THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for up to three (3) interns who will assist on various municipal projects. Positions are considered for several fields of interest, including, but not limited to, the following examples:

• Capital Improvement Program (CIP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in capital improvement projects, design of civil infrastructure, and construction delivery procedures. Assist with project standards, standard specifications and drawings, CAD drafting, plan review, construction cost estimates, data collection and analysis.
• Traffic Engineering – Civil engineering majors with an interest in parking, transportation, and traffic engineering. Assist with creating parking zone signage, mapping, program evaluations, document organization and filing, field data collection and analysis, traffic studies, and plan reviews.
• Clean Water Program (CWP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in water resources, sanitary sewer rehabilitation, design, construction. Assist with project standards, standard specifications, plan review, construction cost estimates, data collection and analysis, and construction site visits.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• BA/BS Candidate or MA/MS Candidate in civil engineering or related field as described above is highly desirable
• Strong analytical, writing, research, and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
• Valid California Driver’s License (Class C)

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and web-based resources
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate workload
• Ability to work independently and within teams
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments

DUTIES:

The primary duties will depend on the intern’s assigned position and associated field of interest and may include the following:

• • Assisting engineering project managers with administrative or technical tasks
  • Drafting engineering plans/standards in AutoCAD
  • Creating map displays using Google Earth or GIS
  • Gathering, compiling, and presenting data for engineering and construction projects
  • Organizing and tracking inspection reports, testing results, invoices, and other construction documentation
  • Conducting field assessments of the condition of streets, drainage/collection systems, and other infrastructure
  • Investigating and proposing responses to questions or inquiries from residents
  • Assist in other areas such as procurement, communication, public outreach, and public surveys.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon availability and workload.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, occasionally move about inside the office to access supplies and office machinery, frequently communicate and exchange information, review handwritten, electronic and facsimile documents, and operate a computer and other office productivity machinery. The employee must occasionally move items weighing up to 20 pounds inside the office. MRCA offices are spread among multiple buildings and floors and may require traveling up/down steps.

The position will work out of the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens but may occasionally be required to travel to various other locations. ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting for part-time Recreation Leaders II/III assigned to the Adaptive Program. The main goal of the City of Gilroy’s Recreation Division is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents. 
 
Under direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader II/III will assist, plan, organize, and lead the physical, recreational, and social activities of assigned recreation programs. Program area focus is Adaptive (Special Needs), but you might be asked to support another recreation area.

 When assigned to the Adaptive Program, the leader will have an opportunity to have hands-on experience working with a special needs population.  Disabilities of participants vary in range from non-communicative to diminished motor skills to severe autism.  The position will report to an experienced staff member.  As related experience is gained as noted in the job qualifications and requirements, and with the recommendation in the employee’s performance evaluation, Recreation Leaders can advance from Recreation Leader II to Recreation Leader III.  As the employee advances through the job series the employee will take on more responsibility and more challenging work assignments.

San Mateo County Health's Aging and Adult Services Division is seeking qualified individuals for the position of In-Home Supportive Services Social Worker II/III. Social Workers provide a wide variety of welfare services in such areas as information and referral, protective services, out-of-home services, health related services, chore services, and other welfare services within the Health and the Human Services Agency.
 
The current vacancy is in the In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program that provides in-home care for persons who cannot safely remain in their own home without such assistance. The recipients of IHSS are aged, blind and/or disabled and eligible for Medi-Cal. Disabled and/or blind minor children may also be eligible for IHSS. The Social Worker will make a home visit to determine eligibility for the program and to conduct an assessment to determine a range of service hours for particular tasks. The IHSS recipient or guardian is the IHSS employer and is responsible for hiring and supervising a provider for the care they receive.  The Social Worker will travel throughout the County to conduct home visits, attend meetings and perform other duties of the position.  The Social Worker will work in the San Mateo, CA Aging and Adult Services Office.
 
This IHSS Social Worker will conduct intake and/or on-going activities for IHSS recipients. Some of those activities include:
 

• Conduct initial IHSS assessments using a detailed State assessment tool.
• Complete necessary documents, paperwork, and work within different information technology systems.
• Conduct annual reassessments.
• Educate, support, and perform administrative duties for IHSS recipients and care providers to understand/comply with program regulations.
• Provide education, outreach, and community resources information.
• Participate in quality improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with quality assurance and program integrity to ensure proper adherence to regulations.
• Prepare for and attend Fair Hearings.

SALARY
Social Worker II:   $6,564.13 - $8,205.60/month
Social Worker III:  $7,741.07 - $9,673.73/month

Social Workers provide highly skilled, intensive casework services to individuals and their families and provide casework consultation within the department and to outside agencies.  Incumbents of positions at this level work with minimal supervision and are expected to have acquired the high degree of assessment skills required to perform care coordination and referral tasks in complex casework areas. Lead supervisory responsibilities may be assigned as circumstances dictate.

This classification is distinguished from other marketing and communications classifications by the assigned project management responsibilities leading District-wide, market research projects and studies of considerable size and complexity. Prepares, reviews, and maintains a variety of project-related information and documentation, including project schedules, Statements of Work (SOWs), status reports, detailing issues, risks, and deliverables; monitors agreements and projects for compliance with relevant codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
Attends and participates in professional group meetings and committees; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of project management and market research. Provides technical and functional direction to professional, technical, and contract staff and participates in the formation, planning, review, and management of assigned projects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a field directly related to the area to which assigned. For the Market Research Project Manager position the following are applicable fields of study: business administration, sociology, statistics, market research, communications, public administration, marketing, or a related field. Additional experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in the professional field required by the assigned special projects. The Market Research Project Manager position requires experience in developing and implementing market research, marketing, public information, or communications programs with an emphasis on data collection, market analysis, and detailing the customer journey or two (2) years that involved responsibilities at a level equivalent to the District's classification of Project Manager I. Years of experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a two for one basis; two (2) years of experience may be submitted for one (1) year of education).

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) currently provides over 700 Megawatts of power to residential and business customers within Santa Clara, of which 40 percent of comes from carbon-free renewable resources. The Position: 

The Generation Technician performs the hands-on duties required to safely and efficiently operate and maintain the SVP Generation resources.  Under direction from the on-shift Sr. Generation Technician, the Generation Technician performs all manner of mechanical, electrical, and operational activities required for the City’s power generation facilities including:

 

• Controlling City power plants and monitoring remote hydroelectric facilities
• Responding to emergency situations and abnormal operations
• Repairing mechanical pumps, valves, compressors, boilers, HRSG auxiliaries, reduction gears, hydraulic systems, liquid and gas fuel systems, lube oil systems
• Repairing electrical systems, breakers, relays, meters, wiring, and motors
• Organizing and supervising contractors and employees in conducting scheduled and emergency shutdown work

 

Incumbents ensure that for all of the City of Santa Clara’s electric generation power plants that all of the systems and sub-systems are operated and maintained in an efficient, effective, and a safe manner. License/Certifications:

Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
 Possession of the following certificates are required within one year of appointment for the duration of the appointment:

• Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Operator for Natural Gas Pipeline;
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Qualified Operator for Natural Gas Compressor Station;

Substitution:

Education Substitution: Additional qualifying full-time work experience (2000 hours equal one year) as described above may substitute up to two (2) years of the required education. One (1) year of work experience equals to 30 semester units or 45 quarter units.

San Mateo County Health is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Public Health Clinics Strategic Projects Manager. This management position will report to the Public Health Clinics Manager, overseeing Edison Clinics and Mobile Clinics and will have broad project management responsibility for key strategic efforts affecting the Public Health clinics.
