal of providing comprehensive, wrap-around services to victims of violence. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in carrying out the vision and goals by working alongside the Director.

Examples Of Duties

As the Assistant Director, you will have the opportunity to:

· Participate in the planning process to establish the Center which is modeled after successful Family Justice Centers across the country.

· Join in the effort to establish interagency collaborations.

· Engage with survivors to gather input and feedback that will inform the development and operation of the Family Justice Center, ensuring that their experiences and needs shape the center’s services and policies.

· Assist in facilitating focus groups and conducting best practice research as needed.

· Consult with County and external subject matter experts on relevant program issues.

· Participate in securing contracts with outside vendors, consultants, or organizations.

· Provide oversight for the program budget that ensures the accomplishment of program and service objectives within budget restrictions.

· Prepare detailed written reports, policies, procedures, and contracts.

· Assist in completion of phase one of the Family Justice Center

Requirements: 

This project requires extensive research, careful planning, and successful collaborations. As such, the selected Assistant Director will need the following competencies:

· Effective Communication – Possesses the interpersonal skills needed to build relationships with interagency partners, the County Board of Supervisors, other County departments, and community-based organizations.

· Planning and Organizing – Ability to facilitate effective courses of action to ensure that work is completed efficiently.

· Problem Analysis and Problem Solving – Uses sound and logical judgment to spot and analyze problems, develop alternative solutions, and initiate corrective action.

· Emotional Intelligence – Perceives, understands, and manages personal emotions and the emotions of others during interpersonal interactions.

· Collaboration – Works with others toward an agreement and negotiates to find mutually acceptable solutions. Effectively gains consensus between differing parties in sensitive situations.

In addition to possessing the above-listed competencies, any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

· A minimum of five years of increasing responsible experience in the areas of project management, victim assistance program management, program development, or management of non-profit or community-based organizations.

DEFINITION 

As a Building Attendant, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the Burlingame Community Center, ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all occupants. This role requires a hands-on individual with excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.

Hours: (Average 10-20 hours per week). Hours depend on rentals and special events. Shifts may include, but are not limited too:

Monday-Thursday: 2:30pm-9:15pm

Friday: 2:30pm-5:30pm
Saturday/Sunday: 7:30am-1:15pm
Saturday/Sunday: 12:45pm-5:30pm
As needed: Private rentals as late as 2:00am. Shifts will vary week to week. There is no set schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)
Opens and closes the building, provides excellent customer service, and maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Performs regular cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning windows and mirrors, restocking and sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash and recycling, and wiping down surfaces. Assists with event and class setup and takedown of tables, chairs, and equipment, operates audiovisual equipment, and ensures renters follow facility policies, completing final walk-through reports as needed. Staffs the front desk to greet visitors, answer questions, answer phones, take messages, and process registrations and sales.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILLS:  
Knowledge of: Operation of a community center; department rules and policies; availability of current classes; basic mathematical functions; janitorial work (including but not limited to: glass and wall cleaning, dusting, trash pickup, restroom clean up, emptying of trash cans, cleaning of kitchen, etc.).

Ability to: Work independently, learn quickly, perform heavy manual labor; work extremely well with others, including customers, staff, contractors, and volunteers; explain policies and procedures clearly and concisely; read and understand English;

Skills: Ability to use office equipment including copy machine, calculator and personal computer, and keyboarding skills.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)
Education and/or Experience:
Sufficient experience and education to perform the above duties, which is typically obtained through sufficient maturity to perform these duties in a trustworthy manner.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Perform heavy manual labor, including bending and stooping; ability to explain recreation programs and policies with tact; calmly deal with difficult people and with people of different cultures.  Minor analysis of situations and adopting effective courses of action.

Benefits

Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act of 2014 Paid Sick Leave Benefit. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 24 hours per year. There is no cash value associated with benefit.

Vacation Pay. This benefit is for part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within a year from the beginning of employment with the City of Burlingame, and accrues at the rate of one hour for every 52 hours worked to a maximum benefit of 16 hours per year.  No employee shall be allowed to have an accumulation of more than two years’ worth of vacation accrual to their credit at any one time.

No other benefits are offered. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time.

Analyst: Chet Overstreet (01232026) (Department of Emergency Management Coordinator - Q002)

Description 

Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment is responsible to act as a liaison to the Department’s flourishing enrichment (after school) program and ensure the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. This includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs Supervised Play at Old Mill Elementary School and Center of Play at the Mill Valley Community Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, independent contractors, and part-time staff, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community. The Recreation Specialist- Enrichment will assist other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in elementary aged programs, ideally in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in delivering kindergarten, elementary and/or youth programming, etc. is preferred.

NOTE: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position for the Mill Valley Arts and Recreation Department.  

DEFINITION: Communicate with participants, families, instructors, staff and elementary school sites to coordinate class schedules, registrations, and program needs for the TK-5th grade After School Enrichment programs. Hours are approximately Monday-Friday, 12:30pm-5:30pm. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

• Facilitates recreation activities for specific age group: Transitional Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 

• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs and activities. 

• Processes program payments promptly and thoroughly. 

• Programs enrichment classes for each season (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).  

• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget. 

• Works with local School District, PTAs, and community groups in developing, promoting, and providing programs and activities.

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively and professionally with schools, staff, parents, and children.

• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on program effectiveness. 

• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes. 

• Creation and development of new programs, as needed. 

• Accurately maintain attendance records. 

• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably. 

• Perform related duties as required. 

• Must be able to lift 50lbs.  

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population.
