Maintenance Worker I

This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic maintenance experience learn City infrastructure, systems, grounds, parks, facilities, use of tools and equipment, and a wide variety of practices and procedures. Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required of the positions at the II level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Maintenance Worker II

This is the journey-level class in the Maintenance Worker series responsible for performing the full range of duties required to ensure that City infrastructure, grounds, parks, and facilities to which assigned, are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of assigned areas. Positions at this level are distinguished from the level I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the Senior Maintenance Worker in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower-level maintenance staff and performs the most complex duties assigned to the series.

The Position:

The City of Santa Clara is seeking an experienced, energetic, and collaborative leader to serve as its next Senior Inspector supporting the daily operations of the Building Division. The Senior Inspector is a supervisory-level classification responsible for performing the most complex building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical inspections, while also providing guidance, coordination, and training for less experienced inspectors and support staff. Desirable Qualifications

• Depending on position assignment, the required experience and certification may be required in a particular specialty such as building inspection, electrical inspection, or plumbing and mechanical inspection.
• MEP plan review experience.  
• Certified Access Specialist (CASp) certification.
• Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience that includes supervising building inspectors.

Licenses/Certificates
 The following are required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment:

• A valid California Class C driver's license.
• Certification as a Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, or Combination Inspector by the International Code Council (ICC) or International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), or equivalent.

DEFINITION

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Responds and assumes command at emergencies and coordinates on-scene activities.
• Prepares reports on fire service issues and recommends courses of action after considering alternatives.
• Plans, reviews, and supervises Division assigned activities involving fire operations, training, special operations, technical services, administration, emergency medical services, emergency planning & disaster preparedness and other assignments as designated.

Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets.

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignments, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is a utility enterprise that provides planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the City's water distribution system, sewer collection system, and recycled water system. The Position: 

This is the entry level maintenance position for the Water and Sewer Utility. Typically, you will be assigned to a crew, and will perform semi-skilled work on water or sewer infrastructure. This position will require odd hours and sometimes extended days if jobs run long. You will come in contact with raw sewage, working in knee deep mud, and working around trenches, often on busy city streets.
  
 Under direction, this position operates, maintains, inspects, repairs, and rehabilitates or replaces the water, sanitary sewer, and/or recycled water systems of the City of Santa Clara. This position performs heavy physical labor while performing planned maintenance and repair or emergency response for the City's utility systems and the associated appurtenances.
  
 This position requires one (1) year of related experience. Related experience may include job duties such as pipefitting, plumbing, commercial or residential construction, underground construction, landscaping, paving, steelworker, HVAC, paving, and heavy equipment operations.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City. Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy training program and Field Training Orientation (FTO/Apprentice), incumbents of this non-sworn classification may be appointed to the sworn classification of Firefighter/Engineer and serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
• Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) OR a valid Paramedic license prior to appointment.
• Proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) dated within 12 months prior to appointment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/ Engineer.

Experience:

• One year of Biological Nutrient Removal Treatment Processing is desirable.      

License or Certificate:

• Possession of a State of California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade V certificate is highly desirable.

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population. This position oversees a broad range of senior services, including recreation programming, wellness initiatives, social services coordination, special events, facility operations, partnerships, and community outreach, while helping ensure the City’s brand new 45,000 square foot senior center continues to be a welcoming, active, inclusive, and responsive community space.

This role provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of senior services programs and facilities, including staff supervision, budget administration, program development, strategic planning, contract management, and customer service delivery. The Manager works collaboratively across City departments and with community organizations, regional agencies, volunteers, and service providers to support programs and services that enhance quality of life, social connection, health, and lifelong learning opportunities for older adults.

The Manager also serves as a key liaison to community stakeholders and the Senior Affairs commission, helps guide long-range planning efforts related to aging services and ensures programs and services reflect the evolving needs of Redwood City’s diverse senior community. Responsibilities include overseeing operational logistics, evaluating program effectiveness, supporting staff development, and maintaining strong partnerships that advance the City’s commitment to accessible and high-quality community services.
