JOB DUTIES

• Formulates and recommends policies, regulations and practices for carrying out the program; administers personnel rules; coordinates the various phases of implementation for policies, practices, ordinances and resolutions.

Under immediate supervision, the Assistant Planner evaluates projects to ensure compliance with local policies and regulations as well as California planning laws and provides information to the public. This position provides a high level of service to a variety of clients and stakeholders, including professionals in architecture, engineering, and construction, as well as individual property owners. The Current Planning Division is a collaborative, team-oriented environment that coordinates with other County divisions and departments, as well as other agencies and districts.

THE POSITION
The Deputy Director of the Public Works Agency plays a critical leadership role overseeing the Roads and Engineering Divisions. This position is responsible for the planning, execution, and oversight of major infrastructure projects, public works programs, and disaster recovery initiatives. Working under the general direction of the Agency Director, the Deputy Director provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and interdepartmental coordination to ensure efficient service delivery, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. The role also serves as Acting Director in the Director’s absence and represents the agency in meetings with officials, stakeholders, and the public. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week. This recruitment may be used to establish a list to fill future vacancies for the next six (6) months.

• Oversees the preparation of solicitation documents for construction projects, manages the bid process including pre-bid conferences and site walk-throughs, responds to bidder inquiries, and administers construction contracts, including budgeting and assisting with regulatory permitting.
• Supervises consultant contracts for public works services, monitors project performance, and ensures departmental processes comply with contract provisions and standards.
•  Coordinates with consultants, staff engineers, and other stakeholders to guide the preparation of plans and specifications for public works projects
•  Identifies alternative funding sources, coordinates grant and loan applications, secures funding, monitors expenditures, and tracks project outcomes.

The City of Foster City is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Building Inspector who is knowledgeable of Building codes and local ordinances to join the Building Division of our Community Development Department. The Department consists of Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement Divisions and is headed by Community Development Director. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Graduation from high school or the equivalent. A desired course of additional education would include two (2) years of college course work in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Inspection, or completion of an Apprenticeship Program in a building construction related field.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience including a minimum of two (2) years of full-time plan check experience and two (2) years of progressively increasing responsibility in a variety of municipal building inspection work. Each year of college education in building construction, engineering, drafting, architecture or related courses may substitute for a year of experience.

Licenses, Certificates, Registration

• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License may be required at the time of appointment. For positions where the ability to drive is not an essential function, the employee must be able to arrange reliable and timely transportation through private or public transportation for attendance at off-site meetings, events, and trainings.
• Possession of the International Code Council (I.C.C.) Full Combination Building Inspector Certificate is required at the time of appointment.
• Incumbents must acquire an ICC Plans Examiner Certificate within one year of hiring.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. The City of Dixon is opening a great opportunity for those curious to learn about the ins and outs of police work for the position of Police Cadet in the Police Department. Under the supervision of veteran Police Officer's the cadet experiences what it takes to develop important cadet skills. Examples: cadet patrol, traffic control, attending meetings, delivery of witness subpoenas, report taking, provide assistance to the various bureaus within the department, directing phone calls to the appropriate personnel, learns how to interact with the community during all kinds of problem-solving situations.

This is an entry-level, volunteer position intended as an educational and career development internship. In addition to serving a support role within the Police Department, this classification is exposed to a wide variety of law enforcement duties and will gain experience in the work place.

A Cadet volunteers a minimum of 8 hours per month and work is conducted both in a police station and in the field. Work involves irregular, often non-scheduled, hours during the day and evenings, and on the weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

THE POSITION:

This entry-level position is in our Operational Asset Management Team, where you will perform engineering and data analysis assignments that support the planning, maintenance, and rehabilitation of pipeline, pump station, and treatment plant assets. • Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and District engineering policies and procedures.
• Conduct engineering research projects, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and prepare effective technical reports.

Training:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a field related to assigned functional area(s).

OR

Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional engineering experience.

License or Certificate:

State of California as a Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license. Individuals who do not meet the driver's license requirement due to a disability will be considered for reasonable accommodation on a case-by-case basis.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite, after completion of the probationary period (up to one year).
