Definition

Under direction of the City Manager, the Finance Director is charged with the responsibility of establishing and maintaining an accounting and financial system for the City of Live Oak in accordance with various legal requirements and generally accepted government accounting practices.

 

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Assume full management responsibility for all Finance Department Services and activities including general accounting functions, investment portfolio,  fiscal reporting, treasury, cash and debt management, utility billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, citations, business licensing, collections, taxes, internal accounting controls, external audit coordination, annual budget preparation, presentation, analysis, and update, any and all other related financial matters as they occur; recommend and administer policies and procedures; administer the day-to-day activities of the City’s insurance programs including health, liability, workers compensation, life, and casualty insurance. Manage the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, and priorities for each assigned service area; direct, supervise, train, and evaluate department employees; recommend and administer policies and procedures; assume responsibility for the City’s budget process; analyze expenditures and revenues for budgetary purposes; prepare the annual budget documents for submittal to the City Manger and City Council. Represents the department to outside groups and organizations; participates in outside community and professional groups and committees; provides technical assistance as needed. THE POSITION

The City of San Rafael is seeking a motivated, civic and safety-minded Communications and Engagement Intern to support equitable outreach and engagement through the Fire Department's external communications, digital content, and public engagement initiatives. This temporary, part-time role is ideal for individuals interested in learning more about local government and public communications.

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of Emergency Management, the intern will assist with day-to-day communications tasks such as social media content creation, newsletter writing, website updates, and public information campaigns.  This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to real-time public service storytelling and information sharing.  This is a part-time/temporary position, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) that receives no City benefits.  This position will work for up to 30 hours per week (days/hours may vary). 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Assist in designing, writing, and editing content for a variety of communications platforms including websites, social media, e-newsletters, flyers, presentations, and press materials.
• Help document Department programs and events through photography, videography, and brief interviews.
• Support the development and scheduling of social media content across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Nextdoor.
• Help maintain and update the Department's website and digital newsletters.
• Contribute to internal content calendars and project trackers.
• Participate in community outreach efforts, including tabling at events, supporting public meetings, and gathering community feedback.
• Track analytics and metrics from newsletters, social media platforms, and web traffic; monitor media coverage and social media engagement; compile analytics reports to inform communication strategies.
• Support translation coordination and multilingual content production, if bilingual (Spanish-English) skills are present.  

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious about public service, a strong communicator, and excited to learn in a hands-on environment.  They are a self-starter who can write clearly and adapt to a range of topics and formats.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

• Basic principles and practices of public communications, social media management, and/or media relations.
• Writing and editing for clarity, style, and grammar.
• Social media platforms, email marketing tools, and content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Mailchimp).
• Basic graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) and video editing platforms (preferred).
• Cultural competency and sensitivity in engaging diverse communities.
• Highly preferred:  fluent, professional-level Spanish and English (both written and spoken).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED

• Fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal) is highly desired.
• At least 1 year of experience in communications, public-engagement, media, or related work (internships included).
• OR currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree or certificate program in communications, journalism, graphic design, public relations, public administration, or a related field.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, and social media platforms.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

• This is a hybrid, temporary position limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30.
• Part-time up to 30 hours per week.  Flexible scheduling is available, with occasional evening or weekend hours required for community events.

Selection Process

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for an individual to serve as a Clinical Therapist I/II for the Adult Full-Service Partnership (FSP). • Operates light power driven, hand held and "walk behind" equipment and uses shovels, rakes, other hand tools, jackhammers, dump trucks in the performance of assigned duties.
• Performs manual and semiskilled work in flushing, clearing, maintaining sewer and storm drainage, pipelines, culverts, force mains, and pumping stations.
• Performs or assists in starts, stops, inspects, lubricates and adjusts pumps, valves, motors, drive shafts,  universal joints and flow rates at pumping stations.

• Assists in notifying residents of sewer system work which may affect their lines, and cooperates with other agencies on repairs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skill, and ability outlined in the job description is:

Level I:

• Sufficient formal and/or informal education to provide the necessary reading and communication skills; AND
• Some prior experience in street maintenance work that would include mechanical and hydraulic repair of pumps, gates, valves, pipelines and related.

Level II:

• Equivalent to graduation from high school.
• Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the operations and maintenance of Public Works sewage pumping stations and gravity sewer lines, equivalent to the Sewer Maintenance Worker I classification at the City of San Rafael.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Within one year of hire as a Sewer Maintenance Worker I, must possess a valid California Driver's License with a tank endorsement to drive the vactor in a training capacity.
• Level II:  Must possess a valid California Class "B" license and have a satisfactory driving record
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work underground, in confined places, in and near bacterially contaminated liquids, and in exposure to unpleasant and potentially hazardous conditions. 
• Level I and Level II:  Must be willing to work overtime and on call as needed for emergency repairs.

ABOUT THE POSITION

There are multiple positions full-time (38-hours per week) and part-time (20-hours per week). The current vacancies are at our family-friendly Redwood Shores Branch Library performing a wide variety of customer service and technical library work, providing services for children, adults, and families. The incumbent may also be assigned to work at other Redwood City Public Library locations. This position requires work during the day, evenings and weekend rotation (both Saturday and Sunday) and these are onsite/in-person positions. We may use the eligibility list created from this recruitment process to fill any part-time or full-time positions that occur in other Redwood City Public Library locations, during the life of the eligibility list.

Typical tasks include, but are not limited to:

• Primarily provide customer service in the following capacities (but not limited to):  
  • Provide customer service experience that strives for the highest level of satisfaction.
  • Assist the public with technology.
  • Answer routine in-person and telephone directional and informational questions; refer more difficult or technical questions to appropriate library staff.
  • Assist customers in locating library materials and information.
  • Register new customers; collect fees and overdue fines.
  • Check in and prepare materials for return to the library collection.
  • Assist library customers with checking out and checking in library materials.
• Repair library materials.
• Compile data and prepare summary activity reports. 
• Follow opening and closing procedures of the assigned library. 
• Input into library database information such as bibliographic and customer records.
• Assist in the processing of new library materials; process and discard old and worn library materials. Prepare routine reports, special reports and surveys.
• Retrieve and shelve books and other materials.
• Perform routine clerical assignments, including typing and answering telephones.
• Assign routine tasks and provide instructions to Library Aides in area of responsibility.
• Assist in ordering and receiving library materials and supplies.
• Receive, sort and distribute incoming and intradepartmental mail.
• May prepare and maintain displays and exhibits.
• Assist with library programs, special events, and outreach.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
